This is a great tutorial. I really like the fact that in this particular we are aiming for basic shadows, highlights, etc in order to add character and depth, not necessarily “realism.” It is as if G is saying shadows exist, let’s play with them. I look forward to a more detailed tutorial on shadows, highlights, reflected light etc. that builds in this one. Thanks so much.

Hey Genevieve, firstly, a HUGE thank you for making these videos and also making my life easier. I'm a beginner character designer too, and I was stressful about digitally painting skin tones. I was legit wandering all over KZbin to find a proper answer for all of my question and today, finally, I found 'em, all thanks to you. So, I just have a small request. I watched your video 'How to draw a Face (Portrait)' and saw you having different color palettes for skin, hair and eyes. So, could you please give us the color codes of the colors in each of those palettes, if you can? It would be really helpful cause sometimes, I kinda feel if I'm selecting a wrong one for my base... Hi! I’m so glad you found some answers to your question in this video 🤍 The color palettes are part of my portrait bundle (www.genevievesdesignstudio.com/ultimate-portrait-bundle). That being said, you can fairly easily create your own by using reference pictures 😊

You haven’t really told us anything concrete about the base colours for darker skin tones 😭

Same as with any other base color ! Start with picking something that feels roughly ok, then adjust it as you go with hue/saturation/brightness 😊 Picking base colors really doesn't need to be complicated: they change so much as we start layering on top of them anyway!
