I vividly remember that scheme and all its incredible (especially at the time) conversions. Actually, I remember flipping through the Space Wolves codex of the time and that it contributed immensely to my awe of 40k and the striking, high-contrast 'Eavy Metal paint job of the mid-late 90s. Thanks for the nostalgia trip!

Like the result, been looking at various space wolf painting videos and this really does look good, im starting a space wolf army (got the storm claw boxset, my son has pinched the orks, but got the space wolves left, so bought the horus heresy mk6 marines and a horus heresy tank, as theyre a homage to the old rogue trader plastic boxsets i had as a kid, so doing them as space wolves to go with the ones i have) so this has given some inspiration as to how to paint them.

Great video! I am working on my first Space Wolf army and basically following this guide exactly! Question though, I got the Vallejo Poly. Gloss, and it seems a bit thick.. Can I use normal Airbrush thinner with the gloss varnish, or should I use something else to thing it? Water?

Awesome work - I have some SW that have been undercoated with Russ Grey, what would you suggest to start airbrushing from there with?
@robsonez2 жыл бұрын
Black. Redo the primer and paint them a different colour. Don't use the horrific space wolf grey colours.
@Sir_Gonzo4 жыл бұрын
After you airbrushed the shoulder colours, how did you paint in the grey trim? Did you mask the yellow and red, or brush paint in the trim? Thanks. Love the videos. I'm a new wolves painter and really like your tutorial.
@cultofpaint4 жыл бұрын
Brush painted. Followed the same steps, just with a hairy brush. So basecoated Russ, then highlight fenrisian, then highlight fenrisian/ulthuan. If you do it the same time you are edge highlighting the rest of the model it isnt too bad.

How much should you thin the paint down if you use the citadel air versions?
@cultofpaint3 жыл бұрын
There isn't really a golden ratio. I'd suggest starting 50/50 and then adjust from there to where you are getting the desired effect in a couple coats.

I don't want to sound nit-picky because this is a beautiful model and far beyond anything I can do... but the decal you applied to the right shoulder is a Long Fangs symbol and this of course is a Blood Claw.
@cultofpaint4 жыл бұрын
That's ok, these recipe videos are much more about how to create the colours, there's probably "accuracy" mistakes in most of them. Then people can go away and create as accurate representations of the fluff as they want. Or just paint something that looks cool to them.
@noahward94454 жыл бұрын
Is the yellow dag on the red shoulder part of the decal you applied or did you paint that on? It just suddenly appeared when you jumped forward.

Is the gloss varnish necessary when you're doing a pin wash?
@stevefredericks16453 жыл бұрын
Yes (from their other videos) the polyurethane gloss varnish reduces surface tension to enable the oil paint pin wash to flow as described.

The light powder blue is horrorific and should never be repeated. The same as yellow included anywhere within the space wolves iconography.
