I am a beginner still struggling with basics and have not yet tried en plein air. I’m not convinced I could do that under the best of conditions and to see your results while contending with sun and wind seems absolutely amazing. I’m also amazed that you had the courage and confidence to wear a white shirt and did not get even a speck of paint on it! Thanks so much for doing these videos and for writing your books, both of which have been very helpful and encouraging.

@Logit42 жыл бұрын
Your book is excellent. You do correctly emphasize that art requires a lot of work. The most important part of this work is having an exact picture in your mind of the finished painting before you pick up the brush. Making a sketch is a good start but making a good drawing is very difficult if you do not already have a clear finished picture in your mind. Sketching will only help clarifying some crucial detail. This is why art is so difficult. It requires forward thinking, a skill that very few people have and that can not be faked in watercolor.

Great video Andrew, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. I'm guessing that paper will directly into a frame under a mat without any cutting, if it's a stock size. One drawback I have with this is the cost of framing the work. I like watercolor outdoors rather than oil for plein air work, it's much more convenient. So, I'm working on showing my work, just need to get it all framed. Thanks again!

Jonathan, no, there are so many oil painters on KZbin. Don’t ask that one of our best and few watercolor painters go to oil. Try Ian Robert’s channel. I’ve often wished he would do watercolor but I try to learn around what he teaches in oil and apply what I can to watercolor.

Greetings from Canada. Thank you for the useful tips. The parasol is a great idea. You mentioned using 200 lb paper. What is the advantage of using this thickness over 140 lb? Is it because it absorbs more moisture? I could guess it might be useful when painting under humid conditions. As always, I enjoy watching your videos and learning from them.

Yes, you are right, 200 lb paper does absorb little more moisture, but it isn’t that significant compared to 140 lb paper.
