Do this instead: 1) Establish a bluetooth connection between your phone and the speaker. 2) Download and open the Roku app on your phone. 3) Choose the 'Remote' option (on the bottom row) 4) Click the 'headphones' icon, and voila! Audio from your Roku TV on your non-Roku bluetooth speaker.

For anyone curious, the step they left out is in order to use Bluetooth devices you must first get a Roku speaker. I'm not sure myself as to why this is. Perhaps the Roku speaker adds the Bluetooth support.

Save everyone a lot of time, only Bluetooth it can handle is it's proprietary Roku speakers. This isn't because of any shortcoming on the Bluetooth capabilities of the TV device, Roku just wants to lock you into their universe and are willing to use anticonsumer methods to get there. Not cool Roku, probably won't be getting another tv from them after this one. Not worth buying their products when the customer is not their priority

Just a heads up if your speaker has a port for an aux cord, and you wanna use the speaker for Xbox or something just plug the aux cord into the speaker and controller and that will work. you’ll need to turn the actual tv volume down though. (I’m pretty sure you can use any speaker that has the aux port, I have a JBL flip 4 and it worked)

If my wife can’t figure it out, it’s not easy. If I can’t figure out, it’s ridiculous. TBH, it’s ridiculously hard. Being an engineer with years of experience in machine design and programming , I hate this type of design that forces me to search online to find a hidden setting instead of finding it intuitively by myself. It’s a failure as a consumer product.

I am stuck with analogue direct wired speakers. In my town we have RF interference with a local radio "station" that brings it's radio broadcasts sounding off in wireless speakers! I hate it but I have to find wired sets with analogue imputs, and that is getting hard these days. It's 2020 but mine town still has that damned KOMA radio statoni(even if it blew down in a tornado) yup! Still there!

I got the 65 inch roku tcl. I think it was the 5th gen. I agree it sucks you can't connect a BT device without a proprietary roku device. And even using the app to do it has a latency issue. The only other fix I can think of is using a BT transmitter for tv's, they are reasonably priced. But let's face it no one here bought a tcl roku tv because it was best in class. It was the best bargain for your money. So when youre surprised that your bargain tv doesn't come with all the bells and whistles, I'm surprised that folks still think that being cheap doesn't get them the shiniest. diamond.

I called tcl and they said you cant hook up bluetooth to tcl tvs. And called the bluetooth head phone company . and they also said even with a transmitter blue tooth would not work so i sent the head phones bacl . never again will i buy a tcl.

There are other ways to pair a soundbar to the either by AV cables digital optical which is the easiest and audio jack

I know that this isn't available for me because I'm not buying overpriced Roku branded speakers. I've tried the app, both devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network, and it's crap. Doesn't matter what Wi-Fi network I'm using, doesn't matter if any of my devices is right next to the box, what device I'm using Note 10+ 5G or IPhone XS Max, the audio is always garbled and when it does work it's beyond out of sync.

I've watched three so far. I have 32"ONN ROKU TV ( 7 new model) and I don't see " headphones or pair new device or Bluetooth device " . I have , speakers, add devices, remotes (good) I then go to 'add devices ' ( looks good) 4 boxes #1 remote #2 wireless speakers #3 wireless soundbar #4 subwoofer ( I tried both 2 and 3 ..nothing. Another option is speakers (tap yes) add new speakers ( ok) shows #2,#3,#4 I'm done. Will donate tv ( think before you buy ) Wanted a tv for garage , add Amazon firestick to it. Buy Samsung or Sony for about $30 more. big mistake , Cheap product ! $180 for crap.
