I cannot tell you how much your videos consistently come through for me with easier ways to do things. I must have spent a couple dozen hours over the years researching chestnut peeling tricks because I always bought them in the fall, and never had any luck with them. I have tried all the stupid ways of cutting little X's into their shells, or around their bellies, or buying special knives. Boiling first. Or steaming or oven roasting. And I only ever had luck a small handful of times, and I mostly just ruined lbs and lbs of chestnuts. And now your video comes through with this brilliant concept that I've never seen before! I think the last time I gave up on chestnuts was at least 3-4 years ago, and now I can't wait to try it again. I think I'd love to peel them like you do and then try putting them in a pan and roasting them!

there is actually an even better version which i did not add in the video (as its hard to approach for homecooks) and that is to deep fry the chestnuts for 1-2 minutes and everything comes off even easier . i learned that at Fredy Giradet

@@WalterTruppTheChefsTable oh wow! So you obviously take their outer shell off first I assume? Then instead of the water bath, it’s a deep fry? If it’s so short, I’m guessing it’s like 175°C?

Did enjoy your video; thank you. Got confused between the first "5-8 minutes" comment and the following ""10-15 seconds" one.

I too was confused by the different time mentioned. Sadly only 20% of my nuts peeled as easily as yours. A lot of mine broke apart, the nuts didn't stay whole.

I agree with Jaqui, your changing my life. I have never eaten or cooked chestnuts. Heck, not sure if I have even seen them in the stores. I have been interested in them every Christmas season. The Christmas song " chestnuts roasting on a open fire". Yup I need to see if I can find some for the holidays. Hey sorry I'm kind of flooding you with comments, but I keep finding more of your videos. They are wonderful.

Hi Victor Yes chestnuts should be ripe soon where you are . I love them but I agree they are not common in shops but always buy smaller ones they have a firmer texture When large they are often crumbly/ flourery…… If you are on Facebook you should join my private group as we do life cooking sessions there every week . It’s fun and hope you are well

@@WalterTruppTheChefsTable actually yes I am sighed up on Facebook, I just don't know how to use it. Instagram also. Again I don't know how to properly use it. However one of my customers has helped me and is always willing to help out this old caveman so I'll check in with her. I have since looked for them online and have found some. I do know that in the US the American chestnut tree was almost wiped out by a tree virus decades ago. Anyway thanks for the heads up. 👍

We have a chestnut tree. Unfortunately, not many people are interested in them. Our squirrels never go hungry during the winter months

Lucky squirrels 😉 sure they appreciate them .where I am from chestnuts are extremely popular. Guess they are a bit of work in terms of peeling but I think it’s worth it Have a great day
