Great lesson Dave. Hope to make that pilgrimage to Rory's grave one day, saw him many times live and he never ever gave anything less than 100% , he was an influence on so many (Brian May, Slash, Johnny Marr and Joe Bonamassa) yet never quite got the credit he deserved.

I had an accident when I was 22 and I lost my indexfinger on my chord hand (playing since a was 14 or so) but that did not hold me back playing! Shit happens and learning to play righthand (because I am lefthanded) just is not an option. I am 54 now and I am still playing my guitar.I have a special slide now and practicing whit this thing regulary!! This is a great thing for me! Why I am telling you that I don't know but I always following your awesome vids, anyway now you know and I just like your way off explaining things! Great thing what you do and I hope you keep this going on Dave! Greetings from Frans from Holland!!

You described the positioning of the slide the best way I’ve ever heard... "you wannabe on the fret, not in the fret." Perfect. Well it made sense to me and I wondered why I never heard it put like that before. Great video by the way and big thanks.

You are blessed with what i call guitar hands. A Long reach. Myself i have strong short stubby hands always won a game of peanuts but doesnt help with guitar. I started out on electric then during the oasis days moved to an electro acoustic. Recently spent a year not playing at all due to a neck injury that crushed a nerve and made my left arm useless. I have now started playing again and dusted off my electric guitars. Trying to get my playing speed back. My playing has suffered since its very frustrating like picking a guitar up for the first time again.

One of the best slide explanations I Have seen. Had to laugh as I too had bought a short slide and filled it with tissue.... Nice tribute to Rory with his being your inspiration to play slide. He was an inspiration to many with his regular playing and slide playing was immense. Keep,up the great work. Cheers.

I did exactly the same thing to inside of my slide when I first tried it and also a shorter one. I used a small piece of stiff foam with some double-sided tape.

Fuckin 'nice video Dave. Amazing that you started in standard tuning. I myself find it extremely difficult to play slide in standard tuning . I'm feeling actually being restricted too much. I just can't get the hang of it. Personally open tunings are so much easier to play for me. In addition, admiration for using a pick. I hardly can play slide with a pick. Only fingerstyle, I put the slide on my middle finger and dampen mainly with the right hand. let the thumb and fingers rest on strings that I don't want to ring out. Again respect for your slide playing style, alla Rory. Love it.

I actually just played some slide at the gig this past Saturday for the first time in probably 9 years. I would like to get more proficient at it. So thank you for making this lesson.

The low D is fine to play in G. It's the 5th of the chord. It's just in the bass instead. Second inversion of the chord. If it wasn't there would be no point dropping the E to it :)

DAVE, another thing you can do with a slide that as big ( always too big on my scrawny finger is stuff you can get for a ten pin bowling ball. 😅They have sticky Velcro stuff they put in the finger cavities! ) My mum got the shits when l knocked her Velcro off; l had to get it right. Works a bewdy! Bel from OZSTRAYLA. 🇦🇺👊🏾😬😜

Great video as always! Question from a rank beginner at guitar coming from a keyboard background. I want to stay in standard tuning to burn its oddities into my brain. With regard to slide, what are your non slide fingers doing on your left hand aside from muting? That makes a huge difference on what finger to put the slide on. If the answer is nothing then it obviously makes no difference.
@thedavesimpson6 жыл бұрын
My fingers are only muting. Other than that there just there. : )

Can you please do a video on John Frusciantes Telecaster Tone
@hoplophobe6 жыл бұрын
To continue as I accidently submitted, if the answer is something is it better to leave your first 3 fingers open as you do for fretting other notes? Or switching back and forth between using and not using slide? Or is it better to put the slide on your first finger to use as a surrogate for bar chords, leaving the middle, ring, and pinky fingers available for fretting notes?
