Almost all par 4s are two strokes to hit the green for most people anyway, so it makes more sense to make those two shots clubs you are comfortable and confident with. Importantly, it also allows you to chose distances that keeps hazards out of play

Dude 2 of my best shots this year were lay ups on par 5s. No stress mid irons travel at least 20% longer. Science. If I could trick myself into hitting a “lay up” as an approach shot, I’d be happy as a flicked bean.

Hi Matt, have not played for 13 years. Since playing again ive played atleast 20 games slowing improving using your course management/bogey golf. Today I hit 14 over, stressless golf, played my confidential clubs. Only used the driver only a couple of fairways. Really enjoying my golf. Thank you, for anyone reading these comments. I went from shooting 120+ and often losing a bag full of balls each round, to breaking 100 for the first time in September by making confidential swings to easy targets. I’m now about a 6 handicap. I was a 12 about a year ago. I hit the ball far but kept hitting hazards. Got a 2 iron and it is an absolute game changer. Fairway finder for sure. My friends poke fun for me rarely hitting driver but I always outscore them 😂

Playing imaginary matches against bogey is one of the best on course drills I’ve ever done. It really makes you think about what you’re doing and reinforces the strategies shown here. Kudos once again Baus-man.😎

Thanks to the way of the playa, this is how I play my golf these days. It took me from hi teens to single figure handicapsky. Friends give me shiezen on the tee when they see a 4 iron, but are a bit quieter when it’s par time. I think these vids are some of your best mate. Nice work

The “comfortable” club strategy is spot on. My go to fairway finder is my 5W, flies 215-225. I use it all over the course and off the tee regularly on par 4s so I can hit my trusty 7 iron into the green.

i shoot low/mid 90s, have a 300 yard drive that I cannot control consistently. do you recommend picking up a 3 iron? I'm decently comfortable with my irons, just the driver gets me in so much OB trouble. But when it goes well it feeds the illusion that I can do it the next time as well haha

This is great strategy, IF you can keep it in play and shape it like you. I don’t own a driver and never will. Currently I’m. 13 handicap, I hit my 5 wood 90 percent of the time on par 5s or my 2 hybrid. It’s truly a game you can never win.

This is more of a general question more so than related to this video, but have you ever considered talking or debating other experts on golf strategy etc? I hear people like Lou Stagner/ Mark Crosweld etc talk about data driven stats about getting closest to the hole, while you have always exposed that your favorite shot to the green, regardless of distance for example, is the way. For what it's worth if you ever humored doing a debate I would love to hear the episode. Thanks for all you do!

Bogey is my goal. Keep it up, make a single par, and you’ve broken 90. For me the key isn’t to find bogey to be acceptable but TRY to make bogey. Play safe. An OB screws up your plan. 3 on, 2 putt 4 on, 2 putt Par some par 3s. Only one putt when your 3 on, 4 on leaves you close to the pin.

My point was most high handicaps don't hit their 4 iron better than their driver. If you have similar control over both clubs, why not take the distance ? If you only control your 7 iron 20% better than your 4 iron, is it really to your benefit to lay up opposed to going for the green? Obviously a lot of variables, and I don't disagree that below average golfers can often drop strokes by being smarter and more conservative, but I don't think laying up is the answer for every shot.
