Tier 7 French Cruiser made the mistake of running broadside to mine the other day, 3 cits, devastating strike and took her out in 1 full broadside salvo to her.... As Jingles would say: "That's a paddlin'."

Fun fact: she never had a single funnel layout, she also never had the 152 mm of the 102 mm guns they gave her in the game. The 152 mm ones are the same ones Warspite has, which Iron Duke never got. The 102 mm guns she has are the same type of guns used for HMS Belfast’s secondary guns, only in a different mount. The guns were only used in the XIX mountings aboard QEs HMS Barham, Malaya and Warspite, HMS Hood, and the Revenge-class. Her anti-aircraft guns were none she actually had. The quadruple Vickers MGs were the ones that were mounted on Valiant and same with the Octuple 2-pounders. Whereas the quadruple Pom-Poms in Mk VII quadruple mounts were used first on the KGV class (at least for battleships)

They definitely took some creative liberties with the "upgrades" of many WWI ships. They had to in order to make them fit in the tier range they fight in.

I always enjoy the historical commentary you do for the various ship classes. For some reason I haven't had the same success with this ship that I've had with the Orion, though I've only played 8 or 9 battles in it so that's not much of a sample size. You are so right about the need to avoid being focus fired in this ship.

Avoiding focused fire is a trait of all the RN BB's... Conqueror just melts under sustained fire. :(

How to play iron duke: 1 spam HE at angled BB or even cruisers because low tier cruiser armour is crap and you can citadel furutakas. 2 don't bother switching to ap and don't show too much broadside

This is the ship I looked the most to get from a history standpoint which i got immediately thanks to the blue prints. Last year for the one hundred year after jutland, the bbc broadcasted an interesting documentary about that battle.

Well, i just finished the grind with Iron Duke and i was able to do well in the end, considering this is the ship i was looking the most to play in, i am glad i was able to perform. In one of my latest match, i found myself in a brawl with a Queen Elizabeth and was able to do a lot of damaged to it. I also noticed than the short fuse ap seem a lot less prone to over pen cruiser, i had a fight with a cleveland and was able to bring it's hp to zero without scoring a citadel. I see what you mean for the HE, i shot a bow in Guilio Cesare with ap and only got bounces and when i took my next shot with HE, i did in the range of 6000 plus a fire

I always thought this ship was cool. I consider myself somewhat of Jutland historian/specialist, so I really enjoyed playing on this ship. All the ww1 ships are great, as far as the "cool factor" is concerned for me! Great video, very well done!

Good review. I think that it does better against t7's than the other battleships because it's HE is strong. Common theme there. Of course it takes massive damage to any battleship tho I suspect it holds up well to cruisers with it's 8" of upper belt armor. Haven't tested that but it wouldn't surprise me if it was only vulnerable to superstructure hits from cruisers.

It's better than other battleships at this tier IMO. Only the Koenig really seems to be more resistant and it has more to do with just not having any superstructure to speak of.

The Fiji was trying to secure the kill on the low health Shchors behind you first, which is the right move once he gets spotted before he can launch torpedoes. After that I'm assuming that he just wanted to get one last volley into you before he died, or maybe something noble like going for the reset in the hopes his teammates would overrun your base.

Daniel Stuart you should use ap against heavy targets aka battleships, AP / HE for the normal cruisers and HE for destroyers, keep in mind that this is for the best case and that you can use both ammo types on all types of ships but it will be less effective, my advise is load ap asap and when you see a destroyer rushing you switch he asap

Daniel Stuart I don’t reload he if a destroyer comes just shoot the water line so your aps arm and you will one shot cruisers and destroyers if you don’t over pen

Some ships I will, some I wont. Iron Duke, Queen Elizabeth, KGV/DoY/Nelson/Hood, Lion, and Conqueror all have viable AP if people would just learn to use it. They also all generally have good HE too.

oh im not going with that setup! as i see the Iron Duke she is good at Brawling as you can burn your enemies down as you pull up to them! My Iron Duke eats Tier 5 and 6 ships for breakfast! Full AA build gives her also Full Decent range 2ndaries! hook her up with AA 2ndary upgrades and dmg control in the 2nd slot! preventive maintenance, expert marksman, basic and advanced firing with a 10 point commander is a good start for him! playstyle is nice with a high fire chance than the equal tiered 5s and even some of the 6s gives him a badass reputation for burning down enemies before the y reach your 2ndaries!

Is this review still relevant? Maybe I'm just bad but this ship seems to be nothing more than a floating citadel that can't hit or penetrate the broadside of a barn, I feel like it got nerfed but I can't be bothered to sift through patch notes to find that out.

Gun traverse speed makes this ship trash for me. I just hate not being able to aim to a target even if you turn a little bit. Tryed EM, still trash. Its just impossible to make the god damn traverse speed a bit better. I main germans as BB class so thats also why I cant stand insane slow traverse speed. If you like this ship then I respect and admire your patience.

juan jose acosta nope, never seen one in over 1k games. Even tried it out in training room, both ships were destroyed at the same time, while both teams had the same points. It was a defeat. I tried it, there are no draws in Warships. In Tanks are draws, but not in Warships

mike pontiac so why didn't i get a draw under perfect circumstances? Like i said, i rammed a stock Hatsuharu in my stock Hatsuhary in the bow. It was a standard battle on polar. I made sure to not sail through the enemy base and the enemy was a deactivated bot. We both were destroyed and yet i lost and the bot won. How do you explain that not being a draw, if there are draws in the game?

I think the Duke's accuracy helps it out with BB vs BB engagements but the HE spam gets old after a while. I haven't touched RNBB's (outside of Hood and Nelson) since this How to Play line was launched =|
