This video is explained perfectly. I watched it three years ago when I bought a Rummikub card version to understand it. Today at lunch I played a round with some colleagues; I lost yet I managed to practice for future rounds and focus on strategies. Also, I see that you didn't mention the penalties for illegal plays, two minute limit and the points when winning/losing; yet, it doesn't lose the essence for beginners, medium or advance players.

We developed a few house rules which make the game more enjoyable and speeds it up a bit. Rule1, When drawing tiles at the start of a game, any double is returned to the pile, and a different tile is taken. This keeps you from getting bogged down with doubles. Rule 2, The game starts with 20 points, instead of 30. This gets everyone playing right away. Rule 3, The loser is given a joker, and must use it on their initial play. This gets jokers on the table, so anyone can use them later. Enjoy!

Our version of the starting 30 is you can play less then 30, but you cant start adding to otger ppls groups until youve put your own 30 down lol. So if you do 21 next turn you need 9. This way prevents ppl from having to take cards, if they at least put 3 down.

I know this game was played to illustrate the rules and it does that well, but I need to get this off my chest anyway. The player on the right in his last turn was actually able to win. He should have added his red 1 to the set of three different coloured 1s in the bottom left. Then he should have taken his blue 3 and added it to the set of 3s with the joker in it and thereby dislodge the joker. Then he should have taken the orange 7 from the set of four 7s and placed it next to the orange 4 5 and 6 row. After that he he would have needed to place the joker next to that 7 so that he could then add his orange 9. Having done that he then could have dislodged the orange 4 from that set and taken the black 4 from the black row on the left of the table and added his own blue 4 to form a set of three 4s.Then all he would have needed to do was take one of the red 5s and take the orange 5 and add his own black 5 to form a set of 5s and he would have won.

When the joker is used in a sequence (i.e., 1-12) and represents red 8, for example, if a player splits the sequence to create another one and takes the joker off the end of the split to use in another group or sequence, do they still have to replace the joker with a red 8 tile? In other words, if there was a sequence of 1-12 where the joker represented red 8, a player splits that sequence by taking the 9-12 to get to that joker, can they take the joker off the end, leaving 1-7, and making the joker equal another color tile and number, like blue 12? They would have red 1-7, red 9-12, and the red 8 now becomes blue 12 (e.g., blue 10,11,12)? I think they have to replace the joker with red 8 no matter what. There was a question when we played for the first time. Sorry if my question is confusing. Thanks for reading.

I keep getting argued against this, but I thought this was the rule, can anyone correct or thumbs up?: Your initial meld is ONLY your own tiles and has to be at least 30. And then on your subsequent turn, you can then add/manipulate whatever how you please. Everyone says no, on your SAME INITIAL MELD TURN, after you have played the initial 30 point meld, you can also add/manipulate, etc. which I think is INCORRECT.

The rule on the initial meld of what you think is also correct. But in the actual gameplay I only draw one then pass because its a strategy

I have a question regarding the game example. At 4:28 there is a black run 1, 2, Joker, 4, 5. The player on the right splits the black run and creates (1, 1, 1 Black, Red, Orange); (2, 2, 2, Black, Red, Orange); and (Joker, 3 Orange, 3 Red). My Rummikub instructions state: " A joker can be retrieved from a set on the table by a player who can replace it during his turn with a tile of the same numerical value and color it represents. The tile used to replace the Joker must come from the player's rack and not from the table. A joker that has been replaced must be used in the player's same turn with 2 or more tiles from his rack to make a new set." The player on the right did not replace the Joker with a Black 3 from his rack. Please advise.

Watching to learn. Played once with friends. At the end of the hand the tiles down were red 5 black 5 and wild tile. When the player made her play she did not replace the wild tile with a 5. Friends told me wild tile has to be replaced with a tile it is representing. Is that wrong?
@WordofAdviceTV
@WordofAdviceTV 2 жыл бұрын
This particular rule is not clearly spelled out in the game instructions so people tend to play using their own rules. That's why it's usually a good idea to make sure everyone is on the same page before starting. 😄 (kind of like UNO, where you can play it in many different ways) The way we play it in my family is that the wild does not need to be replaced with a tile it is representing. It can simply be "liberated" from the run or set it is in. Set example: Red 5 - Black 5 - Wild

at 5:12 the left player could win, split the red 2345 run to 23 and 45, put the red 3 in front of it from the group of 3s with the joker, then take the red 1 from a group of 1s to make the red 123, the orange 3 from the first group goes to the orange 456 run to make it 3456, that way the joker is free so it goes up to the black 45678 run in front of it as a black 3 and he can add black 2 in front of it, done

Great video, thanks! One question I had is whether the final move in this game should have been allowed... the joker is representing a 5 and hence should it not require a yellow or blue 5 to clear it (since it is part of a group and not a run) before it could then be re-used as a 3 in the new run?
@GTP_Mars
@GTP_Mars 5 жыл бұрын
Or I guess that the set of 5s is split by adding the red five to the 234 set and the black five is now part of a new set (456), and the joker is now clear...?

Atlas Cedar this is my question!!!! I don’t think (according to the Rummikub rules) that play would be allowed. But I guess it doesn’t really matter as long as you’re consistent about it? Bc even with splitting the group of 5, you’re only supposed to get the joker if you put down exactly what the joke represents. Or so the rules say

For example if there was 555 and 2345 on the table, and you needed one of the 5's in the first set could you move the 5 in the second set and add it to the first set so that you could take the relevant coloured 5 to make a brand new set

I was excited about the tutorial because I am teaching a group this coming week how to play. The only part that did not appear correct is the last hand moving the 5's around to use her 2 and 6. There was a joker in the sequence of 5's and she never replaced the joker with a 5 but used it to make 2,3,4,5,6. The way I play you have to replace the joker with the tile number it was representing which in this case was a '5' and she did have one. Unfortunately I won't be using this tutorial...I'm disappointed. I love this game and hope others will too.

Once a joker (wildcard) has been layed out on the table does it have to stay on the table or can it return to one of the players racks when it has been replaced by a tile?
@WordofAdviceTV
@WordofAdviceTV 5 жыл бұрын
If a joker is replaced by a different tile, it must be used on that same turn, it cannot go back to the player's hand. But I am a fan of modifying rules personally. If you and family or friends find it more interesting to be able to put it back on the rack, then that's the way it should be! ;)

This question continues to be unresolved when my friends and I play. If you're left with only one tile, can you add that tile to a run on the board and go out OR must you always have at least the three tiles to go out, therefore making it necessary for you to continue to draw tiles? We decided that you must have three tiles but still up for discussion.

The rules we play by is that only your initial set or run (the first one you play on the table) must be 3 tiles or more. After that players can place one tile at a time and add to other players' sets and runs

the idea of the game is to get rid of your tiles . if you are playing with more than 2 people you if they have tiles left they count up there tiles worth 30 points s joker is if you still have that and that way you know who comes in with the lowest amount is than 2 and than 3 or forth if 4 are playing

Yes, as long as there are at least 3 tiles remaining in the group you took it out from.

Is there a maximum number of tiles required in any given meld? In some videos it appears that a maximum of 5 tiles. Other videos show as many as 7 tiles in a meld. What's the max?
@lenedjohnjr
@lenedjohnjr Жыл бұрын
As I read rules the max is 13, i.e. no max is stipulated.

Is it possible to re-arrange the tiles on the table and eventually keep some tiles on your set in case there no other option?
@WordofAdviceTV
@WordofAdviceTV 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, if there are tiles that don't fit into any set or run at the end of a players turn, he would put those left over tiles into hand/rack.
@elizabethohlhaut2050
@elizabethohlhaut2050 5 жыл бұрын
I thought this wasn’t allowed? I understood the rules to state that you had to be able to reuse all of the tiles you rearranged. You cannot put any back onto your rack.

That's how we play it. (there are many variations of gameplay) if you were to play by the newest game rules, every player gets 2 minutes per turn and "a player who unsuccessfully builds on or manipulates other sets on the table must replace the tiles in their original positions, take back the tiles he played and draw three tiles from the pouch." tesera.ru/images/items/784463/Rummikub_Rules.pdf

My girlfriend kept asking me if I wanted to play this game with her sisters and mum. I kept saying no, not really knowing what it was and I didn't want to be the only dude hanging out with 4 woman. Lol. I finally gave in and played and I was hooked. It really trips your brain out when you've got a table full sets and you try and convert runs to groups or vise versa. Love it

When you do the splits to create more groups or runs, do you get all the points? If you add a 12 to a run, for example, do you add up all the points of the numbers on the table?

Thank you! The included instructions are very incomplete in my opinion. We couldn't tell for sure that the tiles in the middle were community tiles to be used and manipulated by any player, or that you keep score as you go.

I just bought this game at a thrift store and look forward to playing, love your video so thank you. I do have a couple questions 1) do you keep score throughout and if so that can get real confusing but the directions state that if the game is over and you still have the joker you lose 30 points. and 2) is it possible that the game may not end in both players using all the tiles so maybe this is where a point system might be needed?

Well actually, there are a few different ways you can play this game. Just like there is more then one set of rules for the game UNO. The version you see in this video is single game gameplay. You can also play it using points. For example, you would play three games in a row and whoever has the least amount of points would win. Hope that helps! It's a fun game, enjoy!

If a player has already entered the game with the 30 point minimum and has a run or group within the remaining tiles, are they obligated to play those tiles?
@WordofAdviceTV
@WordofAdviceTV 7 ай бұрын
No, you are not obligated to use all your available runs/groups. You just need to make at least one play per turn to avoid having to take another tile from the draw pile.
