@@Kugrox Ah, okay.
@RantingRagingRelks5 жыл бұрын
@Orangey Not an in-depth build, but my sister is actually playing a character based on V in our current campaign. We're doing a combination of pact of the chain Warlock, and beastmaster conclave from the revised ranger. An Imp familiar can look like a Raven and still possess an imp's abilities (Griffon), take a Beast of the Earth companion from the new class features Unearthed Arcana and say it makes itself look like a strange panther (Shadow). Take enough levels into Warlock to obtain Summon Greater Demon and call forth a Barlgura, and reflavor it as a scary golem (Nightmare). For some spells, Eldritch Blast can constitute Griffon's blasts, Expeditious Retreat can facilitate V riding on Shadow, and Far Step can cover V teleporting from nearly dead enemy to nearly dead enemy. Take the Fury of the Chain Master invocation at 9th level from the class features UA, and you can have Griffon attack as a bonus action while you Eldritch Blast and have Shadow corner foes. We use a lot of Homebrew of r/UnearthedArcana in my games, but Fiend Patron works well enough and for race I'd say Scourge Aasimar, since every battle expends more and more of V's energy and wears him down.
@OrangeyChocolate5 жыл бұрын
RavingWriterRelks Interesting take on V. I decided to go Conjuration Wizard instead of Warlock because you get access to a lot more spells and abilities to help keep V out of danger (Benign Transportation is basically a free Misty Step). Also, 10th level Con Wizards can’t have their concentration broken by damage, which is kind of broken for a build like this. I’d go with Conjure Elemental for Nightmare, since I think an earth elemental is more accurate than a barlgura demon, and take Shocking Grasp and Dragon’s Breath to give Griffon his lightning attacks.

10:10 Technically, you should use disguise self to take OFF the glasses and become Superman. You're mild mannered regular man most of the time, and only super in combat, so the one hour of hidden identity is better in reverse. And honestly who is going to be taking time to investigate to see through that disguise when they are in combat?
@CCartman694 жыл бұрын
There's actually some version of Superman where when he's in Superman form he's vibrating his face so fast you can't actually see his face as anything more than a blue. This works quite well to represent disguise self for an hour.
@ericpeterson87322 жыл бұрын
@@CCartman69 I think you are thinking about the original Flash, Jay Garrick. It was well documented that before he gave up his secret identity he used to vibrate his face in public to prevent recognition and having his picture taken. Sounds exhausting. While Superman could do that, it defeats the purpose of a maskless super persona. With all that power, Superman wants the public to trust him and being able to see his face is a big part of that. Now that I think about it, the vibrate/superspeed trick is what they did on Smallville for longer than I cared for. (everything they did to delay his eventual becoming Superman made his growth as a character stunted)

Do not speak of that nova-ability!! It is among the things we don't speak about. The entire idea of giving Superman (who has 15 powers all ready) a superpower that makes him human for 24 hrs after he uses it is incredible stupid and shows the writers just don't know how to make Superman relatable. For a build that's pretty much impossible to make, this is actually really well done. I agree with the Sorcerer levels, but I'd swap out the Monk levels for Fighter levels with Unarmed Fighting and the Battle Master subclass. Less speed and AC, but better hit die and more ability score improvements, plus fewer multiclassing minimums. For starting ability scores, I'd go with 15, 10, 13, 8, 12, 14 This is just how I personally would make this build and it's a new comment on a year-old video, so I don't know if you'll actually read it, but I also know that comments help the algorithm so I figured there's no harm in leaving this here. I love these videos. Keep up the good work
@aliasanonymous53872 жыл бұрын
(Yes, I am replying to my own comment despite knowing nobody will ever see it.) With the addition of Ascendant Dragon Monk, I actually think we can get pretty much everything Superman needs from Monk. I would bump DEX, CON, and WIS all the way to 15 while STR, INT, and CHA get dropped to 8 (Charisma will be bumped up with racial bonuses. Hopefully your dm gives you a Belt of Storm Giant Strength). I would invest most ASIs into DEX and WIS, with one being used to grab the Tough feat. I would invest 19 levels into Ascendant Dragon Monk. For the final level, I would go Fighter to get the Superior Technique fighting style and grab Pushing Attack for my maneuver. With this build, Supes would have a base 60ft of movement speed, d10 damage di which bypass resistance to nonmagical damage. For flight, he has a minute of flying with Radiant Soul as well as Wings Unfurled to fly every time he uses Step of the Wind. His Breath of the Dragon could either be his heat vision (30-foot line of fire) or frost breath (20-foot cone of cold). For his nigh invulnerability, he'll have high AC, proficiency with every saving throw, the ability to reduce the damage of ranged attacks, resistance to one type of elemental damage with Aspect of the Wyrm, and Empty Body (the main benefit would be resistance to everything but force damage, but the invisibility could just be reflavored to him moving faster than the eye can see).

Only thing I would have done differently is gone "way of the open hand" over "sun soul". Reason being is that open hand either let's you hit enemies 15ft back or knock them prone on hits, which for flavour you could say is your super strength on punches. This means you'd have to wait a few levels before you get "heat vision". But fire bolt in sorcerer is a way stronger version of heat vision anyway and you aren't doubling up. You could also just make it part of your story as you discover your powers.

That's not how I did it, but I respect it. My build: Goliath is good for strength and constitution, natural athlete fits well and saves a skill, stone's endurance fits, powerful build fits, and mountain born can allow you to fly higher than most. Folk Hero; literally describes his background and demeanor perfectly, and logically the animal handling skill makes sense not only as a farm boy, but he also has an alien zoo. The rustic hospitality fits well too. Champion for athleticism and extra fighting style, namely defense and protection. Divination Wizard for using portents as super senses. Same spells as you listed, but I added in some divination spells to enhance the super senses. Feats: Tavern Brawler, Tough, Mobile, Alert, and Spell Sniper in that order. Has a sword, but often doesn't use it to hold back and do non-lethal damage, because Superman had a sword and came to the same conclusion. I also agree that he'd be good at calligraphy, because he's a journalist, therefore he writes a lot, therefore he has good handwriting. I dumped charisma mainly because if he was any good at it, he'd easily be in a relationship with Lois Lane, and he's a dork at heart. Intelligence is his main stat with the physical stats being secondary, mostly because the passive buff from the race and feats evens things out. Wisdom is lacking, but choosing proficiency in wisdom skills at the start as a fighter (perception/survival) makes up for it. Edit: I briefly considered the intimidation skill, but that's not what Superman is trying to do. Plus if you want a laugh, look up JSA Good Cop Bad Cop for an example of Superman utterly failing an intimidation check. Edit: Replace Protection with Unarmed Fighting and Tavern Brawler with Brawny.

In addition to jumping on the "I like the part where you talk about other ideas you didn't go with" bandwagon, I'd also throw it out there that it would be cool if you occasionally threw out quick suggestions for alternative builds at the end, especially on the ones that use Unearthed Arcana content. You loose features X and Y but you get feature Z in it's place" could go a long way. Also, congrats on 100 videos and great job with this build in particular. Clark honestly came together a lot more easily than I thought he would. Not quite as overpowered as the man himself, but that's actually a good thing since it allows him to be a part of a larger party without overshadowing the other members. Now that I'm thinking about it, now that Superman is covered all you need is Green Lantern to have all of the most iconic Justice League members covered. Or Cyborg to get a full set of the movie team.

This was really fun to watch, even as someone who doesn't really play DnD and only is aware of the concepts through osmosis. Loved the puns and love the idea of a level 20 Superman-like monk running around saving people. I will say that in regards to the difficulties of making the build fully Superman, remember there have been countless incarnations of the Man of Steel throughout his 80+ years of history. Some verisons are brawlers, others are more intellect and science based, others are charismatic tricksters, and so on. So if you want to do a Superman build, I would say really specify and zero in on which Superman you want.

Absolutely love the intro part where you mentioned why you didn't pick other options, it's something I often see in the comment sections and hearing you explain that you _did_ think of the stuff is real nice. Also, here's a request for you: Talion, from the Shadow of Mordor. I feel like his kit could just be a Fighter/Monk multiclass with excessive flavouring, but I'm interested in seeing how you might reproduce it

Superman's mental and magical resistances should go into the minus. He gets mind-controlled when the wind naturally changes direction or the weather warms up by 2 degrees

"Crypt tonight". ouch, that pun hurts. No, seriously, I like your jokes. I also like the new section where you explain possibilities that you dismissed. You did a great job here. You included all the major powers, built the lore into why he had them, created a justification for the easy check on Disguise Self, and even included a little story progression that ties into the Monastic Tradition. You proved yourself wrong on this build being impossible!

I feel like you'd have been better off using Juggernaut Warforged as the race. I know its a robot, but reflavoring, it gives the following: - Nat AC. While you do want armor proficiency, isnt itself armor. So you can still use monk features. - The Nat AC allows you to lose a measure of Dex/Wis to improve other stats. - Boosted STR, plus doubled carrying capacity. Pick up Brawny feat to lift mountains - No need for sleep.

2 Levels of Barbarian may be a good idea as well. Resistance to physical damage from rage is good (and a lot faster than stoneskin), as is Reckless Attack and Danger Sense if we must use spells

I did enjoy the mini section behind ho. Reasoning. I’ve tried making a few of these type of chi archers myself. There’s a lot more thinking needed than people realise.

You know what i actually theory crafted my own kryptonian prior to this video. I was on the monk aasimar life. But didnt think of using sorcerer, i was gonna use paladin to smite with fists for extra radiant damage. But i think this works better, especially to get consistent flight and spell slots with sorc

Liked the breakdown of what options had crossed your mind and why you didn't go with them! Also real cool job with superman; its not a perfect emulation as its not all but invincible, but it gets all the necessities really well and furthers my group's gag that a superhero isn't 'super' unless they're a sorcerer.

not half bad for creating the most OP character ever

@abucket144 жыл бұрын
@@hasthehighground8560 i mean, you might be right. literally any show where death is impermanent. but considering how Sups could destroy any planet, any galaxy he wanted without putting forth any effort. he literally moves celestial bodies and can race to the end of the constantly expanding universe. wait why am i talking superman up? i dont like him as a character, why am i defending a comment i made nine months ago? ive got so many questions... and my opponent has the high ground....

abucket14 I’m interested as to why people dislike him so much whats your reason?
@abucket144 жыл бұрын
@@hasthehighground8560 a character who has no room to grow as a person is just uninteresting to me except as a force to guide other characters to that growth. basically, if you have to take away someone's powers for them to have any potential to grow as an individual that feels like bad practice to me. most hero stories at one point or another loose their powers over the course of their story to show how they rely too much on these powers. a good example of a well-written protaganist who looses their powers would be Static from Static Shock. you see he is constantly growing into his powers and into manhood throughout his stories so in the story where they introduce that sun-spots affect his electrical powers its alright to have that kind of story because he is a character who is always growing, always adapting. meanwhile with superman they take away his powers regularly and its only in these moments that he actually seems to develop his character only for it to revert the moment he gets his powers back. don't get me wrong i like the superman stories, just not the way they use his character. their is definitely a place for superman in literature, i just feel that he is better as a mentor, or model, than as a protagonist. (also he does make a great antagonist, especially to batman who he is more of a foil towards)

Don’t forget (yep, 2 years later, but I came across this while doing my own Kryptonian for an upcoming game) that you can select *either* the +WIS to AC from Monk, OR, the static Mage Armor from Draconic, so if you’re looking at Dex 18, but had to tank WIS, you can still have a starting AC of 17. Yes, it’s 1 point, but that 1 point is 5% and it matters! This also means in other builds (such as Captain America, for example) you can start with DEX + Draconic + Shield, and it’s legal, as opposed to Monk, who loses Unarmored with a shield.

I just want to say I honestly love your channel Tulok, and I'm so glad I stumbled upon it (found it after you did the Jotaro vid). I'm actually the shitty member in my group who just plays and tries to build pop culture characters in my group but nowhere near to the extent and detail your videos show, most notable I ran Iron Fist just as an open palm monk in one of our long form campaigns and just let RPing do the rest. So your videos felt very "just what I was looking for" when I first found them. You're awesome and please keep up the good work.
