One of, if not THE best instructors on here! Thanks!

He is a high level, top notch player and equally as good as an instructor. He seems to also be just an overall good dude. I've been playing for 36 years and happen chance stumbled across his channel and listened to him teaching a song I was very familiar with and was extremely impressed with him. If I ever just don't feel like learning a particular song that has a lot of nuances,...I go straight to this channel to see if he has it. It saves me a lot of time and I know that he is very accurate and of course, easy to decipher. I do quite a bit of teaching myself but I often refer others to this channel when I haven't got the time.

Also agree about Jimmy Lyons. One of the great "unknown" guitarists who doesn't stand out with flashy solos but plays exactly what the song calls for. There's no better example than this song. His phrasing and musicality impresses me way more than any shredding.

I was listening to that song in the car today and really enjoying the solo (especially the ending) and then I was trying to figure out who the guitar player was and I couldn't. He is definitely an excellent guitar player.

RIP Eddie Money. I had the pleasure of meeting him. Actually, I drove him to LAX in 1991. He was going to sing the national anthem to the USFL Championship game. He actually sat up front with me and sang “FIVE tickets to Paradise” as he had his wife and 3 kids with him. I love his music but he seemed to be an even better guy.

I had an uncle, RIP, who was just six years older than me and who was best friends with Jim Lyons in high school in the Bay Area where I grew up. Think they went to Marina High School, now closed. Story goes that when Eddie Mahoney moved from the East Coast to the Bay Area, the three of them wound up meeting in school. My uncle played guitar but was never as good as Jim Lyons, and they’d been gigging around the Bay Area along with tons of other garage bands. Jimmy and Eddie made it, and my uncle was a roadie with them until they started traveling out of the local area.

I love this song, thanks for your lesson! Quick did; I drove SuperShuttle 1990-2001. One night, I went to pick up a flight attendant at the private terminal on Imperial Highway. I pulled up and watched the Lakers walk out of the terminal as James Worthy was being interviewed by Jim Hill 3 feet in front me. The lakers had just lost a playoff game in Portland whom they eventually defeated to go on to the Finals and then lose to Jordan’s Bulls (Michael’s first Championship). My passenger shows up, I take her home to Valencia about 1:00 am. I tap the clear/available button for my morning business and I get, “Money, Eddie” in Westlake Village. I think, “No way!” So I drive out and get there about an hour early and park around the corner and nap setting my Walkman alarm for 5 mins before his pick up time as was my routine. The alarm finally wakes me, I get up, and drive to the address and ring the doorbell. The door opens and lo and behold, it’s EDDIE MONEY!! He couldn’t have been a nicer guy!! He was flying to sing the national anthem for a USFL playoff game, I believe the Championship? Anyway, as we drove towards the 101 he pointed out some other rock star homes and said he’d just jammed with these guys (Motley Crue) at one of those homes. As we rode at a snails pace down the 405, he told me, “I was a rock star”. I chuckled and said, “I know exactly who you are Mr. Money”. He wasn’t quite convinced as I tried not to geek out and remain professional. Suddenly, he breaks out in “FIVE Tickets to Paradise” as he had 3 kids and his with on board. I spent about an hour with one of the coolest guy you’ll ever meet and I can say, the late great Eddie Money serenaded me for about an hour. Thanks for your time. EM RIP.

Excellent tutorial! Spot on. This is one of the best solos on record, one of my personal Top Five faves. I love that whistling major 3rd feedback note at the end. Jimmy Lyons had to be pretty loud and facing his amp in order to get that feedback note. Fortunately, the engineer let the tape run. Lyons had to have done that before. He just waited for it to happen because he knew it would. Hendrix would have been proud!

Really like the repetition in teaching the phrases of the song. Really helps. Self taught, no theory or note reading. Barely can keep the string names straight. At 12:30 onward even the slowed down is just too quick for my eyes to follow your finger placement clearly.

Thanks for this lesson, it's truly amazing and you're a great teacher. But the last part of the solo sure isn't the "easiest part" to me lol ... sure, it's just a two string hammer-on triplet and I can play it at like 85% or 90% (maybe) speed, but to hit it at full speed and stay on beat throughout the entire 4 measures and not get lost is not at all easy for me. In fact I've yet to see anyone on KZbin truly hit that ending of the solo like Jimmy Lyon did on that recording. So clean and smooth.

I got a kick out of seeing you do this one. Last summer I heard this song on the radio and thought, "OK, I've got to transcribe that solo." Man, was I in for a challenge. It took me a long time, but I got it done--though not as accurate as yours and I don't have all the fills down yet. What a sweet solo. I kept wondering whether this solo was composed on piano and Jimmy adapted it to guitar. Another name you don't hear a lot who did some very tasty licks is Jeff Carlisi.
