Make sure the part is clean, then have a bucket of water with a 400 grit maroon scuffing pad, and work it evenly across the surface. This method will not flatten or remove any surface imperfections.
Make sure the surface has an even finish and then move onto the green pad which should be 600 grit. These pads are made of scotch brite and do have grit ratings. Use the same process, make sure the surface has water applied and the pads are presoaked. Then rinse the surface and pads as needed.
Finally using the same process with the 1000 grit white pad. This will be the final step before polishing.
Once done, rinse and dry the fender.
Using a wool pad on a rotary polisher, apply an aluminum polish and work it across the surface. Light to medium pressure is needed, don’t apply too much product where it causes sling.
Apply more product as needed and clean with a cloth. A final polish can be done with a microfiber cloth by hand if you wish.
Then you’ll be left with a finish like this.
