When it comes to dampening the closet, towels are actually a really good material for absorbing sound.

Important: Sound absorption is not sound proofing. If you reduce reverberation in a closet with foam panels, clothing, towels etc. it doesn't change how loud it sounds outside of that closet. That's why professional vocal booth's are always air tight (air tight = no sound waves can escape) and why they are basically a room in a room concept. But reducing reverb time makes your closet more even sounding, which gives you a more accurate feedback on how your voice actually sounds. What makes your neighbours happy is acutally the "close your windows and doors part". If you upgrade your doors with with at least a towel in front of the bottom gap or a stuffed animal you normally use to keep the cold out, it helps making the door more soundproof. This video helped me a lot to understand how to work on a budget: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5WciKCgia-hn6s

I assume the advice in the link is sound, but much as I'd like for not all in the locality hearing me making a racket, anyone who reckons one part of the setup is fairly inexpensive at about $5,000, has lost me. That's professional folk he's advising.

This is awesome. I had asked a few youtube vocal coaches about this issue. I lived in an apartment with so many roommates that I was never alone and we all shared thin walls. Each of their recommendations was to sing in my car :(

I practice/record into the box where my speakers came in, with some cheap sound absorbing foam inside it, and put a cloth over me like an old photographer XD

I have the IsoVox. It definitely dampens loud vocals so the neighbors don’t really hear me, but my wife still hears me pretty clearly. It’s good for keeping wall reverb and ambient room noise out of my vocal tracks though!

I’m losing my soul without being able to sing…. Really *sing*. I have sung into pillows, but I’m so out of practice since I’ve lived in places with shared walls that I’ve lost my range, Control, everything and I need to sing. I have a walk in closet, but it butts up against my neighbors walk in closet, as our condos are exact mirror image floor plans. The walls are a little thin - I can tell when they are in the room (shared wall with my bedroom). But I can only hear what sounds like a dresser drawer, sometimes muffled talking -not discernible or disturbing. My windows are single pane, so I don’t know what to do. I used to be able to sing, had a good range, practiced copying Ella Fitzgerald, Joni Mitchell, Pavarotti and except for Pavarotti (unless I tuned him to a different key or harmonized) - could hit nearly every note. Now I sound like a raspy frog since I’m so out of practice. Played guitar (mediocre) but my 6 guitars aren’t doing anyone any good just sitting there looking pretty. My fingers aren’t calloused anymore either… but that’s off topic. I really need to sing. I sing for joy and mental health and I really need to start again. You mentioned the isobox - and you mentioned there were other head thingys on Amazon but could you tell me what keywords to search for? Thanks for your helpful video.

i had a bit of different situation 1. i didn't give a fuck if the neighbours heard me singing metallica 2. i have a good relationship with my neighbours 3. i asked them if they were able to hear me 4. APPARENTLY THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO HEAR ME AND DIDN'T REALIZE I WAS SINGING go figure hehe and i asked them seriously and just to test it , i put a microphone at my neighbours fence went back in the house and screamed my lungs out to Harverster of Sorrow..............Nope, couldn't hear a fucking thing it was pretty amazing

@R. Won't have freedom to Belt ??????? Mate, if you question your FREEDOM TO BELT then you shouldn't be belting Belt Away if your neigbours dont' complain................ YOU'RE GOOD if your neighbours complain............. COME TO AN ARRANGEMENT Remember, Since you are louder they basically have to do what you want because if you don't stop they live in an eternal Heavy Metal Hell Believe me they'll compromise in which case ........YOU'RE GOOD don't worry you'll be fine
@martinkuliza2 жыл бұрын
@R. POP BALLADS ??? Pffftt You've got nothing to worry about................Belt Away if you're neighbours get sensitive over pop ballads then THEY ARE THE PROBLEM NOT YOU I would understand if it was Metal, but Ballads, No if i was singing Whitesnake - Soldier of Fortune or Debbie Gibson - No More Rhyme or Eternal Flame and my neighbours were like.......SHUT UP i'd be like.......... SERIOUSLY ??? SERIOUSLY ???????????? LOL Sing away mate, Ballads are perfectly acceptable in any neighbourhood what do you sing ? who are your influences ?

Can I soundproof my bathroom in The shower area?I like it because I have a mirror and I feel more private but it’s right next to the neighbor.

Welp. Sucks that in germany we usually dont have closets that are rooms of themselfes. Guess I have to empty out my Ikea wardrobe and stand in there? Might be a bit small though.

You could look on Amazon there are some cheaper alternatives to the IsoVox where you just put the head in it not so much standing in it

@voicehacks4 жыл бұрын
That isovox thing and there are some other devices like it on amazon where you just put your head in it would be the solution. You can also order or build an actual vocal booth inside your home as well although it’s a lot of room

lmao, I learned zem deep powerful growls in the car. I drove somewhere, had spare time the first time, stopped somewhere on the side of a road in the forest and got to it. Been doing it a lot ever since. Sounds pretty ridiculous and your posture may not be the most optimal one, but it'll work too. Edit: You can also listen to a CD while practicing. Huehuehue
