I just graduated BMT exactly a month ago & we don’t do the run 3 times a week anymore, we only did them on Saturdays. Also for letters, yes do pre stamp & pre write the address because you only get 15 mins of personal time & that’s literally almost nothing especially if you want to write to a lot of people. & yes you can get in trouble if you got caught after lights out or before reveille by an MTI cuz a few people of my flight & other flights did. Also they give you a memory work sheet to remember your ranks & along with the airman’s creed & song & you have to sing them every day before you start PT & also every night before lights out. The squadron & flight shirts are only cash so just bring around $60 for that or you can always get money out from the atm.

AF Comm/KC 135R Boom Operator Retiree here. I am proud of you. You have done something only a very small percentage of people will ever do. Here is a small bit of advice. Learn from those that have been around for a while. Be the expert at your job. Know the AFIs and where to find the correct answers. Seek out a mentor you can trust. Do not be stupid. Stay out of trouble. Do not get yourself in debt. Save your money. Treat everyone with respect because I know damn well that's the way you want to be treated. Do not whine, work hard, study for promotion, and get your CCAF degree. Lastly, smile and have some fun. Thank you for fighting for us. Fly, Fight, and Win!

Being in dep for 9 months has helped me. I run 10-12 miles a week. 3-4 days a week. Push-ups, sit ups, stretches and meditation is what I have been doing. I got the watch, and Bandaids, soles for boots. Some cough drops to to help. Airmen vision also helped out, and this video solidified what I need to do. Thank you, and here comes basic less than 3 weeks.

Retired USAF Veteran here. My first Casio watch lasted about 5 years before ever changing the battery. We called them TI and they wore taps on the bottom of their shoes. It was for intimidation. We had leather boots. Later we were issued lightweight boots with or w/o steel toes. We could also purchase our own boots as long as they met the requirements. I would recommend jogging a mile and a half every morning before going to Basic. Doing push-ups and situps before Basic will help. Bring items like a new toothbrush, new toothpaste, new razors, new soap, etc. Bring about $40.00 and she is correct about writing the serial numbers down.

You didn't get revelry until 6am?? times have changed...interesting suggestion about wearing a watch...when I in Basic (1988) we couldn't wear watches...but...as you mentioned about setting an alarm to get up before revelry to get some stuff done, I used to look at the dorm guard schedule and who ever was on the 4-6am shift, I would tell them to wake me up at a 0445 so I could use leisurely use the bathroom and start getting ready for 0500 to get out the door for PT. I learned the first few days that 40ish dudes trying to take a leak when revelry went off wasn't a cluster fuck I wanted to be part of...I seemed to be the only person to figure that out...

Hello!! The main thing keeping me from joining is the commitment (from my understanding 4 years is the earliest you can leave full time to go to reserve in the airforce) how do you keep from getting homesick? And does the commitment really feel that daunting or does it just feel like a normal job for the next 4 years?
@averybou2 жыл бұрын
Think about air guard. 6 year commitment, but you don't necessarily have to go away from home if you don't want to. Plenty of opportunities to deploy, technician jobs, etc.
@marlinehernandez36392 жыл бұрын
I was scared of the commitment too and it took me 2 years to truly get over it since it was something I always wanted to do, I enlisted and swore in today. As a reservist your duty station is near home unless your job is elsewhere, but they pay for hotel flights miles anything to get you to your duty station otherwise you are home. Do not think about it too much talk to recruiters if you have not speak to both active duty and reserves which is what I didz
@johnanderson8046 Жыл бұрын
Yes, it IS a commitment. You have to make up your mind if you're willing to commit or not. All chicks have to fly from the nest at some point and the military is actually a good way to do so if you're not college-bound right away.

3 days a week? What the F? Run every day. BMT changed, I get red flag days. We were up doing PT at 5 am in my day. After chow, classes. Then running. Every day. Unless to hot. What I hated was fire watch and GQ duty. Giving T.I.'s wake up calls annoyingly funny. Ma'am or Sir. But I had fun with that. They would always try to put me off. Never worked on me. Military bearing as taught. I would say things like "have a good breakfast", or "shower time*. Just to piss them off. I loved being in GQ really.😁

@@toasty6930 1989 August. The sweet spot paid? A disabled veteran for life. The American Legion, did my legal case for free. As a member. What I did to make us better, as an engineer for America, way more than Than I will ever receive compensation for. Here is one, EPA friendly deicing fluid. Now used on roads and runways. I am absolutely, the only person on Earth, that can explain it. Start to finish. Just one thing. Power free oil antifreeze separator, another.Made that with a 55 gallon drum. For catastrophic engine failure in vehicles. Portable, can be used anywhere in the world. A material I found from my home state. The oil itself can be squeezed out 3 times. I made base pay, foreign duty pay, and disability pay. I will never get reimbursed comparatively as the private sector. But really, I am doing fine and will retire soon. I have made a lot of things in history. That no one knows about. But have used. It really doesn't matter here. Unless we can spread to to younger solar systems. Telling about all I know, only temporary entertainment. I doubt I would given a medal of freedom, or a nobel prize. For being innovative. I was just a guy, helping making us be better. Some of us do one thing, some of us do many things. Hell who can make mock up of a label machine with 2 cardboard boxes and 2 pencils? I am that type of engineer. I am still working on a space shipyard. Using 3 meter panels for the outer hull filled with moon dust. A reason for that. I may be old, but not done yet. Ever heard of that? That is what I do, in free time from work. As a food logistics manager. For many companies you know, and may eat at. Inventing good recipes? Just another thing. Garlic shrimp scampi sauce on fried wings? One of my favorites. I was a cook many years ago. I had a polish great grandmother. I have her recipe cards. Always helped in her kitchen. As a kid. Cooking is like engineering. Her focus training me as a cook, applied to my success as a civil engineer. One example? Making concrete. For cold temperatures, you add ginger ale to it. Creates voids to help against freeze/thaw and expansion/contraction. Engineers are scientists as well. I moonlighted as a rock core tester in the USAF. An absolute result is demonstrably proven. That also is like finished food product. Safe or not. As tested. My everyday, just as my past days. But I am still working on more. This is far off from your query, I am a different person as you. I just have a lot on my mind. You can think of the most interesting things in the world. Always have questions. Always feel free to question yourself, and others. We may answer. Correctly. You can quote me on that. Can you make fire? With only wood? I can tell you. how. Just wood. My Cherokee great grandfather taught me that, at 7. Took me a year or so to get it. Bow method, not as tough. Physically. It is tough. Once you get it, easy. How we all survived. Finding fire to use, easier. Just keep it going. Sorry this is long. I just think about a lot. Even when sleeping. As a kid. I just come up with things. Always.
