Do you just email your logo designs to your client? Do you have problems with clients asking for excessive revisions in branding projects? Do your clients tend to change their minds after you show your logo designs?
In this video, Ben talks about the way he presents logo designs and identity projects to clients for the sole purpose of getting great work approved. Ben breaks the branding presentation down slide by slide and covers a few prerequisites you need to have in order to present logo designs like he does for Blind.

I still can't believe how this video got only 440k views in over two years! Like, what are these young designers looking for on the internet? Man! This video is gold and could easily be sold as a 200 dollar online course. I'm dead serious. I watch it everytime I work on a big logo project. This is like the 10th time. When the designing is done and presentation is on the horizon I always come back (just like now) to get focused and reminded on what matters, because you forget some things when doing other stuff beside logos. Kids wanna charge big for a logo but don't learn enough how to justify the price tag. My logos are maybe no better than average, but I do all the things beside designing (including a great presentation), and with all that I can charge 5-7 k without negotiating. That's why this video is so great.

This is the first time I EVER write a comment on KZbin but I just feel like I have to. I usually open like 4 tabs randomly from videos I would like to watch within the next hour. So I did, and I was watching "I Wish I Knew This When I Started: Logo Design". The second one was this and I was just completely shocked to realize the same guy on the previous video was this one. I even went to the other video again to check his face and name just to be sure. It is amazing what The Futur did to him. In the first video, he was just shy and with low self-steem, telling the story of how he used to charge only US$50.00 for a logo. Now, I see this amazing guy who knows what he's talking about, with tons of confidence and find myself learning so much from him. Now he looks like he could charge US$10,000.00 for a logo. The Futur, you only know how to do magic with people. Thank you for all you give us. Watching you is way better than any school or institute. Good vibes to you all.

As a freelancer, I can't meet with some certain clients in some part of the world, is it ethical, is it right to do a video of the presentation with my voice over it and send it to the client?
@lesterjonathans

I have watched this in 2020. Well, I've had issues presenting logos to clients, A friend of mine once called me a dictator as I always presented one option of Artwork, Be it logo, poster or business card e.t.c. to my client(s). I started presenting the same logo design in 3 different versions but with a few tweaks and this gave my clients the sense of choice. I don't really ask for feedback or comments, as Like you have said. "I send mail or Whatsapp" Am changing that effective immediately. This has been useful to me.
@lesterjonathans
@lesterjonathans 2 жыл бұрын
I am quite that dictator too, And What i do nowadays is share sketches before hitting illustrator then tweak the final one into 3 related ... Plus, I share jpg in black and white and a mockup that best suites the brand. I don't ask for feedback either, Because worse you do bring it, You have to explain properly ( Haha )... I love watching this video, Will create this kind of presentation according to Mr. Ben Barnes and share on my Behance...

Mister Ben Burns, you're the man. Thank you for helping me tighten my presentations. Very, very instructive, especially the reasons on WHY you are doing it that way, like the "ego boost" part. Here in Nairobi, Kenya, we normally do slide 1 and slide 2 for all the three options and then do the "Step Four - Compare all Options". Get the client to "feel" and choose one. We then do have another presentation where we show the mockups. Between the two presentations, the client asks for changes and choice of the visuals for presentation (within reason) that are then presented at the "Mockups" (Slide 4 - 6) presentation. That way the client gets brought in further into the brand and we get to do less scattered work. My take is that its is a "culture" difference and we the designers get to choose how we are going to do it. Works very well for a small design boutique.

This is great advice and methodology. Looking back on the identity freelance work I have done in the past, I realized that sometimes being too transparent can also be a bad thing. You want to include the client in the creation process but don't forget that you are the professional that they hired for a reason. don't be afraid to guide the direction of the project and give your honest professional opinion and show how that would be of benefit to the client in the end. Love that this video lists the slides step by step, and helps to eliminate the prospect of scope creep.

But doesn't that give the impression of being insecure of your work and results? wouldn't it be better to show more confidence at the end of the presentation, and breaking the ice in another way?

i'm with you on the icebreaker comment. i guess we all have to come up with a line that works for us. i think when he's staying that, he's being sarcastic (because we usually over deliver) that it becomes obvious.

Yes, underpromise - overdeliver. Simple but a robust technique that wins.

The interesting thing is that you can see a pattern repeating itself. Start with something small to tingle their enthusiasm and to make sure they get the story/idea from the start. Build up the momentum and end with a bang (in this case, the logo applications on large formats). This is also how, for example, the stylescapes are constructed, but you can use it in basically any occasion in life/business. Such a simple rule to follow and so effective!

I appreciate the "Psychology of Client Presentation", is there a Futur video featuring mostly Emily's part targeting behance / dribble / artstation style portfolio presentation platforms?

SUPER SUPER AMAZING! Really learned a lot of new things and made a lot of notes. @Ben I would like to ask is Emily's link removed or was it missed uploading at first place? As so many people have asked for it too. Thanks again you and Team Futur :)

Hey! I wanna thank you so much for this video! I'm working in a brand identity project as my Semester project (I'm studying Graphic Design, first semester now), with a real person who's slowly starting a new business. And yeap, I already sent him logos in png with no mockup or presentation.. Far from being disappointed with myself (damn, I'm only in the beginning) I really appreciate all your tips and they all make so much sense. This video really encourages me to keep learning and growing to become a good graphic designer. Thanks a lot you guys!

Like all the videos that feature you in it, this was really insightful. I go into any videos on the Futur without a pen and a paper, cos I always expect a step by step, easy to understand process, and you’ve done a phenomenal job of that. One of my biggest challenges have been getting clients to sign off on my designs, creating actual presentations, I never know what to do about the structure of the presentation, but now thanks to you I think things are going to change from now on. Thank you Ben, thank you the Futur.

I don't know why I thought this presentation is for the final design. I forgot that it's selling the concepts. No point in trying to sell something that is already sold. Currently working on a presentation using these tips. It's a bit of work upfront but I'll make it a template that I will reuse. This is such valuable info!

another question, what if you don't do a new identity for an existing company. what if I do an identity for a completely new company? (this question is targeted to "our goal is to build a new visual identity that...")

I have gained a lot from this. I like the fact that you have tailored it in a way that the presentation is short, gives the clients value which influence them to give honest feedback in return. I used to only present the logos but from now, I will be following the 5 steps of presentation which includes the mock ups. I cant' forget the one million dollar dude that should be the cost of design. All my queries are answered lemme prepare on hitting my presentation off the park. Salute Sir Ben, all the way from Kenya.
