I have been doing this for a short while and will get back on to post results soon. I have watched other videos but I prefer yours! Its about exercising muscles which makes the most sense. One tip for others is to keep your toenails cut short. If they get longer, they can get up against your shoe causing a lot of pain! I have Mortons with my feet, 2nd toe is longer then the big toe.

Great information and exercises. Wish I knew this sixty years ago when I "broke" my right big toe which took a year to heal as I did not see a doctor. The joint is now a bunion, which probably has not gotten as bad as it might have since I have been practicing yoga for 20 years, I do massage my toes, and I use some of the mentioned stretchers. I will definitely adhere to the exercises you showed.

Very informative, thank you! Was wondering what he said about Birkenstocks, though?
@mxpants4884 Жыл бұрын
That they don't cause the same problem that flipflops do (where I tend to curl my toes down to grab the shoe due to the way they go between the big toe and the rest, and don't secure in the back). I think I've had that happen with certain styles of Birkenstocks, but not the original ones that strap around the back of the foot.

A suggestion for others is Teva or other hiking sandals that have good arch support and the the side strap does not go across the big toe. I have found these to be the most comfortable summer wear. I do use arch support in my shoes but the last year they have gotten worse. I am trying to do the exercises to see if I can get any results.

Very good info! If you have osteoporosis, will manipulation of the toes cause breaks?
@mxpants4884 Жыл бұрын
I'm not a doctor. I'm going to say what you probably already know, which is: - if you can run it by your doctor / nurse, even if it's just via a message online, then do that. Especially if you have any loss of sensation that might compromise your ability to avoid injury. - don't try to match the range of motion he's demonstrating. - don't push it til it hurts, go slow and pay attention to your body both during and into the following day. - don't have someone else do it to you (unless they're specially trained and have extra experience)... you'll be able to react faster and adjust - just doing the motion (and not trying to push the range) will help you with awareness and I imagine that'd be good for your balance Again, not a doctor, just a random stranger who lost a grandma due to osteoporosis (from complications after she fell and broke her hip.)

This is a wonderful explanation and instruction. What kind of shoes should we wear? I wear FitFlops. I no longer have ankle pain since I started wearing them . It is so hard to find shoes that don't press on my bunions.
@polarevolta3 жыл бұрын
You need some barefoot shoes 👌
@mxpants4884 Жыл бұрын
It's a lot easier to shop for wide and extra wide shoes online. If your feet are big enough to wear men's shoe sizes (subtract 2 from US women's to get US men's, adult range starts at around 7 in men's). Maybe it's just the styles, but I feel like they run wider, and come in wide and extra wide more often. A good search term to use is "wide toe box" (the quotes tell the search to look for the phrase).

I have a very bad bunion on right foot that I has caused me little/no pain for decades. I recently fractured my 5th metatarsal on my left foot that took 8-weeks to heel. During the healing, I did Caroline Jordan pilates/yoga for a hurt foot (which I highly recommend), but generally my feet got little/no movement. Now, my right foot bunion has caused my big toe to push on the toe next to it and slightly overlap. Also, all of my right toes now feel stiff and achy... Your video will be of great help in regaining movement. Thank you! Also, you mentioned that you are not a fan of flip flops.... Is that true, even with flip flops that have arched support? Are there recommendations on shoes to look for? I live in Florida, so open shoes are vastly preferred. Thanks again for your great video!
@monaami5553 жыл бұрын
I think arched support does less harm but also does nothing to keep your arch muscles working, which may add to them getting weaker. But I am not a doctor nor yoga instructor :D
@wildswan2213 жыл бұрын
Stretchy water shoes. Add correct toes spacer. Don't use flip flops, esp with this problem. Look at how your toes move inwards when you wear them!
@mxpants4884 Жыл бұрын
He said Birkenstocks were fine, the problem is the bit going between your toes plus no other strap holding it on. It makes you tend to grab onto the flip flop as you curl the toes. Tl:Dr - open toe isn't the problem, but stick to stuff with straps on the back of the ankle. He mentioned Birkenstocks as a better style
