I called around and found a local locksmith that only charged ~$15 to cut two keys with no problems. Got 2 fobs on Amazon for $25 so I have 2 new working keys for about $40. Not bad at all.

Thanks man 1 of my 2 keys decided to crack and split in half luckily I got 2 new keys before it stopped working completely Got 2 keys from Amazon for $20 and got a local locksmith to cut both of them $20 total so I got $40 in 2 brand new keys

Thank you for watching. There are some computers like Autel that can duplicate a key or some that some locksmiths have. If you don’t have that I would pay the $75-80 (in my area) and make a spare, then make a 3rd after you cut one like in the video. My JKU has 3 keys, if I lose one, then I duplicate it. There are some other online sources that show other options I have not used.

At the end of the programming cycle for the new key, the red light just stay on and solid. It never goes out.

If you don’t mind, I’m going to go through the basic steps on this message, because it sounds like something is wrong because you said the light doesn’t go off. In total there will be three keys. Two keys are keys that work and already programmed. The third key is the key to be programmed, which will be your new key. When you put your first key in that is when you see the solid dot and then it will go away after 5 to 15 seconds. Then you put your next working key in, and you’ll see a red dot immediately appear and then disappear, and then you wait until it comes back but it’s flashing. Now the last step you’re going to take the key that is to be programmed and put it in, and immediately you’re going to start to see the red dot flashing, this is where you wait until it stops flashing.

@JohnsJeepGarage yes, I have done these exact steps 4 times. At the end of the 45 seconds of flashing, the light stays solid re and does not go out. I even wait another 45 seconds to a minute to see if it goes out and it did not.

This has repeatedly worked so I can only brainstorm causes. Low batteries on the fobs can be a cause. Double check to see that both operating key fobs work all functions without issue and batteries are good? The new key fob not matching the Jeep? Otherwise, it may be something to do with the Jeep key sensor and have a diagnostic run on it. I sorry this is not working.

This method is one where you have 2 keys and can program a spare. If you have a local locksmith, that is an option or there are some alternative solutions I have not tried online. But costs may be best with a locksmith. Once you get your 2nd key, you can use this method. Thank you for watching.

Without being there to help troubleshoot, I’m going to make a few statements that may sound like something you already checked, but it helps me walk through the sequence for troubleshooting. First, make sure that the two keys you use the Jeep and both of them can open and lock the doors. Follow the first step by putting the first key in and turning it as stated in the video but this time keep it in there may be five seconds longer. Then do the second key as shown in the video and see if it’s just a matter of it taking more time Before the light starts blinking.

Keys I bought on eBay only start, unlock, lock, and panic button. The remote start sends the signal and lights flash and all, but do not remote start vehicle. Had locksmith cut key for $10, and used Autel scanner to add new key into the system. Will try this instead to get remote start to work. Thank you.

I also have an Autel scanner, but just to share, I had the same problem when I was programming the key on one of our Jeep Wranglers, so I repeated the process again to ensure that the program took, and follow the steps in sequence one more time with that key, and The remote start worked without issue. It only happened when I programmed one of our Jeeps, and it did not happen with the other ones. You may want to try to repeat the process with that same key. But your scanner should also work. I am not sure which key you are talking about so let me cover all keys with this answer - 1st key is a key that you have that is programmed - so when you put it in and turn it, it will take about 5-15 seconds, then you put the 2nd key in as well, turn it, and wait until the red light turns off, but don't remove it yet, wait until it starts flashing. Then remove it. Then the third key is the one that you need to program. When you put it in and turn it the light will flash, and wait until it stops flashing. Could take up to a minute. Then it should work. If this doesn't work correctly, then the first thing I would do is ensure your first 2 keys have good batteries in them. A weak battery can throw this sequence off.

Yes. My method shows you how to do it without buying any program based plug in for your OBD2 Port. There are other videos out there where you can buy a module to plug in to duplicate your key, some using an App on your phone as well. This works for your needs but it does cost more money. Depending on the lock smith, you may just want to use them so you can get 2 keys. Once you have 2 keys, you can use my method shown. The reason I wanted to show this because it is the cheapest option. I have made the 3rd key for all of my Jeeps. This way, once someone loses one, then I can use this option to make the 3rd again as a stored back up and with a low cost. Since this method exists, I wanted to show it. I also wanted to highlight 2 keys are required.
