83 ft pounds is alittle light. I anti seize the studs and torgue to 100 ft pounds. Never had an issue and this is my 2nd Taco.

i get my tires rotated at DiscountTire, they said to not ever put that on the studs because the lug nuts will back off/become loose... it would seem the DT does not have a clue what they are talking about!?

@@efil4kizum I’ve used copper anti seize on my lugs for 20 years and never had an issue. I’ve heard it will effect torque though because it basically lubes the threads

I never tighten to torque spec on first torqueing. I start firm hand tight, then a star-pattern torque of around a third or so of spec, then again at an increased torque, stepping higher each time until torqueing at the final spec and then done. I'll just do 3 or 4 steps like this. Going immediately to full torque on one screw while the others are loose or close to loose will add an unnecessary, uneven, non-symmetrical pre-stress into the wheel/hub junction.

I just got a new torque wrench so I could put my wheels on right. I'm 61 and old school didn't say anything to us about torque when I worked at the gas station in 1985 changing tires. We just ran the lug in with an air wrench until it stopped spinning fast and then let it kick a few more times. (about 8-10 times) I could see the nut still tightening with the last few kicks. Who knows what the torque came out to. I like to think I did an ok job because I did have experience working on motorcycle engines and things that require a decent amount of attention to detail. I always prided myself on not needing a torque wrench. Never had any problems. As I get old I am learning to leave less to chance. I've used up about all my luck as I figure it. lol So the last thing I need is to go sliding off a mountain because my lug nuts were not up to par so I decided to get a Torque Wrench! yay I'm growing up!!! lol Torqueing at lower settings and then slowly increasing with the star pattern is the best advice I've heard since I've started reading on these things. That's really solid advice. :) I don't know if 4 steps are necessary, but the more the better. I would not go less than 3 for sure.

My owners manual indicates a torque spec of 85 ft lbs, which lines up with the 113nm that you mentioned. I definitely follow that recommendation for my aluminum wheels that use a washer on the lug nut as the contact point between the lugs and the wheels, but for my steel winter wheels I torque them to 100 ft lbs because they contact the wheel at the tip of the lug nut and do not use a washer.

I have a 2nd gen with the nice OEM 17" alloy rims. Are they hub or lug centric?
