How To Protect Your Family From Little-Known Car Dangers

Janette Fennell, founder and president of the Kids and Cars safety organization, is sharing several little-known car safety tips for families with InsideEdition.com. People need to make sure their automatic windows and gears are childproof. Fennell recommends installing a carbon monoxide detector in the garage. Caine Phlegar that was the unlock the door button. The one for the window is a switch that u hold down to make the window go down and pull the switch up to make this window go up. So I doubt a child would accidentally kill themselves unless the drive does it on purpose

Okay, you guys usually post things that hardly count as "news"... most of your content is either cute moments, random acts of kindness, or awkward and ironic situations. THIS was actually HELPFUL. THANK YOU for finally posting something that should be shown to everyone... especially those who might transport our future society in their vehicles. There was once a time when I was a child (about 5) that my aunt (who is only 1 yr older than me [go Grandma {or Nana as she had us call her}]) and I were alone in my grandma's, her mother's, car... this was when electric windows were just becoming a more common thing... I was leaning out the window when I accidentally hit the "window up" button. If my arm wasn't stuck in the window with my neck and my aunt didn't move my leg off of the "up" button then press the button to roll the window down I would have died.

You think that's scary, you should check out 60s Mercedes hydraulic windows. The 600 Mercedes had a 2200psi (3000psi in sport mode) hydraulic system that ran many car features including the windows and sunroof. They were powerful enough to crush bones. It weighed 2.7 tonnes, had a top speed of over 120mph and it had the loudest car horn in history. Over 120db, louder than a plane taking off! That should get lane hogs to move! What a car!

I dont know if you guys ever heard of this, but when I was little maybe five or six there was this story about a girl who had her head out of a car window and her hair flew into an other cars window and they rolled their windows up then their car went another direction and since the girls hair was stuck in the other cars window she was decapitated. I have the push to start ignition and the way I prevent from forgetting to turn off the engine is I keep the radio on. If I start getting out and still hear the radio when I get out, that’s my reminder to turn off the engine.

My suburban has door saftey where you open the back doors and push a lever. It makes it where the back door handles won't open the door you gotta open from the outside. It also has a switch by the drivers switches to disable all the other door window buttons. So only the driver can roll down the windows.

it is a horrible experience being caught in a window. I have experienced this while I was only 5. I stood my head out the window and next thing I knew I was completely stuck. Older window motors have plastic gears that break/strip when torque is applied. This saves your child from a guillotine. Most newer vehicles dont have auto up/down on any other window but the driver's for the same reason. The ones that DO have it on other windows have to roll themselves back down when they feel too much torque being applied. This is usually on higher end models, because of the extra cost. Then theres the mighty lever. That one never fails.

In my 2011 4Runner you have to open a panel and then pull a string to open the trunk, but you have another way out of the trunk, and you don’t even have to open 1 SINGLE DOOR, and it is you climb out onto the 2nd row.
