At age 30 I asked my wife (Musculoskeletal MD) how to relieve my recent knee pain. She responded “The cure for knee pain is to lose weight.” And I responded “Are you calling me fat?” and she said “Yes.” So I lost my recently acquired 20lbs and problem solved.

I was on a 5yr medicine to prevent reoccurrence of breast cancer! I began having joint issues but tolerated it because I didn’t want breast cancer again. I was done with the medicine 2017, my knees are worse than ever. I’m 75 and the best exercise is in the pool but pools closed many months for Covid .

I'm 72, run almost daily on the dreadmill at the gym. I take turmeric daily. REALLY helps. Somedays there is a little weakness in my left knee but nothing debilitating. During the summer, I bicycle 20 to 50 miles/day. So staying active, IMHO, is a major help. Also, keeping the weight off is a big help as well. I don't know if genetics plays as much an issue as does activity.

The problem for people with arthritis is the compressive force that muscle-building exercises place upon their joints. In conjunction with strengthening they need to use traction, or a tensile force, to relieve the pressure of bone on bone. One way is to attach some heavy ankle weights and dangle their legs over an edge of a table; another is to kneel with one leg onto a firm seat with a small rolled-up towel trapped at the back of the knee, to force open the joint. These methods afford immediate relief to most sufferers..

May I be bold enough to suggest #6. Tripped and hit my knees. Lots of swelling and limited mobility and range of motion. Was advised to buy a mini skate board. Sit on a chair with bare feet in middle of board. Roll board forward until toes come up, then back under keeping foot flat then return to middle. Do 12 reps 3 to 5 times a day. Could barely manage at first and by end had more range than prior to tirp.

I'm 31. I lost 90 pounds over the last 2 years and found a love of weightlifiting. However, I haven't been able to in a year. I thought I had a hernia, so I just went to only cardio, and twice as much. Eventually my NP told me, "Just stop. It's not a hernia, and I don't know what it is, but you have to just stop." After 9 months of diagnostic tests, it turned out to be a hip labral tear. I thought you were supposed to ignore pain if it wasn't intense...

In my youth I used to powerlift and would work up to 475 lbs squats for reps. Now that I'm in my 60s I have no knee problems. So, could you discuss what you've seen with powerlifting patients? What about older people who once powerlifted and would like to do it again, rules? What about younger people who are competitive? I've heard of a lot of injuries that could be avoided in competitive powerlifters that could be avoided that young people should know about.

Good video guys! One thing about the shallow squats. If comfortable (and performed with control) isn't deep squats benificial for you? Isn't it good to build strength through the entire motion? And isn't it good as a mobility exercise as well? I get that shallow squats can be needed if you experiense pain or discomfort going deeper, but do you recommend avoiding deep squats even if they feel good perform? I am myself doing deep squats when standing on a slant board as a way to keep my knees healthy. Should I avoid that? Thanks for the good content guys! 👏🙏

Lol, the only advantage to having to get up at night for bladder emptying is that it makes you move. It is actually helpful. The pillow squish I have to try.
@jeffreysmith2362 жыл бұрын
Having to urinate in the middle of the night indicates a very serious problem. When you are in deep sleep, iirc the pineal gland releases vasopressin which causes every cell to absorb water. Therefore you do not wake up and need to pee. So, you are not getting deep sleep probably due to apnea. The first thing to try is a good elastic strap around your head to keep your mouth shut. Breathe through your nose and your airway will not close. This also reduces anxiety. I went the CPAP route but due to my mouth being wide open it did not work so I got the strap. I quickly realized that with my mouth shut I did not need the CPAP. But I am stuck with a $600 CPAP that they would not buy back.
