Never miss a video. After setting up two new GMRS radios, I have one major concern. If I purchase two satellite phones, one for family in Fl(we’re in N Ga mountains), in a grid down scenario, will they be paperweights because the back up power to ground stations that authorize the call, be drained, thus making them inop? Like a lot of other parents and grandparents, we want to try and maximize possibility of comm’s with family in neighboring states, if things go sideways.

Thanks! What can I do to increase my fars? I'm only able to transmit for one far and maybe two fars on a good day. Which handheld units would give me the maximum fars for when the SHTF? Are there any handhelds that have a true 10 or 15 watts in the GMRS band? Some of those that say 8 or 10 watts only squeeze out 3 or 4 watts. I want to become a fars expert. When I ask a sad ham person they lecture me about radio theory. I don't have time for that sh*t.🤣

all handheld UHF radios have pretty much the same fars - the BEST thing to do to get the most fars is to get a good antenna, perfectly tuned for what frequency you're transmitting on, and getting it as high as possible above the terrain.

I have never said, in any video, that you do not need a license to transmit on a licensed radio band. You are confused. The UV-5R is a ham radio and the FCC says you must have a ham-radio license to transmit. There is also a GMRS version which the FCC says you must have a GMRS license to transmit on.

Yes! Here are the steps: 1) Turn on radio 2) Read startup message, then write it down 3) Squeeze the Push To Talk Trigger 4) While squeezing the Push Talk Trigger read the words that you wrote-down 5) Let go of Push To Talk Trigger 6) Yell upstairs for more meatloaf

I have a question for anyone who can help me: I have a UV-9R pro (or whatever the waterproof one is called), and I am trying to find a PTT (just the middleman cord) that uses the baofeng multipin connector (if that is indeed the name of it) specifically with NATO/military wiring. I have only seen one so far, from disco32, but it is quite expensive considering the radio costs about 20$.

Pro Tip: When asking a question about a specific radio (UV-9R Pro or whatever the waterproof one is called), it is best to know the actual, exact name/model of the radio AND it is best to ask your question on a video regarding that radio, not on a totally unrelated video. But good luck! Because at this rate you will never get an accurate answer.
