Another tip you may already know but didn't mention: Once you set up your Custom mode, pressing the SRT button twice will automatically put you in Custom mode. In other words, the car always resets itself to Default mode when you turn it off. If you want to get into your Custom mode quickly, just press the SRT button twice (kinda quickly) and, boom, your car is ready to go.

Best rolls for 392s are 2nd gear 40mph 3rd gear 60mph traction off transmission on sport. Track will shift the transmission earlier, sport will run the gear longer

My 550 has smoked the 392 several times. I’ve had the 392 and never took an L. Scatpacks are Dope tho but most bmw racers have at least the stage one tune which will gap a 392

Best way is to be in manual mode (shifter to the left) downshift to whatever appropriate gear/mph, then hit it, push shifter back into auto mode and it will shift for u. Better to do it that way

If you punch the gas pedal and release quickly( usually once or twice), the car will automatically drop gears for you to the best gear for that roll

You can also tap your gas pedal real fast and it will down shift for you to the lowest possible gear. You dont have to be playing with paddles or shifters.

These are the gears I put it in when doing runs in mexico: 1st gear: 0-40 2nd gear: 40-65 Just learn the rest of the gears bc nobody really roll races from 70 or above lol You can learn what gear to launch on pretty quickly, once you know what the 5 speed likes itll feel like a different car.

I use the auto stick bc I dont have paddles, when its in gear and I launch it, once it hits the redline it automatically upshifts. So all I do is downshift on the gear I wanna take off on and let the computer upshift on its own.

I used to use the gear selector to downshift like others mentioned, and then slap it back over. Found out that was the retarded way. Sometimes I'd forget and it would cut power unless I actually shifted lol. Like Tgrant91 said, I just hold down the left paddle and it shifts to the lowest gear possible. Great thing about that method is as soon as you take off it automatically shifts for you, nothing else to do. From a 35-40 roll I'm in 2nd gear. Just raced a friends N54 335i FBO/Tuned on 12psi and was neck and neck to 140.

I have a new T/A 392 with under a 1000 miles. How about rolling @ 40 MPH in 3rd then @ - 3rd beep paddle shift to second & full throttle @ the same time? If traction control is off will tires break lose? When traction control is on doesn't it allow better engine timing?

The point of down shifting is to get your rpm into the best power band. Dropping into second right before you hit it will slow you down and be hard on the transmission also unnecessary. just get into the gear that puts you in the 4 to 5k range and go for it.

Do you happen to know how to do this in the Vettes or the Camaros 8 speed auto, we’re kinda having a problem to figure out how to do that on Chevy, it did it a few times but we can’t figure out what exactly this is called to look it up or anyone that has experience in it, if you leave it in drive and you down shift, it puts it in M, it’s not in D anymore, it will hit the limiter if you don’t shift it manually through the paddle shifters, any help would be appreciated

John Garcia just activate your paddle shifters by pressing on them instead of using the shift knob. You will be able to use them to control your rpms and the trans will go right back to auto as soon as you step on the gas

Let's say I'm in 2nd gear (in manual mode) going 40mph, I honk 3 times then hit the gas. My manual mode will automatically shift up to the next gear for me without throwing it back in drive. No manual mode won't automatically upshift for you. You have to downshift using the paddles in order for it to automatically upshift for you.

Yes but don’t put the car into manual mode, make sure you use the paddles to set the gear then go and it’ll shift for you before redline 😊
