What would happen if you painted one with extreme heat and one with the 2x paint primer, not put the polly gloss on, but went ahead and sublimated? Would that work?
@atprints Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. So if you paint the tumbler with extreme heat or 2x paint primer the paint will stick to the tumbler which is good. However, the problem you will have is sublimating the tumbler. In order for a tumbler or stainless item or even if you want to turn an item into a sublimation product, the outside of the item must have that special coating that allows you to sublimate. In this case if you just use the paint, when you go to sublimate the tumbler you may see a little of the image on the white but will not bake in and will wash off in a flash. So this is why we would use the polygloss which would help. So you paint your tumblers, coat you them after with the polygloss, let them dry, bake them for a bit and then you can sublimate. I hope this answer helps.

@atprints Жыл бұрын
I am working on a video where you can use this process to sublimate onto the glass. My process would be without paint but I can also create a video with and without paint. However, If you just use the spray paint, you wouldn't be able to sublimate onto it. Remember the polygloss is used as an add-on to help sublimate onto items that are not sublimatable. I hope this answer helps and feel free to ask more questions.

This is exactly what I was looking for, I truly appreciate you for making this video because i wanted to be able to recoat my tumblers to use for sublimation again. I almost gave up hope but you brought it back. I will just be using Citristrip before instead of sanding. Do you have any advice against using Citristrip?? Also, I am concerned about the amount of white spray paint thats going inside of the cup. Any suggestions to reduce this paint inside the cup?
@atprints Жыл бұрын
Thanks very much for your comment and your support. I am truly happy you got plenty of value from this video. In relation to using Citristrip, if it removes the paint, that's totally ok. I just chose to use the sanding method in the video but they are so many different types of paint removers that can work. So yes please, use the Citristrip. In relation to the concern about the paint inside the tumble. Try your best to fill up the tumbler with cloth or even paper and make sure it is covered at the top of the tumbler. You also have the option of using tape to cover the top of the tumbler. I hope this answer helps and feel free to ask more questions if you do have more.

Could you just burn off the image via heat gun or oven, then spray with high heat paint? Then continue with your steps? If the tumbler image is faded to the highest point that it can fade off. Just curious if you would still need to take the tumbler to the stainless steel state.
@atprints Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. The method you mentioned could work but in my experience what I notice is that the oven takes forever with this process and the heat gun takes even longer. In addition, even if it's faded, what happens is when you apply the heat paint, sometimes the faded images start to arise back on the tumbler. So this is why I rather clean the entire tumbler and start fresh. Please bear in mind that different chemicals can be used to remove the old image. For me, at the time I preferred the machine.

I did your process, sanding, painting with Heat proof paint and let them cure for about 5 days. Today I applied the poly coat and it took the paint off the tumblers. I continued to apply and will dry and bake but if they do accept an image but it will have to be a dark, busy wrap to cover the lines in the paint. What did I do wrong?
@atprints2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question, for commenting and sorry for the late response. It would be great if i can actually see how your final result came out so i can have a much better understand but i will surely breakdown the steps for you so you can try again. Step 1 - Sand the tumblers Step 2 - Try to use a sandpaper with a little more rough surface on the tumblers after you have fully sand them. What this will do is give the tumbler that ready done prepareness for the paint process. Step3 - Make sure to wash those tumblers with soap and get off any greese, oils or anything that would be on it and leave to dry. Step 4 - You can apply multiple coats of High Heat white paint. I would advise that you give each coat 30 - 45 min gaps to dry before applying another coat. Once your tumbler has been coated with the High Heat paint and has dried we can move to the next step. Step 5 - Mix you polygloss solution and make sure that you mix it the correct way. Step 6 - Apply the polygloss to the tumbler, you can use a paint brush, spounge or silicon brushes. You want to make sure that when you are apply the polygloss with a brush that you gently apply it onto the tumbler in one motion. This part is very important. Refrain from painting the polygloss back and forth or left and right but in one motion from top to bottom and turn the tumbler until it is fully coated. Once it has been coated, make sure to allow it to dry on its own and look for streaks in the tumbler. If you are seeing streaks it means that you may have put too much pressure on the brush when you were applying the polygloss. Step 7 - After it has dried on its own, you can take a second look at the tumbler to see if you missed any spots and if so you can give a second coating and follow the steps from above. Step 8 - You can cure the tumbler in the oven or in your mug press. With the oven use 320F for 10 mins but you have to monitor it, so the tumbler doesnt discolor. To play it safe check it every 2-5 minutes. With the mug press you can use 320F for 3 minutes with parchment paper and light pressure. Step 9: Allow the tumbler to cool on its own, then apply your design to the tumbler and place it in the oven for 350-380F for 5minutes to bake. Step 10: Remove from oven after the time has past and take a peek to see if the ink started to transfer onto the tumbler before fully taking off the paper. I know the process maybe long but once you follow step by step and you practice, it will become natural. Important points to look out for is the temperature when applying the polygloss as you want to make sure outside is not to cold. Also to avoid streaks on your tumbler by using one montion. May sure to check the tumbler while it is curing so it does discolor. If the polygloss is left in the oven to long it will discolor. I hope this helps and feel free to write me if you need anymore help or have any more questions.
@orvillemoore66412 жыл бұрын
how do you avoid getting streaks when coating with poly gloss?
@atprints2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. The best way to avoid streaks on your items is to dip your brush or sponge into the Polygloss but when you are applying it to the item make sure to gently pass it over the item. If you apply too much pressure then there is the possibility that you will incur streaks. Another way that can work is to allow the item to sit after coating for 10 mins, then bake it in an oven or mug press.
@marlafoster8249 Жыл бұрын

Can I ask? If you sublimated and like the design but after removing the paper it's now dull, can you use poly gloss on top of a design? Thanks!
@atprints2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. If you sublimate a tumbler that came prepare for sublimation and it came out faded, and you want to re-sublimate it then the best thing to do is to either put it back in the oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour and let it bake until the design fades or you can sand it down, paint it, then apply the Polygloss after. But if you are saying that when it comes out of the oven and faded and you want to just put Polygloss to sublimate again it wouldn't work. It's a process and the tumbler would have to have that white base background first. I hope this answer helps.

To make it easier...you could place the tumbler in the oven at 400 for an hour that would release the original image..you wouldnt need to sand. However your comments are indeed correct and true and persons who are reading the comments can definitely benefit from them. Polygloss is a process and I find you have to be very careful with it.
