I've been following your channel for a few months now. You're a great instructor, hilariously entertaining, and super talented with a spray gun. I appreciate your loyalty to continue producing more educational content. With that said, the guy at the start of this video is so funny, that the two of you could start a spinoff channel. 😂👍

Very nice job .When I do these I like to get 3 spray out cards ,1 card with 1 coat of tinted clear ,the other 2 cards with 2 and 3 coats of tinted clear and compare them each to the original color to determine how many coats of tinted clear I need .I also like to spray a coat of regular clear on the blend edges before spraying the tinted clear it makes the tinted clear to sort of “connect” and blend in better and then spray the regular clear.

Love the idea and the tips you presented in this comment! Our new system uses a red tri coat in the base thank god. These jobs sure can be timely and so much solvent being thrown at the panel.

Really enjoyed that. I have a tricoat Ford Focus and its impossible to polish out any minor scratches without the colour going light as you are cutting through the red clear. Quite frustating, and means one day i will need a whole respray probably. So this video helped me learn. Curious you guys must be using Isocynate based 2 pack products, don;t you need breather fed masks for that? Or has the industry moved on?

Great video and very informative. I was wondering if it was necessary to wet bed the entire area for a reverse blend like this? Since the edge you are working against on the final blend coat is wet already, it almost seems unnecessary. I've done tri coats before using a wet bed but never with the mid coat mixed in with a clear- it's always been with the pearl mixed in a clear binder like the ground coat. It's been a few years since I painted in a shop and I'm about to do one like this in my DIY shop. TIA.
@MrDuLukes4 жыл бұрын
Hey Brian, I'm really interested of why you guys did the reverseblend with the tinted clearcoat. It doesn't make sense to me, since it might give you different orange-peel ( smottheness of the clearcoat ). I read you guys do use the sikkens system for tri-coat, I'd like to recommend preparing a few paint-cards with light grey & the colorbuildplus037/cbp039 sealer ( red sealer ) to colormatch easier and faster. You're doing a great job and your videos are fun to watch, and i don't intend to come across rude, but you might want to get further into your paintgun handling since it's somewhat for a diy channel. I.e. people new to paint tend to forgett to paint edges in generell etc.
@PaintSociety4 жыл бұрын
This video was made along time ago and as I developed the channel I learned that my audience has more do it yourself, so new videos are going to be more basic but in regards to this video we did a reverse blend because the outsides of the blend were going to require less red pearl where as the repair area would require more. At the time this job was done in the standox system and if it was done in our current system now it would be done in the normal Blending manner.

@theirishman0883 жыл бұрын
After baking for 25 mins wouldn't that first coat be dry? What type of consistency are you looking for between the dye coats and final 2 coats. Is it that tacky feel? 4 coats of clear seem like so much but it obviously came out really nice.

Pretty much the same process. I really hope these paint companies start to get away from a tinted clear and work the mid coat into the a basecoat mid instead. It’s just way too much solvent being thrown on the panel and takes a long time.
@robbyzieroff97755 жыл бұрын
@@PaintSociety I was just telling my paint rep this the other day. I spray ppg envirobase and everytime I spray a tricoat with a tinted clear it takes twice as long. Alot of waiting around. And it's not like you can rush it. Those solvents are something you dont rush. One of our painters at a different location sprays the tinted clear and calls it. Doesnt even put the clearcoat down. I dont recommend that but just shows how annoying it can be. Guys will do anything to speed it up. Even cut corners if they have to..

Robby Zieroff and who suffers in the end? The customer. I agree. If you don’t time it just right, it will pop. We couldn’t even bake our jobs, we had to just let the booth run or else it would pop. Thank god sikkens has it worked into a mid coat and it looks just beautiful!

How can you avoid the solvent pop in extreme heat? I’m a painter at a body shop and have been painting full time for almost 2 years now and in the summer on really hot days I experience solvent pop even with “95 temperature” hardeners which is the slowest PPG offers (shooting PPG DBC basecoat and shopline jc620 clear). I always allow the recommended flash times per the tech sheets and still have it happen. I have noticed it’s usually on bigger jobs and my only guess is that the parts I spray when I begin clearing are already flashed so quick that even though I have tried immediately jumping to a second coat on the parts I begin with after I have finished the last of the parts for my first coat I still have it happen. So it’s like no matter what I try to do as far as flash times it doesn’t make a difference😬 Ever since I consistently started having this issue in the summer I will go into work early in the mornings when it’s cooler and spray with no issues. But I was just wondering if maybe you had some advice on the subject and have ever had the same problem. Thanks and love your videos!
@PaintSociety4 жыл бұрын
Once everything is done spraying. How are you drying ? That plays a big role in solvent pop. You’re somehow trapping the top surface before the bottom dries. I don’t send to bake until about 20 minutes of flash
@JohnSmith-rb5um4 жыл бұрын
Paint Society we don’t force dry, our unicure booth isn’t one with a bake cycle
@PaintSociety4 жыл бұрын
John Smith just allow that booth to run and run until the paint dries. Also dial in your gun a touch. First coat doesn’t need to be full wet, if it has some orange peel and dry spots. It’s okay

How do I search for a painter in my local area that has experience in blending tri-coat? I have a 2019 camry that needs to be painted due to collision that has tri-coat paint.
@PaintSociety5 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for your inquiry. Blending tricoat comes down to paint quality and technique. Blending a pearl isn’t hard but takes a paint with knowledge. I would recommend going to your dealership that specializes in Toyota’s and see their recommendation. Being that I work at Acura, I am more familiar with their colors. In the case of your car you would want a company that has the experience needed to paint it.
