Hello, my dental hygiene was never the best when I was a kid and I've always had a hugeeeee sweet tooth to this day. My mom did not take me regularly to the dentist. The last time I went was about 15 years ago. I'm not afraid of the dentist, but I'm afraid of what they will say. I know I have tartar build up and my adult teeth on the bottom came in crooked and they are also very close together so it hurts to floss. I can't afford to go to the dentist and I don't have insurance. My teeth are relatively white on the top row, but the bottom row is badly stained. While my teeth aren't perfect, I feel like they aren't absolutely terrible. I just absolutely despise my bottom row of teeth. What should I do?

There is such a thing as brushing too much, but since two times is the minimum, three times doesn't seem too excessive. You’re by far the least intimidating dental hygienist I’ve ever met

My mother constantly made horrible decisions when I was growing up, so I didn't get to the dentist as often as I should have. By the time I had to enlist right after high school, my teeth were awful, because in high school we were homeless and struggled to have a proper place to do basic hygiene stuff. In 2012, I had a huge abscess tooth removed, my grandad paid for it (he just passed away at the end of October this year 😔), and in about 2016 I had yet another abscess that ended up falling out on its own. By that time, I was finally able to start going to the VA for dental (you don't automatically get the privilege of access to dental care, you have to have the highest disability rating, it's so stupid), and after the abscess fell out, I went to the appointment where they were going to remove it anyways. I think the dentist just removed the broken fragments left behind and that was it. I also ended up having to go to SIX different appointments in order for them to actually fix my teeth because they were so bad that almost every single tooth needed composite. It was horrible. I feel like a lot of these issues could be easily solved by universal healthcare, but of course, Americans will never be ready for that conversation.
