You'll have a great time! Another place you could visit would be Kodaiji or Eikando Zenri-ji temple, both smallish but really beautiful temples. The shoes were okay, but I wouldn't want to wear them for more than 1 day!

I went to the Okamoto Gion store last year! The ladies were so professional and quick in getting us dressed! The obi my mum initially picked didnt work out because there wasn’t enough length after wrapping so they changed one for her that worked. It was like $75SGD for the Nagoya Obi plan after tax but it was worth the price tag.

Women's kimonos are ¥6000, men's yukata are ¥4600, hair styling is ¥500 and the Parasol rental is ¥1000!

Do they do same day rentals or do we need to make a reservation?

I would always recommend making a reservation as it only takes a minute! Also, it's best to book an appointment as early as possoble so you can maximise your time in kimono. You can book online or call up (they speak english!) and you don't need to pay in advance which is great

Another thing which is cool is that you can go the evening before and pick out the one you want so the next morning you spend less time choosing and more time out and about in kyoto! Choosing always takes longer than you’d expect!

There are sizes for all at Okamoto, including those for bigger people. I'm 190cm (Very tall by Japanese standards) and there were plenty of options for me!
