How to repair a broken door handle on a washing machine

Specifically the Samsung WD8704EJA model but I am sure there are many cross overs with other brands and models. I also had to manually release the door with washing inside but did not make a video of that. I can answer questions if required.

Samsung handle broke, just like in the video. Repairman quoted me AUD320 to repair and replace. Bought the new handle online for $25. Net saving after watching this video….AUD295. Thanks for posting this!!!

The Samsung WF8704RSW is exactly the same but the white plastic door rim comes off very easily. Many thanks - You've done everyone a big favour. In replacing the prongs of the spring, I found it easiest to put the upper one in first. (Coincidentally, the video was even more authentic as your floor tiles are identical to mine.)

As a suggestion too ... put a basket of dirty washing underneath the glass before unscrewing the metallic looking cover. It caught mine as it fell out.

I replaced one of these last week. I ordered the latch from Amazon for £5.00. My problem was getting the door to open as the door was closed when it broke. I took off every panel to try and unlock the door. I managed to manually unlatch it in the end but it was an ordeal. Changing this part took about ten minutes, I took the whole door off so I could do it on a flat surface.

Great video. I need to replace the part that the handle sits inside as the bits that the spring clips into snapped. I can't seem to pop it out I can see it has x4 tabs but been trying and trying but can't get it out. Any ideas ?

Thanks for sharing and really detailed Video. I have replaced door handle successfully as shown. The handle was broken as yours. However, a new problem appeared after replacement. The door now cannot be closed. When closing door I cannot hear the “click” sound and door is not closed properly and machine don’t start. Anyone have the same problem before and have a solution? I’m guessing the door lock is too old and new door handle is too spring-ie so the lock cannot click into place?

My Samsung washer handle just broke. I manage to pry out the plastic handle and released the latch. I'll need to order a replacement handle. Looking at it closely, it so stupid of the designer that the mechanism that holds on to the metal hook is ....plastic. Of course it'll snap over time.

You missed out a rather hard bit - how did you get that middle mechanism out of the door? Can't do it!

I managed after a while. Did everything as you said, but then it was really hard to slot the long ends of the spring mechanism back into place. Struggled with that bit for over an hour and eventually my husband did it. The rest was easy. Thank you for the tutorial, I would not have done it without your instructions.

Navit Schechter sorry. Didn't get that on camera but from memory I unscrewed the top and lifted it off then unscrewed the front enough to reach in an unsnib the door. It wasn't too hard.

I used an old credit card pushed between the door and the machine to release the latch. You could also use some fishing line

Mine was already shut when it broke. I ended up unscrewing and pulling the top of the machine off and then the side panel. You can reach in and unlatch it from there. It was quite a while ago now but I remember taking the top off and loosening the front panel to get my arm in. Hope that helps

from memory, if you take the screws out from the external walls, you can slide your hand through the edge and unlock the latch from the inside.
