Brilliant information, thank you!! I have old 'globe taps' on my bath (the ones that point downwards) and one is dripping, causing green stains on my old bath, how do I change the washer please, and do you have any tips. Many thanks in advance.
@dereton337 жыл бұрын
Turn off the water, pop out the hot or cold sign then unscrew, or if not screwed then pull handle off. Unscrew or pull off chrome cap if you have one, then use a spanner on the large square nut , unscrew the top of the tap and pull away then you will see the washer which can be changed.

My faucet is very similar to this one but has a worn out domed rubber washer under a large domed nut. Normaly you can pop the plastic cap off the top of the handle and pull the handle off the valve stem to slide a new washer down. These caps are porcelain though and I don't want to break them!! Any tips for pulling the handle off the stem or getting a Porclein cap off?

Just plenty of WD

@dereton33 Thank you for replying so quickly! I had soaked the cap in WD40 before i went out to grab the new washes so hopefully it'll have had time to loosen up. I just really don't want to break them, they're irreplaceable.

Hi Al, I have to replace a washer on one of these taps, as the tap is dripping. Yours is the only video I can find with the same style tap. Are there any tips or instruction you can help me with on doing this? Many thanks Al , Sarah

Hi there. I have used so many of your videos to do small jobs and save a load. Thank you again. I've got the opposite problem in that I have an old brass bath mixer tap, the hot one of which has ceased up completely and I need molegrips just to turn it on. Do you have any videos that could help with this? Thanks

Hi, great and helpful videos! I have very similar taps, one has started to drip from the spout when when it's turned off. Could it be fixed with ptfe tape? These taps don't seem to have a typical washer you'd find on regular taps.
@dereton3310 жыл бұрын
AlexJenkinsonable You may have ceramic disc taps in which case that would be what would need changing. The PTFE tape will only fix the packing box where the spindle is. Al.

There is a screw under the cold or hot sign. Just pop those out.

Sorry but ptfe tape is not for packing nuts, its for threads. they make special material for packing those nuts properly. we have a graphite rope that works really well and last a good long time.

Yes hemp with boss white on it is my preferred favourite, but who has got that in there workshop or garage, Or your graphite rope.
