It looks fantastic, no doubt about it. The quick dry tool is quite amazing too. One thing that would've been nice to see is the final stage where you light sand the clear coat then buff it to give it that factory finish look. Other than that, a great video.

Spray from you to the middle then walk to the other side and spray from the middle to you. You never want to give it anytime at all to dry from the first stroke or you'll see a dry strip in the middle. It's a timing technique when it comes to chemistry.

Based on the facility and job at hand, this was excellent work. Primer sealer is excellent for uniformity. However, since this was a dark color, it worked out fine. Nice technique with the paint gun. Above average skill level here.

@4:02 Don't force dry paint with air. You will dry the surface making it harder for the lower coats to release their solvent. That can lead to more runs or solvent bubbles being trapped. Solvent bubbles look like soda bubbles

actually that all depends on if you are painting with all one in paints that are like spray cans since they have multiple things not just paint in it but also some clear in it and hardener but paint alone with a really good gun and the right pro guy to do it you wont have that issue.

And I'd HIGHLY recommend using a primer sealer before shooting the color on....it insures a smooth paint application with no "pin holes" showing up in the paint or other crap going on.

good job, I’d recommend wet sanding1500-2000 grit to smooth the clear coat out then compound it,clay bar, polish,and finally a wax to really make it perfect and protected.

I would have hit that with some two pack primer and blocked it out but still you did a nice job and the pay isn’t always justified to do all that. I can tell you have professional level skill but are slightly limited by your air. It’s testament to your skill level that you have adapted your spray style for lower air power but higher overspray/lower material transfer because it’s a garage and not a dedicated downdraft booth. You’d probably do incredible work with out having to worry about clouds of clear etc. Most guys spraying diy aren’t doing waterborne color or spraying clear at 30 psi, it’s a single stage at lower pressure, easier to manage in a tight space.

Even several coats of paint are translucent, not opaque. The different colors of the basecoat and clearcoat will show through under certain viewing angles. This is why you need a uniform color before the new basecoat / topcoat. You need a primer / sealer.

I used to fix this by sanding with 220 then applying three coats of 2 k primer surfacer then wet sanding it with 400 grit then painting it.Yesterday I saw this video and decided to sand it with 220 then 320 finishing it off with 400.all dry sanding. The only thing I did different is I applied one medium wet coat of sealer.Just amazed at the time and material I saved.Been doing it the old way for over 20 yrs.😲😲😲😲

I usually let it dry for 15 min between coats and no the paint does not need to dry 100% if it does you will need to scuff it down to add the next coat so not recommended to dry 100%

I`m a 70 year old lady that loves to see how you work with an air gun. I have a 2002 P T Cruiser and the clear coat peeled up in spots on the top so you can peel it right up. Its all personal preferance. Sometimes I bump the pressure up for clear just to help break it up. If i up the pressure, i back off the panel a little more.

Primer is an adhesive, for metal so paint can stick. There was old paint and primer and it was smooth no need to primer it. If he did. That could of caused a problem, the paint on the car could’ve been thicker than 12 mil and it can start peeling or cracking offf.

I did a quick paint job on mine. I used 320. A sponge and water to wet sand it. Then rattle-canned. Paint only. Why clear coat a four-toned 1993 Civic
