*Love it! Keeps the room very **Fastly.Cool** . The manual states it comes with a year warranty and 5 year part replacement. The compressor makes the typical sound...small price to pay for AC.*

Clearly explained, efficient editing, no personality distractions, emphasized safety (power off), and saved me money. Like a previous reviewer, I went to Home Depot and bought the replacement switch for $3.23. Screwdriver, a wire cutter, a couple of wire caps. Not a professional electrician, it took maybe 30 minutes. Thanks Big Time!

This is an example of a PERFECT tutorial. I would watch more of your tutorials even if I didn't have to fix anything. Nicely done and thank you so much for the instruction to fix a stubborn pull chain!

I am a single lady, so I have to do things myself. I've been doing the wrong kind of searches for a couple days, so I have been afraid to tackle my ceiling fan problem. But now, with a new search, I found yours and my fix is clear to me. Shew! My problem is the kitchen fan/light. The fan stopped working and it's surely been NEEDED for the last two months. I knew how, so I took it apart and blew it out with compressed air, but that didn't help. So I put it back together and did this final search that brought me here and you have cleared up my thick-headed thinking. SOOO, now at least I know how to take it apart and put it back together. I just need to get the switch. I won't get to it for a week, tho, at least. But at least I am not timid anymore.

Thank you so much sir. You did a great job holding the camera to the important parts and for talking slowly and clearly. Too many handymen talk fast and assume you know some steps.

I had the exact same problem in that my cheap ceiling fan / lamp combo had the chain to the light seize, becoming unusable. After watching this video I felt confident in pulling the thing apart and finding the snail shaped clicker switch. It was dirty and I hit it with some WD40 and lo and behold, it was working again. Thanks for making the video - it helped a ton in visualizing the path I needed to take in finding the part.
@hair66699 жыл бұрын
Thanks to your WD-40 comment, I skipped the trip to Home Depot! I thought I was gonna have to replace it again (replaced it about 2 years ago). Thanks for the video!

This was a huge help! It was flawless and quick. My globes had rubber gasgets that were old and brittle. They broke when I took them off. I replaced them with rubber bands, it worked well! I thought I was going to have to replace the entire fan costing me $70 to $100. The replacement switch cost less than $4. I followed you instructions to the letter, it worked great! Thanks much for this great video!

Looks great, and with a brighter bulb installed that’s all the light you need. kzbin.infoUgkxWF88GpljEn-0o34vtLFazEQ5h5Q33SjU As far as ease of installation- this was my first ceiling fan and it took about 3 hours because I had no idea what I was doing and also it’s helpful to have a second set of hands and a magnetic drill bit. Works great.

Great video, tackled mine in around 15 mins. Purchased light switch at Home Depot for under $4.

This is a really great video on replacing the ceiling fan light switch! I really liked the approach of cutting the wires of the old switch, identifying the top and bottom switch wires, and splicing in the new switch with wire nuts. The repair took less than an hour and the new switch only cost $6 at the local hardware store. Success! Thank you!
@AppleShampooProductions8 жыл бұрын
Just wanted to say thanks, man. Had this problem, and you really helped me out. Didn't spend a dime too because I had an old broken ceiling fan out rusting away in the back yard that I scavenged for the chain switch.
@gomerpal96169 жыл бұрын
Great vid, with the exception that the switch is a simple on/off switch. It doesn't care which wire is hot, it simply breaks the circuit. Thanks.
@brunolopez41173 жыл бұрын
So if I take the switch out and just put the cut wires together the light should work?
@atomictacco2 жыл бұрын
@@brunolopez4117 Yep, the bulbs will be lit all the time with no way to turn them off and have the fan running however.

Thank you so much! First time having to do something like this, and you nailed it! I used a piece of electrical tape around the “top” wire so I didn’t get mixed up. I also used an orange wire nut and then wrapped the bottom part of the nut with electrical tape for double safety.

fixed mine by spraying (carefully) a little grease into the switch mechanism. Might not last as long as a new switch but it saved me a trip to the store and only took a few minutes.
@sheilagaines85025 жыл бұрын
Your video is very good and straight to the point. However, the hole where the chain switch goes will vary depending on who the manufacturer is. In my case the hole for the chain-switch was "tapped," "threaded' so I could not just pull the chain-switch out as you did. I had to identify the wires (your idea), disconnect the wires and then unscrew the chain-switch. To put the replacement chain-switch in I had to screw it back in, reconnect the wires and finish the job. This is coming from a person who do not mess around with electricity other than changing batteries in a flash-light. Thank you for you video.

Actually, wire polarity shouldn't matter for the pull chain relay as all it does is complete the circuit. Also, if you no longer want the pull chain feature or want a quick temporary fix, wire nut together the two wires that connect to the relay.
@azannah7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that comment. I didn't think the wires made a difference. Almost was scared off when he said top wire bottom wire. My replacement switch isn't exactly the same.
@leonelverduzco31224 жыл бұрын
I kept thinking what do you mean, I had a non working light for years and now you are saying I can just connect "top and bottom" wires coming form the fan and that's it? It makes sense, but just double checking. My new switch has blue red and black so I was lost since there are only two black wires coming down from the ceiling.

I connected both wires and It didn't work. :(

Well done. Short, easy to understand and best of all, very similar to my fan-light. Thank you ! Only difference: my snail shaped device was actually screwed down into the base! Not push thru ~ but screwed thru. So, anyone in the same situation should remove the wires from the snail shaped switch, then unscrew/remove. Afterwards, screw the new one into the base THEN attach wires! : )

Thanks for the reply Troy. I've replaced three light kits and two light chain pull switches, which led to gross over-confidence. I had already cut the wires under the canopy when I realized a third lead was connected thru the canopy which I assumed is the hot or power lead. The leads on the old switch are colored differently from the replacement switch. The light kit has a white lead running to a cluster of 4 white wires leading to each of the four fixtures, and a black lead running to a cluster of 4 black wires running to each fixture. The presumed hot wire is from the fan housing. The replacement switch has black, red, and blue leads. Can I assume the black lead on the switch goes to power and the blue and red are interchangeable as to which cluster they tie to?
