Thank you for this (and all your) videos. You do indeed show people an easy, inexpensive way to do things themselves rather than pay for new things or overpriced services. I grew up very poor and my brother and I learned to DIY and think outside the box. I recently viewed a infomercial video doing the same thing to seats and their products were starting at $60 to do one seat with their "Magic" repair kit! I did the entire interior with your method and spent about $20 and it looked like a new car. I'm a disabled vet and if I can do this, anyone can. Thanks again, keep these videos coming.

#1 How long do you wait until you apply another coat of silicon? I think I need to apply another coat of silicone, so when you say add another coat do you mean to do it almost immediately or wait a day until it sets first? #2, Can you sand the silicon between coats? tanks.
@SweetProjectCars3 жыл бұрын
Wait until it sets, it may be slightly tacky, but that's okay. Usually takes 48 hours in 70+ degree weather. And remember the thicker it is applied, the longer it takes to cure. Don't sand between coats. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and asking. Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC

I have heated and cooled vented leather seats in my Kia Optima. The perforated area (lumbar) where the air comes through have some rips in them. The panel is about 12" x 12". I would love to use the silicone glue technique to stop all of the ripping but this would not allow the air to pass through. How would you recommend fixing that? Can you do a video to show that repair so the air can still vent through? Maybe use your technique, then poke each hole with a pin before the silicone fully drys, maybe after it drys?
@SweetProjectCars5 жыл бұрын
Roger Jimenez we do small areas on seats like this and poke holes in the seat before it drys with a tooth pick, but it is best to replace them

@Sweet Project Cars. I would love it if you can tell if these steps are correct. I'm going to be attempting this tmr. And would like to know if I got everything down. So first I clean the seat with 99%, then apply leather prep. Then I apply the silicone, let it rest for 24 hours. Then after it dries. Do I apply another layer? Anyways, after that I reapply 99% and leather prep? Then get into the painting process. Does this sound correct?

I have a question sir. I messed up somehow and had to reapply silicone due to uneven and application and also have blotches. Tried removing the silicone with many products and was not very successful. How can I correct this ? Keep reapplying silicone until is smooths out better? And if so how long to wait before running my thumb over the area? TY
@SweetProjectCars2 жыл бұрын
You are going to have to apply until it's smooth now, and if you are doing this in a hot dry area, you've got to be johnny on it! Make sure that your silicone nipple is cleared out onto a rag so that you are applying absolutely fresh silicone. Try to put enough at the beginning so that when you run your spatula over it you run out at the very end where you no longer need silicone. A couple of tips: 1. hold the spatula as flat as you possibly can so that it lays on smooth 2. as far as your ridges are concerned, use the back side of your finger to smooth them out (the area between your 1st and 2nd knuckle). Another tip is you cannot dilly dally with this because the silicone almost sets up immediately so you gotta move fast and efficiently. Hope this helps, all the best my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC

Roger Jimenez silicone air dries the best in warm weather so a hair dryer will not work very well. and not you do not need to use the 99% again as long as you have not touched it with your fingers. if you did then you will need to wipe very lightly with your 99% but only if the silicone is completely dry mike

@@SweetProjectCars i had to to knock down the ridges as you instructed on the video. I will use the IPA. One more coat of silicone after sanding and IPA then it should be ready to paint. Sorry I did not take a picture of the original cracking on this vinyl office chair.

Hi, interesting video, I have a query here, when this seat is finished and is used ie. if someone sits on it, will the fillings will not come out due to the fact that the leather and the foam underneath it had a flexibility to stretch a little or more depending upon the weight placed on the seat. looking forward to your comments.
@SweetProjectCars6 жыл бұрын
Jawaid Akbar Chaudhry it works great of course it does not work if the foam is showing through the seat.

I'm about to do this project. The only thing I'm concerned about is paint doesnt stick to silicon. I will be using sem paints and prep. Im just so worried it just won't stick.
@SweetProjectCars4 жыл бұрын
We have never had the non sticking issue, make sure you watch all 3 of the videos in the series, you will find all kinds of tips and tricks. If you are concerned about it bonding, in one of the videos you will find where you can mix 25% of your color with 75% of your silicone. Let that dry then you will find that your paint will stick even better. Thanks and have a great day! mad Mike the hammer SPC

So the one vid shows you mixing color with the silicone. Then the next shows you just spray painting the silicone without mixing. Which way is right?
@SweetProjectCars Жыл бұрын
Both work great, the reason we came up with the mixing of paint and silicone is because most people don't know how to get the paint to adhere to the silicone, so hence the video mixing the two to help out those that struggle with painting silicone.
