Man...I'm glad I found this video. Problems with my Briggs dying after about 25 minutes. Figured it was the carb - put a new aftermarket on there. Immediately noticed the bow or gap on the manifold. Problem was worse afterwards (old carb fit cleaner than new). Was driving me craze - found this and confirmed I had a problem. Going to use some Permatex HT gasket maker and hopefully it fixes the problem. Thanks for making this video.

THANK YOU! Without this video (which I watched probably 10 times!) I never would have had the confidence to try to fix my own mower. My older Husqy mower would run for about 15 mins and die. It was so aggravating. Long story short, after tearing it down and pulling off the carb and intake, I ran into the same problem with the warped intake. I added a bunch of gaskets, and still needed the RTV. I sealed that entire frickin intake with rtv and CA glue to fix all of the leaks. I ended up replacing the carb, and a breather tube as well. But I just ran my machine for 1.5 hours straight and it seems to be good so far. Thanks for showing me how to actually fix something!

Awesome video. My brother brought me a 46" mtd mower with a ELS 656 22 HP briggs and I put new plugs and checked for spark and good. I then took fuel line off and cranked and it was spitting fuel so good fuel pump. I took the little brass plate with 3 screws holding it on off and sprayed throttle body cleaner in there and cranked and it starts but surges horrible and smokes. When I try starting it back it won't so it must be the carb. Mower sit a couple of years and worked fine when parked. This video helps show me what I need to check it's a little different than mine but I think carb is the same. Thanks for posting.

The throttle cable moves a silver plate under the carb but it does nothing. What can I do to fix this problem?
@beesprojects26927 ай бұрын
Sounds like you have an issue with the governor, I’d check to make sure that all of the linkages are put back on the way they came off or that you’re not missing one. I’ve done this a couple of times when I removed and installed a carb just getting in a hurry. That’s where I would look, good luck. 🍀

Linkage issue maybe? Maybe the governor arm loosened and slipped? 🤷🏻♂️that’s all I can think of that would make it over rev. I’d check anything to do with the governor.

What engine is that? I have a Briggs V-Twin 407777 and it does not have the metal "shim", but the aftermarket carb came with it. Should I leave it out or install it? BTW, a 4mm socket will fit the outside Torx bolts.
@beesprojects2692 Жыл бұрын
I don’t remember the number and the customer had the mower back now. From what I understand the shim wasn’t put on earlier engines and was added later on to help with fuel issues.👍

Thanks for the video. I have been having issues at start up. it will start with carb. cleaner and stay running but it will only crank without it. I have fuel and spark. I am thinking it could be the auto choke?? it is a 27HP Briggs and Stratton on a Simplicity Broadmoor.
@beesprojects26928 ай бұрын
I am wondering if you might have some water in the fuel. Especially if the tank is above the carb, the water will settle in the carb bowl. It could also be the auto choke like you say. Could also be a vacuum leak. Check the vacuum tube going from the valve cover to the pump for cracks. If it is cracked the fuel pump won’t work correctly. That’s a very common issue on these engines.👍
@scottwidrick18358 ай бұрын
After cleaning everything and adjusting the throttle cable, I noticed a crack in the vacuum hose from the valve cover to the fuel pump. I temporarily put electrical tape on the cracked hose and that solved the starting problem. Something simple to look for.

I smell gas when parked. It spits gas out exhaust when first starting. Following your directions when I removed the fuel hose on top of carb gas ran out of rubber hose and continues to do so unless I keep hose elevated. Is this normal? Maybe fuel pump issue? Thanks
@beesprojects26926 ай бұрын
If the level of gas in the gas tank is higher than the end of the hose, gas will run out. Sounds like you also have a flooding issue. I would check and make sure your float is good and your fuel shut off solenoid is working properly.

Hi, what is the difference between intek v twins 18 20 and 22 hp . Can you make 22 from 18 ?? Thanks
@beesprojects2692 Жыл бұрын
To be honest I have never tried to do this but as a general rule, the higher the horsepower the larger the displacement inside the cylinders. I am sure it is possible but I’m not sure at what cost, it may be more cost effective to buy a larger motor instead of build it for that little bit of power. It could be a simple cylinder bore with new pistons and rings. Also as a general rule a smaller displacement engine can usually take higher heat for a longer period of time so by boring out the cylinder there is less metal and it can be more prone to failure. If you try this please let me know how it turns out. Good question.👍
@AKGaragezz Жыл бұрын
@@beesprojects2692 Hi Thanks for reply, i think they all have the same displacement. I was wondering if the difference only in the carb ?
@beesprojects2692 Жыл бұрын
@@AKGaragezz a quick search for displacement on an 18 hp showed 540cc and a 22 hp showed 724cc. I guess I just assumed that cubic centimeters and displacement was the same thing. I am almost certain that the carburetor would have larger jets to feed more fuel to the larger hp engine. I have drilled those jets out before with good luck but it was on a high hour engine that needed the extra fuel to run right.
@philliphall5198 Жыл бұрын

Rebuild the Carb. There is a number printed on side of carb. Amazon will send a kit tomorrow. Note: There is lots of extra parts in Kit. you may have extra parts. That's normal. The valve cover has the engine model number. That may help you also. Usually surging is dirty jets. Engine is starving for gas. I have fixed this issue many times.
