HOW TO REPLACE A MECHANICAL FUEL PUMP | Defender 200 Tdi

asimplyfab.life/ Today I finally get around to replacing the mechanical fuel lift pump that gave up on us in Croatia... A pretty simple straight swap made a little more interesting by the old hose connections... Although the electric fuel pump has done its job, I'd prefer putting things back to the original Defender factory spec.

Don’t forget to keep the priming lever in the ‘stow’ position. That is all the way up

Hi, it looks like your fuel filter is still leaking. You can see this in your last engine sequence.

nice job did you find out what the lever on the side of the pump was for? At a guess I'd say something to do with priming the system?

Yep, good question - and answer 👍😁. Nice that it is there... but rule Nô. 1 is of course NOT to run out of fuel 😁

Having the same issue with my 300 TDI will sure check the Lift pump but first check for air in the system. Thanx was very helpfull. Would like to know what the symptoms were before u fitted the electrical pump

Hi, as mentioned in the other video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWKmdaNqnriEg5Y) the engine just stopped. One minute it was running, the next nothing could bring it back to life. After some phone calls to mates and a six-hour stint on the parking lot we (the AA😊) traced it to the fuel cut-off solenoid.... No warning symptoms whatsoever! After 350 000km probably a fluke and not something that happens very often...🤞😅

@@ASimplyFabLife I was just looking at my old tools box yesterday found a 24 spanner and will be making that special tool for my 300TDi as well. The fuel Solenoid is not that expensive so I will order one and put in in the cabby box with the tool. U know if you have the spare the real thing will never fail. Thanx for the reply...I actually did watch the other video as well. Be strong out there and post an update on the bus build

You bought an electric pump to make it work and you still got the mechanical pump? Why not keep the electric pump and save?

Good point. However, as mentioned in the video, I prefer to keep it as 'standard' as possible with minimal electrics. And with parts costing €20... you can't really go wrong IMHO 🤔👍
