Edwin; video was a lifesaver. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get the fuse box out of the way. I kept pulling on the clip at a 90 degree angle to the actual release clip as shown in your video. One additional trick I discovered: once all of the cables are disconnected, I inverted and attached the hold down bracket to the positive (rear) terminal to make lifting the battery out of the bike a breeze. Thanks again!

Great Help!! I was having a hard time with the fuse box. The guy at the dealership was telling me I had to pull apart the two silver clips that hold the fuse box cover. Thanks again!!

Thank you, completely had forgotten the fuse box clamp. Your video really helped. Disconnect negative first and reattach last is all I’d add.

My wife just brought her new to her, 2015 Indian Scout. When leaving for work this morning the bike wouldn't start. I wanted to see how accessible the battery is and found your video. Nicely done! Very clear. Having done much of my own vehicle maintenance and repair I noticed one small part of your procedure that you might consider changing. When possible, always remove the negative cable first. That will reduce the possibility of arcing or shorting across the positive post to the frame if a screwdriver or wrench slips from your grasp. If a tool were to slip from your hand while removing the negative lead, it would be harmless. Well done! Jim

EK: Thanks for doing the video guy - it was really helpful - I foolishly left my key in my Scout - next time I went to the garage to fire her up, she was, of course, dead. I probably didn't need to remove the battery to charge it, but I followed your video and took it out. All charged up and back in place now and she's back growling like a big cat once again. Best wishes, A.

ONE MAJOR SAFETY TIP HERE!!!!! ALWAYS remember to disconnect the NEGATIVE (black) cable FIRST and then the POSITIVE (red). When reconnecting, POSITIVE first then NEGATIVE. You are lucky that you didn't see the sparks fly when you disconnected the positive first.
@revathiest3 жыл бұрын
I'm happy to be corrected by someone who knows better, but I do know electricity and I know that it doesnt matter which side you do first, sparks are possible. Current is current and as the circuit is being made, you can get sparks. There IS however a very good reason for disconnecting the ground/black cable first. The positive/red is the one that feeds the electrical components in your bike. If the black is connected while connecting/disconnecting the red, those sparks could send jolts of electricity into your electrical system. By ensuring the black is disconnected why dealing with the red, you will protect your electrical system. Sparks on the ground side still arent good, but the current will be buffered through the battery which will reduce the impact on your electrical components.

First, I love your shirt. Lol second very good video thank you. It’s getting cold here and I’m going to take out my battery and put it in a trickle charge in my apartment. I’ve been dreading it and putting it off because it looks like a hassle. Looks easier than I thought it would be. I had no idea how until I saw your video.

Thanks for the video. When putting the tender on the positive I dropped the nut so had to move the fuse box to get to the nut. I wish you would’ve shown how the fuse box goes back in, I put mine back in, it’s smaller than the one you have, there’s more room and it felt loose. I’m hoping it’s in there right lol. But your video helped me to install the battery tender to my bike.

Edwin, your video was a lifesaver! It gave me the confidence to attempt to remove the battery to charge up Andrew's Indian Scout while he was on a trip. When my Honda Grom needs re-charging, I just roll it into the lift and into my den to put it on a trickle charger. I can't do that with the Scout so when I came upon your video I was so happy and its running great now! mahalo,Misa

Mate, just wondering how much the dealership at Ashfield charged for the battery? Thanks for the walk through too. I own an Octane so this was good to see when I have to do the same. Another thing, do you go on any of the Ashfield shop rides?

Thanks for posting your video! I found it after I disconnected everything and still could not pull the battery up. I wanted to find out if there was something else to loosen or remove. Looks like it's just difficult to grasp and now I'll just have to wrestle it out. My Scout is a 2015, first production run. Should I be surprised that I need a new battery in 4 years, with freezing winters in New England?

Keyless fob sounds like a great idea! I think I'll do a bit of research into this one. Indian Scout's key feels a little cheap IMO.

What's the number for the battery, surely Indian is not the only supplier?
@EdwinKua6 жыл бұрын
Zaphod 206 hi. You’re right Indian is not the only supplier. But at the point of making this video it was either Yuasa YTX14AH-BS or an unmarked battery from Indian. I found out Polaris uses Yuasa batteries for their snow vehicles so they could very well be the same - just with a clean skin. These days there are lithium batteries for the scout. I’ll get those when the battery fails on me again.
