I liked the way you removed the hub. I spent 2 hours with a slide hammer and got nowhere. In desperation I checked youtube and here was your method of removing the hub. I tried it and it worked, it only took 10 minutes and was a hell of a lot easier and quieter than the slide hammer. Thank you and ignore the haters.

Multu mesc, prietenul meu! I grew up watching village repairs in Hungary. Improvisation is the key when you don't have Sears around the corner. I feel emboldened to tackle the hubs on my wife's E70. Have a slivovitz to a job well done. Bun Treaba!

A big chunk of the video is just getting the castle nut off that he buggered up. Air tools are a real big help. Even ratchets are a huge time saver. Needed for a job that big.

Always replace the dust shield when doing the bearings. Always. The handbrake pads attached to it, but it corrodes quickly and the connecting pin pulls out of the thin metal and you have to replace the bearing again when you replace the shield. You may get lucky and be able to get a corroded shield out later, but it's very difficult and you have to cut both it and the new one with a Dremel to do it. The shields are cheap - it's really worth doing.

Great vid! Can you advise which way the new bearing is meant to be pressed in? The new bearing kit i have has the same colour dust covers either side so i don’t know which side has the encoder in it for the ABS sensor to read. Can you help advise?
@ricky25163 жыл бұрын
Just scrolling past and the ABS is in the hub not the bearing 😋

Ok, but you should replace the backplate while the hub is off or the brake shoe springs can pull through the rust!

You sir. are/is a true mechanic and a troubleshooter. the minute i saw you resort to the chisel i knew you knew some tricks to deal with the obstinate bitch bits. I dont know if you are familiar with w202 mercedes. but i had wheel bolt head snap off leaving a blank round stem some distance before itscrewed into the hub. i chiseled the whole wheel down to the hub. a week later when the other front wheel did it. i just saved time and got the grinder on and a bit of chisel work to finish.

A wire brush some paint a torque wrench and oh yeah jack stands omg dude
@alextasarov13413 жыл бұрын
Definitely jack stands!! I was doing my brakes with that oem Scissor jack and torquing the caliper bracket was enough to lift/push the car and the car fell on my foot! I curled up my toes but the dust shield and rotor were resting on the toe of my shoe. It didn’t hurt so I thought it didn’t land on my foot but it must have bounced or slid off when I tried to jump back. If the other three wheels weren’t on the ground I could have lost all my toes. It was sore right at the base of my toes where it initially landed. Always ALWAYS use jack stands if you are doing anything besides putting the spare on! And give it a good shake before you begin working

This is by far the best video and/or tutorial I have seen on this job that I have to do myself. You can do this job using expensive tools, or you can fabricate your own tool.
