Thanks for the video! My son and I changed the struts on his first car today. Only 35k miles on it literally from a little old lady at an estate sale. Great car! Raised up the car 1 1/2 inches and quick dragging the mud flaps through a dip in the road on his way to work. I felt very confident to do this with your video having been watched several times by me and my son.

Thank you for loading this video. I'm planing to replace struts for my 1997 Toyota Camry but don't know how to get start. After watching this video, I'm sure that I can be able to do it myself. The picture and instruction in this video is clear enough for any beginner like can do the job easily. I used to watch other videos but as clear as this one. This one talk less and picture direct to areas that need rework only. I plan to do the rear too but try the front first then will start the rear. Thanks again for your video. This will save me a lot of money.

1 a auto stands behind their parts. I had got a dud front strut assembly for my 05 corolla from 1aaauto but I live in Canada and returning the parts would have been pretty expensive for me. The guy on the phone was remarkably reasonable and after providing some evidence of how the part failed they refunded the cost of the parts. Simply put, I will continue to by parts from them! They also have the most straight forward parts replacement videos on the internet! Awesome company!

Excellent help for changing Strut assemblies in the front of a 1997 Camry.
@lucidbarrier
@lucidbarrier 4 жыл бұрын
I did this today on a friend's Camry. This video was really helpful. I cheated and used an electric impact for the smaller bolts and a pneumatic impact for the big bolts. Lining the bolts up at the top of the assembly helps when you tilt it at an angle to get one of the bolts through the strut tower, then tilt it back flat so that the other bolts poke through as well. A (rubber) mallet is a must for the large spindle bolts for persuasion. The vice grips did help a ton with the sway bar link. Thanks a bunch!

Hi, the video is great, one bit of the info. The tourqe is 29 foot lbs, not 59 foot lbs , i sheered the bolt on the second strut. I did some research and several places, all say 29. loosened all of them at put them at 29 foot lbs. Again, the video is great. Thank you. I took off the stud on the old strut and put it on the new one. I didn't want to wait for a return and got the job done with a one hour delay.

Do you know if coilovers would provide more body height for a 99 Camry 2.2L? I have a steep angle at the end of my driveway that even with new strut assemblies all around, it still scrapes the bottom of my car slightly, so I just need an extra 1/4" of body height.

Great video! But just a word of warning about the stabilizer bar link - often it will not come off so easily and you will have to cut it off. So you might want to have extra links on hand in that event. This is usually the case in places where there is a lot of road salt that caused corrosion.

One hint. A 13/16 socket might replace a 22mm socket, and I just checked that it fits on this vehicle. A 7/8 definitely will. My oddball 12 volt impact driver set came with a 13/16 impact socket. Otherwise, I have put away (just recently) all of my SAE (inch) tool except for the square drives (1/4 & 3/8). Generally, with the larger sizes, there are always adequate equivalents between metric and SAE, if you have your old tools. Smaller sizes, generally not. But 8mm and 5/16 are equivalent. If you have a collection of SAE tools, what is most important to get is smaller size combination wrenches, sockets and allen wrenches. You can spend a lot or a little on these. If you do work only rarely, the stuff from that national discount tool chain will be adequate. If you intend to do a lot of work, you might need the better stuff. The home improvement chains sometimes sell brand name sets at low prices. But some discount sets contain tools which are just not adequate. Don't talk tools, or Santa Claus might bring you a nice shiny set of inferior tools which you will have to quietly exchange.

I did this on my 1997 camry when it was still alive. I was wondering how different this was for a 2001, and it doesn't seem so different. Mind as well bulk it and replace the tie rod ends, and the boots on the steering rack, AND go get a well needed alignment. I don't even bother with the inner tie rods.

hello I've got a 99 camry that has had suspension noises since i've gotten it, they're most notable on brick roads since they're so bumpy it sounds like metal on metal (it happens when going straight and turning, doesnt matter) and when going over large bumps the car throws me around quite a bit and the steering somewhat disappears for a split second, I changed the rear sway bar bushings and that dampened it some, when i jack the car nothing seems to be loose using the age old tug on various components test, ive tried every component related to suspension front and back none seem to be loose or banging around, the previous owner told me the car would need struts, hes no mechanic but he 'knows his cars', so, I already purchased rear struts and got the new one in the drivers side and soon will come the passenger side, from what i've listed has anyone got a best bet? (Also no play in the front or back wheels when tugged at 6 and 12 or 3 and 9) Thanks!

It could be a number of things. Check the lower ball joint, the sway bar link, the lower control arm, the control arm bushing, and the inner/outer tire rod. It sounds like a lot, but it can be done in a few minutes. Just use a pry bar and make sure the rubber boots on the ball joints are not cracked.

I got my front struts in with no issue, but now I'm hearing banging noises when I hit bumps from my front driver's side wheel. I didn't torque the bolts to spec too meticulously, could this be the issue?

I have a question. After one of my friend replaced timing belt on my 1996 Toyota Celica, the steering wheel can't easily turn like before. So I didn't drive it for about a year. Now it's harder to turn. Do you have any idea what cause this problem? How to fix iit? Any video somewhere I can check it out.

@@1AAuto thanks for response...I have one more question to ask....ive put on my struts but the only thing is the rear brakeline wont reach back into the groove of the new strut for screwing in...and im afraid if I force it that it will break....my question is does the brake line have the ability to stretch and extend without it breaking so I can screw it in with the 12mm?

Hello, I replaced the first front strut. Great parts and video, but newbie me messed something up. Bolts were tough, was tough to install the new strut(lining up bolts etc), both my issues. However once I got it on the car makes skreetching noises when put into drive or reverse and will not engage wheel. Anyone out there know what I broke? Which video should I watch next to trouble shoot it?
