Appreciate the links to the adapter plate. I think anytime you're servicing an exposed valve during any renovation or update it's smart to remove and inspect the cartridge; I'll be replacing the 1225 cartridge for sure since I know it's over 25-yrs (if not longer) since anyone touched it. Very informative video. It seems that Moen is migrating to the positemp system whereas I have several bathrooms with the old push pull (chateau?) housing so this video was very useful. Yes, @aubstowe, every valve has its own trim kit. In order to get a compatible trim kit for your valve, we recommend finding out the name of the manufacturer and purchasing the trim kit for the model valve that you have in the wall from that manufacturer.

Great tutorial, except he got the hold & cold reversed. Cold always turns to the right (clockwise). Hot turns to the left (counterclockwise). The shorter end of the Kingsley knob should point towards the left for hot & towards the right for cold.

I have a Moen Genta LX trim kit with the Moen 2510 Balancing valve that use the 1222 cartridge and I noticed that just like this one after the installation the handle is too far away from the plate. It looks awful! Is this is normal on all Moen Trim kits??

Not that familiar with the brand. Moen is the easiest to upgrade with out changing the valve so this is not the standard.

I have already spent way more time than I should have, looking at everything I could find out about replacing my old trim with something more stylish and finally figured out what this video shows - ie. using the Moentrol Adaptor, and even had already decided on the Kingsley trim. I just wanted to watch the video to confirm. I do have one question - I saw a number of comments from reviewers on HD and can also see very clearly on your installation, that when completed, there is a fairly large "gap' between the handle and the trim plate. Is that really designed that way??

Bit of a left-field question: I have the old Moen Chateau. I want to replace it and found this video helpful (though it's still difficult to search for trim kits that are labeled Moentrol, not sure what to do there). Anyway, right now, when I pull out on the handle to turn the shower on, the tub faucet pulls along with it. The trim plate has rotted open near the screws, so I'm hoping this is only because there's nothing to handle the pressure of a pull and not a larger issue with the pipes. Am I making sense?

I would suggest replacing the cartridge inside of the valve. You'll want the Moen 1225 Cartridge, which we sell on our website. It could be that your cartridge is really old, stuck and yanking on the valve. Yes you need to remove the spacer in order to install the adapter. You will not reuse that spacer because all the hardware for the new Moentrol trim that you’re updating to will be included in that trim kit - including the spacer.

Great video...EXCEPT the huge gap between the handle and the plate. If you're that concerned about aesthetics, then that should really bother you. It bothers me, so a video showing a fix for that (or possibly being done correctly in the first place) would be nice, thanks. Also, your camera person should be zooming in often to focus more on the work being done, and less on the person doing the work.

I don’t understand where your trim plate screws are going into? I have the same valve and once I screw in the adapter plate, there are no available holes for the trim plate screws to go into? The top right corner is open but it doesn’t have any threads to accept a screw?

You would want to make sure that you have the screw holes on the Moen Shower Valve Adapter Kit installed in a diagonal position and the trim plate should have the same screw positions.

Do you have the old Moen Shower valve which is indicated by pulling out to turn on and pushing back in to turn off and adjust left to right for temperature? The standard valve is the valve that will pull out to turn on and push back in to shut off and adjust from left to right for temperature. For the old plate, the screws are at the bottom and the plate that Moen makes now has the screws diagonal way. In this case, we would recommend a plumber as something inside might break and cause a big leak. It could be sediment or a bit of rust, but we would recommend to do it by a plumber so he can take a look at the case.

My stop tube sleeve had no ribbit or screw was on quite loose and was not joined at the bottom. Im assuming its called stop sleeve its the metal peace that is right behind the turn knob. I want to order the converter kit but im wondering if i should order a new stop sleeve if i can or if i should buy a new moen unit. My old unit front plate cracked up around the plastic knob i think the sleeve may have got damaged from leaving it to long and it getting stripped. Any suggestions i am a amateur. I’m trying to do this upgrade, but when I put in the screw that connects my handle to the stem, a bunch of water starts dripping out the stem. Based on how the parts are lining up, I would think everything fit together perfectly if it wasn’t for the leak. Any thoughts on why that might be happening? I’m converting an old Moentrol deep dish escutcheon with crystal knob to a flat style escutcheon with a chrome handle, and I’ve bought the Moentrol extension kit to make up for the less deep dish. Brands such as Moen and Kohler have different types of shower valves that require specific types of trims. So you cannot just assume that you have a Moen valve, any Moen trim kit will work. You must identify both the brand name and valve type before selecting your trim kit. It may be possible that your valve is not compatible with the new trim kit.

While these valves are essentially the same, except the Moentrol has pressure balancing, the screw positions on the escutcheon plate are not. So I would contact Moen for further information on the other trims that it works with.

You forgot there’s a nicer piece filling wide gap between handle and plate that’s wider and chrome. Also Kingsley offers a different kit including along with different plate so not to see much gap at all

If you slide the trim plate over the back of the round piece then put the round piece in place with the trim on it, you would not have to remove the alen screw on the round piece. Hope that makes. sense.

There is likely an Allen screw on the top right side of it. It's very small. You may need to loosen that screw before it will slide off.

so... I got the adapter and it doesn't fit over the stem which is about 1" and 3/8ths diameter. The diameter of the adapter is 1" and 1/8ths so it's a no go. The adapter model number says 145058.

You can only use Moen Moentrol trims. The other choices that you have, for cheap options, are those kits they sell at Home Depot that attempt to fit most types of valves. They come with a bunch of adapters and often get returned. I don't know that they would have these "universal" kits available in Polished Brass. I just don't recommend anything aside from the Moen OEM parts.

How do you take the cap off once it's on to replace the cartridge? I have the Moen Kingsley Moentrol, model T3113.

You can gently use a utility knife to pop out the cap on the handle. You just don't want to scratch the finish. Depending on how it was installed, the plumber may have even put some silicone inside to seal it so you may need to apply a bit more pressure to get it off.

The part that you are referring to is apart of the stop tube that comes with the Trim. For installation, you would have to remove that little piece and the Allen key screw head in order to install the stop tube. After which, you will connect that small part back and insert Allen Key screw head.

The Moentrol is the most "recent" iteration of the Moen Standard Valve. Both valves use the 1225 cartridge which has that push/pull feature to open and close the valve. I'm sorry for the let down, but this adapter kit CANNOT be used to convert a Moen Posi Temp trim kit to Moentrol trim kit. Posi temp will use the 1222 cartridge
