How to Replace Nissan Titan Transfer Case Output Shaft Seal. Mine was leaking and running down the driveshaft. UPDATE: this driveshaft came with a bad yoke seal which had me chasing the leak and thinking the output shaft seal was leaking. Rockauto wants me to put up $900 up front out of pocket for a new driveshaft while I wait and ship the old one back. When they receive the old one they will refund me. I also have to eat the shipping. Cost for shipping for me is $100.

Just confirm that it's not leaking through your driveshaft yoke before replacing the seal.

This was a good video. I attempted to do this job on a Nissan Frontier. I ended up screwing up the dust cover. I didn’t have good clearance to use a screwdriver to knock the cover off and since it’s plastic and rubber I screwed it up good. I also ran into clearance issues when attempting to use my big torque wrench on the flange bolts and the fill and drain plugs on the transfer case. This was definitely an adventure. After reading some comments I’m starting to wonder if the leak I’m dealing with is coming from the yoke. I just wanted to share some of my whoas when I was doing this job. Live and learn.

I am waiting to get the dust cover from the dealer. I will hopefully be reporting the job is complete and no new leaks. If nothing else I discovered some nasty black transmission fluid in the transfer case so the fluid needed changing anyway. Only 64k miles. I was pretty surprised.

This may be common knowledge but one thing that helped me get the seal seated evenly was a 3/8 in socket extension

Thanks for the great video, is the drive shaft heavy ? I've never tried this before and will be doing this on a 2014 nissan pathfinder it looks like my transfer case is leaking fluid in the back where the drive shaft goes.

You didn't show how the second part of dust cover went on. There are 3 parts... the seal it's self the plastic peace that is in side the dust cover and the rubber dust cover. Witch way does the plastic peace face?

Same way it was facing when you took it off. flat side towards seal.

Just did this to mine but I think I did something wrong cause it’s still leaking… maybe I didn’t put it in deep enough like you mentioned and the yoke seems to be fine took it for a drive and yoke was dry and where the seal meets the dust cap it was leaking

Check the yoke sometimes the seal will wear a groove in it that will leak.

What year vehicle? I have 2017 Titan SV, I haven't ramped it, but I cannot see the fill or dain plug on the transfer case. Thanks.

Can I just the outer seal only

The outer seal is just for keeping dust out it doesn't keep fluid in. If it is damaged you cab replace it only but if you have a leak you need to replace inner seal.

@@jameshawelu4916 light metal vibration. Only does it when stopped with brake on. As soon as I put it in park it goes away. Could even be a rock on one of the skid plates.

@@TitanTown yeah my skid plate was kind of bent with a couple rocks inside. Plus a lot of super hidden metal shields.
