I was looking for a video that would make it easier to clean the beater brush. It is not easy to remove the brush but the suggestion of using a butter knife as a lever and a touch of "brute force" really helped! Thank you for sharing.

Hi John, as mentioned in the video, we found the best technique was to use the object holding the belt in place as a lever against the edge of the brush roll housing, stretching the belt out far enough to get the brush in. While you do that, try pushing the brush roll in at a right angle to the belt, rather than pushing it straight through - the brush has a black plastic lip at either end which you should be able to work through the belt. Sadly you skip the most important part that I was looking for in this video. The end pieces of the brush roll are not perfectly circular and I'm having a hard time positioning them in place to put the cover back on. Thanks anyways good video

Hi Charlie, sorry the part was edited out of the video. If you haven't sorted the problem out yet temporarily try fitting the bearings with the belt off. This will remove the tension and they can be adjusted much easier enabling you to identify the correct method before refitting the belt and retrying. Good luck.

I just now had the problem of replacing the brush roller cover as the three screws would sit to secure; try repositioning the two roller ends so that the part that juts out is horizontal and the cover should fit to be secured. I hope it answer your question. And much gratitude to eSpares for saving me AUD$65 and inconvenience.

I love the access I get to hoses and traps to clear clogs with the DC33. I find that if I rock the roller clockwise (with belt at top) the belt works its way off, and counter-clockwise to put it back on. If you have difficulty getting the non-belt end of the roller down, pull up a little on the belt end.

I have replaced the clutch on my dc33 but there was still a slight noise although the brush was turning. I thought perhaps I needed a new brush bar, but now I have fitted it, the machine makes an awful noise and the brush no longer turns at all. Any further advice, I will feel defeated if I have to call out a Dyson engineer after getting this far...

From home experience I know if you push one side completely into place, the other will not go into its place without almost breaking something. Try inserting one end (I do the one nearest the belt) into its assembly slide for a few millimeters, hold it with in place with your hand & do the other side the same. Then apply equal pressure to both sides to completely push them all the way into the assembly at the same time. It's tricky, but once it's in place you will be able to lock the sole plate.

I have a question that needs answering, PLEASE! After performing what was done in this video I noticed something strange about my dc33. When the vacuum is set to bare floors the brush roll does not spin. But it does when set to carpet. Is it supposed to be this way or did I mess something up?

Hi Hunter Hobbs, check the brushroll and make sure the selector is moving when selecting the carpet setting.

Hi Richard, many Dyson uprights have a clutch mechanism that stop the brush roll when in the 'parked' position to prevent carpet wear. On the machine in the video this is the blue knob above the roller and it can be turned to stop the brush when using the hose.

We think the brushes should only just protrude Tommy. It may be worth trying a new brush bar if the vacuum has had a lot of use.

I've cleaned mine out and have a dc 33 and there is no suction in bottom very little suction through hose , well at first it was powerful now the hose.is like an ordinary vacuum so to speak , I want the power it once had , my brushes move just no suction on bottom I cleaned the brushes all up and am waiting on ever thing else to dry , do you think I need a clutch or belt ?

Krystal Smith The first part s to check are the air ways and bends in the pipes as these are most likely to block.If you haven't already check the filter and replace if required.The cyclone can also get restricted so if you cannot identify anything else then wash this out thoroughly and allow to dry before retesting.

The spinner brush ends do not slot in the grooves. Turn the ends sideways instead. The belt and housing hold it in. Spent 20 mins trying to slot them in the grooves. 😰 hope this helps

you need to show the brush ends. I pulled brush lose to clean and now I cant get it back in position to close. Does the skinny pointed brush go to the top .? You dont really show where it fits into so I can close bottom.

The 'flat' area on the bearing caps should be closest to the sole plate that was removed, this is perhaps more visible at 1:04

Ha, the one thing i needed was to see how to get the whole brush bar back in but you just obscured that as if it was no problem at all. in, its under the belt but seems jammed and i am afraid if i shove something will snap

+Simone Davis Sorry Simone we did not do that on purpose. Remove the roller and belt then 'offer' the roller to the housing. You can then locate it and check it turns freely. You can then go beck to fitting the belt with a better idea how the roller sits in the correct position.

Thank you for the feedback. It is not easy on the model I have. We have to send it back in for repair since it is under warranty and it is clicking. To replace the belt on my model you have to remove the entire drive housing. Dyson DC33

If it's clicking when you rotate it by hand then that's perfectly normal, if it is making a ratchet noise when in use, the clutch is jammed.
