Just cleaned up from doing mine, video was very helpful. Only problem I ran into was the rear exhaust bolt were rusted round, working on the ground I was able to just drop it on the ground, Only tip I can offer would be to make sure you have a 1/4" drive E-10, anything else will be too fat to grab the two recessed bolts. Took about 3 hours with a 1 hour gap in the middle to let the rtv set up

a few things to mention, (just did the oil pan last night) you can also hang the exhaust pipe down, it is not necessary to remove completely, the filler piece at the transmission side, not necessary to remove. the ear of oil pan at that filler piece is the best pry point to get the pan loose. in non turbo models of this era, there is also a hiddeb e10 bold just behind the crank pully, also in the same place there is a pressure release valve which hinders in taking out the pan, you can lift the engine up and drop the subframe by loosening 2 21mm bolts on the passenger side of subframe, and loosening the passenger side engine mount, you just need 3/4" more clearance to take out, and put back in the oil pan without smeering the fresh sealent. it would be great if you add a dab of sealent at 4 points where the crank case and timing plate meets (2 points) and rear main seal sets in (2 points) non turbo. I didnt know the 24 hours rule, i tighten them all at once i hope mine doesnt leak on me fingers crossed. overall comlete job took me amout 5 hours, including the cleaning, and 2.5 hours to get the pan pry open, once i found the ear, (:D)

Shops 100% do not wait to tighten and fill with oil. If it were a real problem I think you would hear about it a lot. Though I would just follow the instructions on the sealant.

With the 1.4L it is no problem to replace and get at , except for the exhaust. Now the 1.8L is another story and the subframe either has to come down some or the engine lifted to the max. Thanks for the feedback.

@@s33therfan Also you May have to pull out the oil pan again and make sure there is enough silicone on the pick up tube on the front of the oil pan and oil pump.Remembering that we don’t have a bolt in pick up tube rather the oil pick up tube is part of the oil pan.

If it’s just leaking out of pans gasket, why is it all over the bottom of the trans? Belts slinging it? Or just air coming under the car during driving sending it all over the place?
@s33therfan2 жыл бұрын
These cars have several leak points , from oil cooler , feed lines turbo, valve cover gasket ( never underestimate the mess they can cause) , plus the oil pan. The rear seal and torque converter seal also , but unless severe not worth the labor. Hope this can help and thank you for the feedback.

@@s33therfan I’ve had to do the oil cooler seals, main crank seal, valve cover gasket (like countless times). I’m struggling to pin point my current leak. I believe it to be the pan and was just curious if in this current video, it was just a pan leak. Im trying to make sense of where im seeing some of the oil. Another reason I suspect the pan is because I’ll notice after wiping it down completely, I will still get oil drips without the car running.

Hello so I have a 2012 cruze it needs a cat replacement but I've noticed the pan is leaking bad as well so I figured go ahead and do that as well. I have a question at anytime did you have to jack the motor to remove the pan? I few videos I have seen had to and it didn't seem like you had too
@s33therfan3 жыл бұрын
No I did not . I will say though these cars are super low to the ground and just the ramps did not work for me in the front. I had the rear on ramps and front on ramps and ended up lifting the front even more and placing jack stands while keeping the ramps for safety. Anyways this is a pretty simple oil pan and all went smoothly. Best of luck on yours and thank you for watching.

@@s33therfan thanks for the info. I’ve taken the cat off twice when replacing the turbo, and it’s a pain getting back on. I was hoping to avoid taking it off for a third time, but I probably won’t chance it. Like you said, I don’t want to smear the RTV when trying to put it on there.
