It seems that all printers are programmed to irreversibly shut down after a certain use time and to make even more money they shut down after a new set of printing ink cartridges are installed !!!

Great video but you forgot to show to remove the two top screws in the back of the printer in order to pivot the ADF and glass scanner bed. Other than that minor omission great video in how to open this printer.

The hardest part for me is trying to get the ADF and glass scanner bed separated. I found the two screws on the back close to the top, removed them and still it does not want to separate.

This device is difficult to access. Your video, with arrows and close-ups and various angles, is so clear and well-explained, I might actually replace my printhead.

I tried to clean the contacts of the print head. Still doesnt work. I assume there is failure date „written“ in the software. Bought a new printer.

U did the right thing ! All brands in US are designed to break down in 2-3 years of modest use, sooner for heavier use.

Thank you for the great Video. As Quinnxx mentioned below it is really important to remove the two top screws. I removed the printhead of a four year old 6700, cleaned it and installed it again. Problem fixed - Printer works :-)

What INFRURIATES me and makes me want to torture someone at HP? Is how EVEN though you have plenty of black ink it REFUSES to print if one of the color cartridges is supposedly too low...WTF?? Also in the same light if ANYTHING is wrong with printhead or cartridges? Won't let you even use the scanner?? I will NEVER EVER EVER buy another HP..or Cannon for similar reason! SCREW these greedy THIEVES

Try to check if the cartridges that are installed is/are not yet expired.

No worries, people. 2:08 Pushing the colored ring at lower part of each cartridges certainly will NOT remove the "ink" on its own--but the ink cartridges.

It didn't show the two screws on the back, which I only found out after I broke the printer trying to get the glass top off. Oops. I'll read the comments first next time...

thanks for making this...but i stripped the screw in the back so it went in the garbage. would be nice if they could use decent screws, and we didn't have to use a hex.

The top screws in the front were like...pre-stripped when I tried to do it despite using a T10 hex (all the other screws came off fine). Might have to give up =/

So. How exactly do I remove a hexalobe screw? My regular hex keys don't seem to work, I gather because of the curve of the slot in each screw. Google only refers to surgical implants regarding these kinds of screws.

Hi, I followed all instructions, replaced the printhead, everything is as it should be but I am getting an error message which prevents me from printing or scanning: "The print carriage cannot move. . ." and telling me to remove obstructions. I followed the HP video, checked everywhere, did a hard reset, soft reset, etc etc. I can't get past this and I don't know what I am missing. Can anyone help get this to work now? Thanks for your help.

You didn't insert the transparent encoder tape back into the encoder which is mounted on the printhead circuit board. Its an easy fix. The same thing happened to me.

As good and helpful this video is, I am stuck on the removal of the front panel shown between 3:19' and 3:22' - that corner on the upper right corner just does not come off and I fear breaking the plastic part using more force. The front panel is loose on all other sides, can be turned within limits but the right upward connection between the front panel and main body does not move. Does anyone know, what kind of mechanism holds there, it feels like glued in? Does not seem to constitute a problem for others doing this.

@@dienstagwicht This is a VERY common design feature of most modern electronics. Honestly if the printer is not working, simply pry it open despite the resistance. It won't destroy the printer, it will just make it easier to open the next time if it does break. The way these things "snap" together is usually a small plastic bracket that clips onto a raised pin-like tab that is on the opposing piece. The result is two parts that snap together easy, but don't come apart easy. Another method is to pry it open enough to slide in a credit card, and swipe the card while gently prying the plastic.
