Antoine Finch Awesome. All my friends say it's not worth it. Gonna try this soon. Any advice?

Have a good set of tools. Takes a day for a first timer. Cleaner, rags, an impact or an electric 3/8 ratchet will speed things up a lot. The fan is perhaps the most difficult. I prefer the trick using a strap wrench and a 18" crescent.

Antoine Finch WoooooT!!!! Congrats!!! I like it when people take control an do things themselves. You not only saved yourself some coin but now you got the pride of saying you did it YOURSELF!! Again congrats Bubba!!

Is the timing kit different between the 4.6 and 5.4 2v? Because finding the kit is difficult. Please help.

I am sure you have the guides crossed up. The shallow one goes to the left.

Are the camshaft pulley screws reusable for this 4.6 engine or do they have to be replaced when changing the pulley?

Is the cam holding tool only used for holding the cams solid in place when removing the sprockets??

I have a 4.6l v8 2v and im installing the timing guides and chains after everything was set to top dead center and i wanted to double check the rotation and I noticed that the chains go from loose to tight during hand rotation. Is this normal or did I do something incorrect?
@prosserdaqwerty8 жыл бұрын
Just so I'm clear, the crank timing mark must be at 11 o'clock AND the cam sprockets both at matching positions? Or do we start with the crank at 11 o'clock, move the cams to matching positions and wherever the crank mark winds up is where it should be?
@josephsmith25994 жыл бұрын
If it has jumped time how do you make sure that everything both the cams and the crank are in time before you put the chains on without screwing up the valves or the Pistons?
@dxta73604 жыл бұрын
Depends on how many teeth has jumped.

good video, thanks, I just did this job on a 4.6 2V in an '05 F150. broken guide on the drivers side. Put it back together and it still makes noise, now what? I heard an oil passage might be clogged? Maybe followers
@1AAuto4 жыл бұрын
+Terry Filkins We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c

@@Pneumamechanical Any luck resolving your 4.6 problem. I got a used car with same motor same issue. Lost all oil pressure. Started with cold start noise. Previous owner didn't change oil all clogged up. Two mechanics were no help. Pulled plugs, coils and valve covers to find out. Have either valve seals leaking on left cylinder head or left cylinder head gasket bad. No engine codes just low oil pressure light. Go figure.

+Nalt Harrington So, the tool shown in the video is a generic camshaft holding tool for a Ford. It's not something we offer, but maybe you could pick one up at your local tool vendor? Otherwise, your plans sound good for replacing those parts. We'd recommend you do the water pump while you're in there. I'll post a couple of links for the parts you listed. WATER PUMP: www.1aauto.com/engine-water-pump/i/1aewp00180?f=900792&y=2003&KZbin&CTA%20Comment&ATony TIMING KIT:www.1aauto.com/timing-chain-set/i/1atbk00100?KZbin&CTA%20Comment&ATony OIL PUMP: Unfortunately we don't offer this part right now. Sorry about that! Hope this helps!

Good idea to spin the motor with a ratchet before you put the timing cover on. Just in case you missed something on the timing. Cheap insurance.
