Not gonna lie. I've been an art teacher for over a decade and I have NEVER watched an entire 25 min demo of a craft/art technique...until now. Your humour, mistakes, and how you problem-solved, I felt, just genuinely showed the ugly side of "creating". The whole thing just felt honest. Which was really refreshing. (When you 'adjusted' the puzzle over the glued board and it crumpled ...oh man, how many times have we had THAT sudden "aw crap" moment happen.) Thank you!

What a completely perfect tutorial! Detailed, precise, informative. You explained WHY you did, not just what you did. That's critical, IMO. One suggestion- be sure to dust off or blow off the insides and outsides of any box that you've had in storage. Tiny insects, dust, etc can be dislodged and fall onto your project when the box hits the table. That tap can be just enough to loosen tiny particles. Same after picking the box off the floor, mid-way through the project.

Thanks Donna, glad you enjoyed the video. Great tip on tapping out the box before covering your art with it!

Thanks very much for posting this. Sentimental value and the artwork is stunning and well worth hanging on the wall. Thanks also for including your mistakes, helps me and others avoid making the same ones. It's great to see your other art projects hanging up on the walls in the background.

aw, that sounds nice, Irene! A lovely tribute! If you choose to resin it, just make sure you seal it well, I would seal even a few times, to really make sure it's the edges are protected and will not absorb the resin ... you don't want to get any dark marks like we did :)
@Irene-gq4jr6 жыл бұрын
What a lovely reply, thank you. I will heed your advice and test your method with an old, cheap puzzle I don't care so much about. It'll be a bitch if that comes out perfect first time though! The Libra puzzle is from this print www.josephinewall.co.uk/zodiac/libra.html - the artwork is so beautiful with such fine detail I really don't want to ruin it! Thanks again x
@Artresin6 жыл бұрын
oh that is beautiful - and being a Libra myself, I love the text underneath as well ❤️♎️. If it's a good quality puzzle, and it sounds like it is, that will certainly give you an advantage, as the paper tends to be better and glossier. It's the cheaper puzzles ( like our Mario puzzle ) that can be problematic ... softer, lesser quality paper that absorbs the resin. I would still seal your Libra puzzle a few times to be sure, though - best of luck!!

Awesome! I have a question sir! 🙋🏻♀️ I’m looking to put a sealed puzzle onto a serving tray. This means the elevation/runoff step wouldn’t be done. Use a little less resin in this case? Should I used art resin or table top resin to use as a good serving tray?
@Artresin2 жыл бұрын
You can definitely use ArtResin for this. You will want to adhere the puzzle to the serving tray so that it doesn't float up when the resin is poured on, then pour your ArtResin to coat. There is no problem with pouring into the tray, you can just pour enough to cover the puzzle and give you a nice smooth surface, then use your torch to clear bubbles.

This was the most fun tutorial I’ve ever seen! So many possibilities!Two questions: 1 - My Dad used to try to make paperweights and jewelry with some kind of resin in molds and set fresh orchid blooms into it. They always looked really bad after a day or two though and my poor Dad was so bummed! Is there a way to preserve flowers or other fragile organic material in the Art Resin, or is it just for non perishable stuff? 2 - The most important thing I need to know is what kind of blade did you use in the table saw to cut the resin? Is it a special plastic cutting blade with more teeth, or just a blade with more teeth?
@LilPoopsie6 жыл бұрын
Andi Cacciatore I think fresh flowers will wither in any kind of resin unless it's UV resin. But it's best to use dried flowers.

And I think any blade sharp enough will cut through resin as long as the resin is completely cured.

What do you think about sealing the puzzle with a clear spray paint before the resin? I guess I could do a test on some identical cardboard but I’m wondering if you have any insight? I’ve used your product to cover a slab of concrete to make a bar top and made a wood, metal and art resin small table. I was very pleased with the finish.

Hi Todd - glad you're enjoying ArtResin! I don't see why clear spray paint wouldn't work, but I would definitely do a test beforehand to see if the puzzle absorbs the spray paint at all, and how the resin adheres to the spray paint.

Nice video, I'll have to try it. I did have a question about sanding it down though. How much worse will the final product look if you skip that step? Edit: Is sanding only mandatory if I needed to apply a second coat?
@Artresin7 жыл бұрын
sanding is only for multiple coats so that the layers stick to each other really really well :) . otherwise there is a small chance the could peel apart in the future! no need for this is you dont have multiple coats :)
@susandixen3664 Жыл бұрын
@@Artresin Your video is exactly what I needed! Similar follow-up question to the sanding question above: If I pour one nice-looking resin coat on my puzzle and (fingers crossed!) am happy with the results, is a second resin coat recommended for some reason? In other words, did YOU pour a second coat because you topcoated the first layer with yellow paint to cover up some of those sealing mistakes? If your first resin coat had been perfect, would you have done the second coat? Thank you in advance for your help!
@Artresin Жыл бұрын
@@susandixen3664 Hi Susan, the second coat was just to fix any imperfections in the first pour. If you pour one coat and it covers perfectly, you can leave it at that! If you find that there are imperfections or areas that need fixing, you can simply apply a second layer.

I recently completed a Marilyn Monroe puzzle and found your video when researching the best way to glue it together. I’ve started working with resin in the last few months and your video inspired me to preserve my puzzle with resin but I have a question. I cut my board so that there will be a 2 inch black boarder around the puzzle. I plan to glue the puzzle down and then pour the resin. I want the edges of the board to have resin so I was going to let it spill over like you did. My question is this…will I need to put a temporary boarder on the edge of my board and pour thin layers so that it’s even and them do a final layer of resin to pour over the edges to cover the sides of the board? I really don’t want to mess this up!
@Artresin Жыл бұрын
Hi DeAnna, since the puzzle isn't that thick, you should be able to pour right over the mounted puzzle and just let the resin flow over the border and the edges of the board. Apply painters tape to the underside of the board so that you can easily remove drips once the resin has cured and place your board on some stands while pouring. Be sure to pay close attention to the cut edges of the puzzle when applying your sealer as this is an easy spot where resin can seep in.

Another question, and thanks for your time, can I use art resin to fill letters i had engraved in a wood project? They are about 1/8 in deep, I would need to sand them even and poly over top? make sense?
@Artresin6 жыл бұрын
Hey Jeff! Yes, absolutely, you can use ArtResin on your wood project! ArtResin and wood are the most beautiful match - ArtResin makes the grain and colour of wood simply glow. Now, because wood is an organic material and contains trapped air, you might want to preseal your piece and let it dry, before you apply the ArtResin. This step will seal the wood, and prevent it from off-gassing ( releasing trapped air ) which causes bubbles ( and even with presealing, I like to babysit for the first hour or so, checking in every 10 mins or so with a toothpick handy to pop any stray bubbles that might just pop up.) I'm not sure what your piece looks like now, but as ArtResin is self-levelling, I'm not sure there is a need to sand the letters down, unless that's how you'd prefer them to look of course. Good luck!
@jppahurirayify5 жыл бұрын
I wanna resin my puzzle but I don’t have this awesome shop to do any of this. Would you recommend I find a power sander to use in between the coats? Or can I pour the second coat without sanding it?
@Artresin5 жыл бұрын
You have two choices when pouring multiple layers: the first is to pour your first layer, torch out the bubbles, cover and wait 3-5 hours until your ArtResin epoxy resin reaches a jelly like stage. At this point, you can pour on your next 1/8" layer, torch out bubbles, cover, wait 3-5 hrs and repeat until you reach the height you desire. This method is especially handy when pouring into a mold or a dam. The second option is to allow your first layer to fully dry, then give the overall piece a light sanding and pour on your next 1/8" layer. Torch out bubbles, cover and let this layer dry. Repeat these steps as many times as you'd like. You could purchase a small hand sander or simply just use sand paper by hand.

@@doncherney8649 We typically purchase cradled wood panels that are already made. You should be fine with 1" and up. We always use 11/2 and thicker just as a preference.

What an Awesome project. How much money do you think it would cost roughly for resin/hardner to cover a piece 27x20? I have my eye on a puzzle but I'd like to know a ball park price on the glue

I'm coating a 38inch by 13 inch jigsaw and on the first coat my mdf board sagged a bit in the middle. A lot of resin dripped off. So I've rectified the bow but the resin is very thin at the ends of the jigsaw. Will the second coat level this out?
@Artresin6 жыл бұрын
Hi Fiona - ArtResin is self-levelling, so as long as your piece is level, it should even out. You'll need to sand down the cured resin with a coarse sandpaper to create some tooth for the fresh resin coat to adhere to.

Do you have to do 2 layers? Or was that just to correct your slight errors?
@Artresin3 жыл бұрын
You can do one layer....we did two to correct the imperfections.

two layers of the elmers glue maybe would stop the soaking?

Yup, you got it - multiple layers of sealant can be necessary, especially if you've got an inexpensive puzzle like ours where the paper is lower quality.

How long have you waited since you placed the resin to use the torch?

We recommend using the torch as soon as you're done pouring for best results :)

the craft glue won't create yellowing under the resin?!
@Artresin7 жыл бұрын
I guess in this case it probably doesn't matter as the puzzle is already electric yellow :) but if you would like to, absolutely, use a neutral ph white glue or sealant. Whatever you choose to use, just be sure it dries clear, or it will look cloudy under the ArtResin.

no this isn't an issue that we have seen!

Hello, so how many coats of glue would you suggest if you want to be safe, 3?
@Artresin4 жыл бұрын
Hi Hal, the key is to really press the glue into the cracks of the puzzle. You can try an old credit card to smooth the glue over the puzzle to help you get into the cracks. We also recommend applying the glue to both sides to really seal it before you resin. One good coat on each side should do it. Have a look at our How to Resin A Puzzle Video for more information. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmazY3Rsor5qfJo

We haven't been successful resining puzzles either. Have you come up for a solution to the seepage? We;ve tried multiple layers of white glue. We've tried multiple layers of Mod Podge which gets less seepage. We have given up, although we absolutely love the resin look.
@Artresin4 жыл бұрын
Hi Carol :) We have found that some work well and some don't. I think it really comes down to how well the pieces of the puzzle come together. We also do use a few coats of sealant and that seems to help as well.

@@Artresin Yes, thats been our conclusion as well; but how to get all the peices secure and tight? As there seems to be no surety to getting a perfect product , we have been content to enjoy unresined finish products. Its heartbreaking to have seepage on a favorite puzzle. Hpwever, I must say,your video has motivtaed me to using resin for other projects.. Thanks you.

If I have no issues with the puzzle do I need to do 2 layers of resin?
@Artresin3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kiki, you should only require one layer of resin, but it depends on how thick you want your finish to be. ArtResin will self level to a thickness of about 1/8" when poured, if you want a thicker finish, you can simply add a second layer.
