Awesome GM - heaps of tips in this one let make sure I got this right (1 If its bigger than a small car, DONT try and paint it in one go, do the roof one day then the rest.another. (2 If its big and you have trouble with dryspots you can Zig Zag / Use blending clear from another gun/ slow the reducer in the paint: Did I miss anything? Lastly about painting planes and things too big to fit in a paint booth. (of which I do a lot ie industrial machinery) ....at the airport job, do you use any kind of fans etc to create airflow and if so what do your recommend? Keep up the awesome work !
@TheGunmanChannel9 жыл бұрын
1. Yes I like to break the job up if possible on a respray however every job is different and you must be adaptable. I just resprayed a HQ ute and did roof and quarters at the same time because there was no mould to mask off. 2. Yes the blending reducer mixed with a little of the clear left over from the job picks up those dry spots real well. and yep you can set up big fans and filters in a workshop and even set up a tent to spray.

In the states we dont have many young skilled kids anymore. When u do base coat I do the roof then start from the left fender and go in a circle. For clear ill do the roof trunk hood then down the sides.

Great vids man and very knowledgeable on what you do I live in the US and about 6 years ago I went to a trade school to learn how to do this kind of work and you guys are right about the youngsters not doing this kind of work anymore, but like in my case I invested thousands of dollars where in these workshops they don't want to pay the kind of money you are worth where you could make a living and be able to pay off those student loans. So now I kind of just do it as a hobby and sidework. I also was curious to know on the vid you can't really see but do you back mask the door to fender or no? Thanks man for your time on all this work of art.

@TheGunmanChannel8 жыл бұрын
It would take an extremely talented painter to do that sorry to say.
@tullgutten7 жыл бұрын
I would say no to that, at best only on small parts. Just 6 days since I tried to respray the hood/bonnet on my car, I was struggling big time not to get tiger stripes because the paint is coming out too slow (dries before you go over it again) and not really uniform (Expensive can with fan nozzle) and when I was just about done it came a drop of paint from the can and ruined it because metallic silver cant just be sanded then clear coated. so ended up buying a paint gun but the xylen is reacting with the other paint and i still struggle to paint it without it wrinkling up in some areas, last time ever using paint can on any car that I want to look better than a trash can going to buy a new paint to use over it as a barrier that i know will keep it from reacting since it is hard to remove every little bit of paint from it, tried 2 times to remove "old" paint and respraying and has ended up sanding down paint for over 200 USD now just because that shitty acetone based spray can. Never going to use paint can on my car again. Hopefully done tomorrow And thanks to The Gunman for every video I have watched on tips for painting :)
@tullgutten7 жыл бұрын
Done the front bumper on my car completely with cans and 2K clear in can but is a bi##h not to get it loaded with orange peel, and it was around 15 degrees Celsius and still hard to spray without tiger stripes, too much solvents and little actual paint in those cans. I was wondering what needs to be done to old paint if I’m repainting same color. Ex. I need to paint a qtr panel that was damaged and will be down to bare metal. I have a good understanding of sealing, building primer, sand, the bc/cc but if the other parts of the car are in decent shape beside old and fade. Do I need to you a certain grit sand paper to scuff them up before applying bc/cc I would rather not sand them down to bare metal/ prime to paint the same color. Thanks

Hey gunman, the DeVilbiss gti pro i think sprays quite fast compared to my anest iwata bellaria i think. The supernova is pretty much the same as a supernova, it sprays flat and thin, not like conventional gun where it is wider in the middle and thin up top (spray pattern when setting up). I also keep getting some runs on the vk, its so hard to not get them. I was told if you spray 2 pack medium or dry no matter what, the next coat will turn out the same and that i should put the first coat on wet and the second coat wet also. I'm using high solids and was told 2 coats is ample but my god father who is a spray painter (retired) said 2 coats isn't enough if you sand it back, 3 coats would be better, what is your take on it? I'm using protec paints. I heard you said how you used to spray a car, what is the best way to to a full respray on the outside? I was thinking of doing it in the shed but i needa get a fan to suck out some overspray or use the booth across the road whenever it's free (which is never due to atleast 15 - 25 cars on average per week) plus they get a bit of stuff in their paint even though they clean the booths every week. Also what is that juice cut, polish product like? I have seen you use it in some of your videos. Sorry about the long message bro! Thanks in advance for your advice. Kind regards, Josh.
@joshnolte10 жыл бұрын
The W400 classic bellaria is pretty much the same as the supernova. I was meant to say that. woops haha.
@TheGunmanChannel10 жыл бұрын
Hi Josh I've never used the Iwatas much but i did like the W400 and can see why they are so popular, and your uncle is probably just old school from the acrylic days when they would put 6-10 coats of clear on then cut 4 off to get it like glass, and the juice is awesome the super c cuts up so quick I'd recommend it for sure.
@TheGunmanChannel10 жыл бұрын
so yeah 2 coats is enough even if you want to cut it

Gunman I've notice that you don't use a seal over the primed areas . any reason for that.
@TheGunmanChannel10 жыл бұрын
Do you mean a wet on wet or non sanding primer? if so I've found its not necessary using solvent base a small cut through wont rust or swell up.
@joshnolte10 жыл бұрын
The Gunman I think he was meaning with acrylic before you paint you put a primer surfacer on to stop the solvents from attacking the substrate. With 2pak Tony it isn't necessary because its all compatible and it's designed for it and it is not as strong as acrylic thinners. Hope that helps somewhat. Also i have found wet on wet to be very peely, not recommended on the outside of a car as it would look really bad. Insides can be done like that to avoid the sanding stage but you will only get a chemical adhesion, not a mechanical and chemical adhesion so i have learnt. Sorry if i have stepped out of line gunman, just thought i would say something from what i have learnt along my own journey.
@cam8136610 жыл бұрын
Hey guys, Well at the old shop that I worked at we never used a sealer over the primer. At my new shop we use Standox 15331 2k sealer over the primed areas. The problem that I'm having is where the sealer stop over the primed area Sometime it gets a dry spot . Then when I spray the base it goes on rough over that spot. I'm going to skip the sealer next time and see what happen. PS what do you guys spray over new panels before base coating then? Or do you just scuff the e-coat and then base?
@TheGunmanChannel10 жыл бұрын
Tony Camacho I know exactly what you mean and thats another reason i dont use the Standox wet on wet but back when i used Glasurit I never had those issues and these days I just put 2 coats of primer over new panels then a quick sand the next day as paint wont stick to the e-coat well. And josh your more than welcome to join in it was a good explanation and saved me some time Cheers.
