I was very happy to see this topic addressed. I just turned 70, and for the last few years, I have noticed a lot of the symptoms of skin thinning that you mentioned, particularly on my forearms- I often find actinic purpura and/or skin tears with no memory of bumping my arms. I have also noticed some little white areas resembling scar tissue that you mentioned. I knew skin thinning was common in aging, but I didn't know that there might be options for slowing the progression. I have bookmarked this video so I can watch it again, and plan to make an appointment with a dermatologist. I appreciate your videos because they are so full of information- you don't talk down to us, but you provide a lot of background, and you make connections between various topics. I know you put in a lot of effort to educate us- thank you!

Yes, AmLactin has a funky smell. I have discovered that the odor can be completely masked by adding the tiniest bit of any other strongly scented lotion. AmLactin is awesome. My husband has had five bouts of melanoma and his dermatologist is working to keep his skin hydrated. Oral DHEA and especially AmLactin have been very helpful.

I unfortunately was a multiple offender in respect to smoking, sun worshipping, not wearing sunscreen (ever)..I have only recently really been hyper diligent trying to reverse my now prominent sun damage 😫🫣.. at 47 yrs old! I will say that I am blessed with good genes when it comes to skin resiliency, and have seen a vast improvement particularly in my crepey skin on my hands.. which I never even thought to incorporate into my facial skincare routine.. along with my neck and chest. Thank you for pointing out the white spots! I couldn’t figure out why I suddenly had “scars”.. yeah, sun scars! But with your advice, I’ve really seen some real improvement! I no longer focus just on my face; every day I take whatever leftovers I have from my facial care and apply it to the tops of my hands especially. It’s working! Dr Dray, my skin thanks you 🎉❤!!

Amlactin is so underrated. I initially bought it just for the KP on my arms, but it also gets rid of rough dry skin on my legs, which is from years of baking out in the sun at the beach. I am a child of the 60s and 70s when sunscreen was rarely used. It's also great to use on your feet whether to treat calluses or to keep them from occurring. I only buy it when Costco has a sale and buy 2 bottles. I was in TJ Maxx the other day, and they had the 15% Amlactin for $9.99 for a 14 oz bottle. I couldn't find it for less than $22.99 anywhere online, so that was an awesome deal. I could only find one bottle, though.

Amlactin is an AMAZING product at a great price. Just mix 2/3rds amlactin with 1/3rd scented lotion you like and the smell is not noticeable. It helps with soooo many things not just skin thinning! Can even help with ingrown hairs by using before and after shaving or waxing 😊

I reversed my thinning skin (on my face) by washing my face only with water. It really completely changed my facial skin. I do a peel-off mask every 8-10 days. It works because I'm salvaging all the wonderful oils my body makes and utilizing them. The change has been amazing and I'm in my 70s. Do it. Don't waste money on expensive products trying to give you something that your own body is making--every day and night! Use a washcloth without rubbing too hard--you don't need to scrub.

@@lisa-4770 I do use sunscreen and I use an application of expensive Este Lauder dual-use powder. Using water does not give you a squeaky clean feeling, but that doesn't matter anymore. It bothered me for a few weeks. I do a cucumber peel-off mask every 10 days or so which is great. Water removes a lot, just does not break down oils--and that's what I love about it! I formerly used a very inexpensive Neutrogena sun protection cream every morning but they discontinued it. I now use an Aveno SP. I also rub SP50 lip balm all over my lips and around my mouth every morning. I do not like wrinkling around the lips! Grrrrrrrrr.

Happy Late Tuesday night Dr Dray and everyone! I needed this in my 71 yr old life! My skin on my arms and legs are like onion skin! Thanks so much Dr Dray for this much needed information! As a retired nurse I remember seeing my renal patients with uremic frost on their legs to which we applied prescribed Lac-Hydrin 12% lotion. I’ve been out of the field for such a long time I wonder if their still using that. Good Lord, I remember my mother telling me and my four brothers to get outside and get some sun, it’s healthy for you! The damage I’ve done to my skin by unprotected prolonged sun exposure! Wish I could turn back the clock at least 65 years! I’m 71 yrs old now! Where did the time go? Again Dr Dray you really take good care of your viewers with you life saving advice! bless you!

My skin issue/thinning began in my 40s and now any little bump or scratch causes bruising or serious/deep cuts that bleed quite a bit and take weeks to months to heal. I have recently gotten a new puppy who is very large and jumps on me in his excitement and he has torn my arms up, I was beginning to despair of ever having my skin regain some of its strength back. I have made of list of everything you have talked about in this video and am going to try them, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

I wanted to tell you since you are a dermatologist. My 26 year old sister had a very painful rash the past two years and she kept going in and they kept telling her it was eczema till finally a doc listented and they did testing turns out its a very rare form of skin cancer. No cure but he did tell my sister hes currently treating a patient rn for the same type of cancer and hes been symptom free for 9 years. But she will have to do light threapy and lotion for the rest of her life. Im very close to my siblings so it kills me inside i cant imagine how she feels. Shes already had one light treatment and it burns her skin so he told her wear sun block. She had two kids one 2 and the other almost one. And i cant help but think of them losing their mom. Im keeping high spirits for her i told her im always here for her. So for anyone who gets any kind of weird rash thats painful pls go in you never know. Anyway thanks for the videos drdray

As a girl I had to have cortisone shots for my severe environmental allergies. I developed a sinkhole in my derriere from the shots, which ceased at age 10. Between that and the port wine stain on my chest, the kids were merciless. The wine stain never changed, but the hole was still there at age 40. At 50 it *finally* disappeared without me doing anything. Thanks for the video. At 65, my veins in my hands are starting to poke through and my skin on my hands & forearms are starting to look like there's a network of dry skin just below the surface. So far, CeraVe diabetic dry skin is keeping it at bay, but I assume 1 day it will fail to work.

I also loved a good tan in my younger years. I was officially diagnosed with Systemic Lupus in May 1999. I’m not sure there’s much I can do for my thin and crepey skin at this point. I would pursue these two healing modes in this order (or concurrently, but the first one is much easier and also quicker to find):-- 1] A registered Homeopath ... 2] "Spooky 2" Rife frequencies (setting up and using it is a steep learning curve initially, but "Spooky 2" is by far the best company because they only charge for their high-quality, cutting-edge hardware, then the customer can freely access - via download - all the amazing energetic frequencies, which are updated / added to, roughly every fortnight). Stop listening to those doctors. Dermatologists deal with outside skin. You have to find the root from inside. Nutrition , holistic , herbs and supplements will thicken your skin. Examples: Collagen powders, MSM, Vitamin C intake daily. Even Olive Oil taken daily , a table spoon can help skin. And it has a boat load of health benefits. Try herbal infusions and whey protein. Do research to take back your health and stop solely depending on conventional medicine. Research celery juice therapy for health.

It works! I'm 62 and now when I go to my dermatologist for a yearly mole check, he tells me that he can't believe how healthy and beautiful the skin is on my body. The only thing that I will say in areas where your skin touches skin (like your breasts without a bra) in the summer I use Neutrogena Hydro Boost (Dr Dray recommendation) in that area because it gets a little sensitive, but the remainder of my body gets drenched in Amlactin. My mom was on oral steroids (prednisone) for around 10 years, which is an incredibly long time. Her skin became so frail that it would come off like a glove sometimes. She had surgery and when they went to sit her up after they pulled her by the arm and her skin on the forearm just peeled off. It was truly horrific. For years we were constantly bandaging somewhere, if not multiple places. On another occasion a fall with just a hard bump on her leg caused the damage to go down to her subcutaneous layer. I was doing her wound care and I’ll never forget the day I saw a yellow waxy substance and realizing what that was. It was really hard for her to live that way. 😢

Dr. Dray, always appreciate your information. I saw a tutorial where the person used AmLactin lotion so i purchased some. My arms were starting to look kinda old. It's been a year later and they look much better. I only use it on my arms. I took a picture when i started and a month later again. There was an improvement in that short time. I was raised on a farm and the sun was hot so we covered up and wear a hat, which i still do in the sun. You are not supposed to put the lotion on your face. AmLactin will help smooth the skin but it does not help loose or saggy skin. The fact i did not tan as a teenager i have very few spots i believe.

I have to give a word of warning about hyaluronic acid. I live in the high desert. Humidity is usually in the low teens, but twice a year we have a month where it can dip into the single digits. Well, I hit the big 50 and decided to start taking care of my skin better. (I know, it's late. But I'm trying.) I bought all of these 'anti-aging' creams. The results were horrific. I'd apply the cream at night and by morning, my skin was visibly more dry and wrinkled. I really tried to give an expensive one a serious try and pushed it for almost a month, but my skin became so dry that it was painful and red. I gave up and went back to my regular, cheap lotion. A year later I was determined to try again. I spent hundreds of dollars for the same result. I came across an article that explained that topical application of hyaluronic acid in arid climates will have a reverse effect. Hyaluronic acid moves moisture from wetter to dryer. If you live in a humid environment, the moisture from the air will move into your face. But if you live in a very dry environment, it'll move from your face to the AIR. That is NOT what we want. Every single product I had bought over the previous two years had hyaluronic acid as an ingredient. I tried to fix it with the dutiful use of a humidifier, but even with a whole house humidifier directly beside my bed, I couldn't get the humidity up high enough to work for me. Finding any kind of moisturizing or anti-aging cream without hyaluronic acid is incredibly difficult. According to the ingredients list, the Amlactin recommended in this good doctor's video does NOT have it. Yes, I've already got it in my Amazon cart. When I realized what was wrong, I reached out to my local community and found a dozen ladies my age who'd had the same problem, but didn't understand why until I spoke up and referred my small town to the article. Cosmetic companies need to advertise if their product is "hyaluronic acid free for dry climates." That would help many of us tremendously. It would also save many of us a LOT of wasted money, skin damage, and a bout of mild depression.

Have you checked your hormone levels lower estrogen can make skin dry - also find an intensive cream for for face & put hydroluronic on top after 15 min…or skip it…I had same issue live in Midwest but house may be in dry side…you can’t just put hydrologic on bare skin you need need good moisturizer vanicream? for dry skin first then wait a bit then use that…I don’t use everyday cuz I don’t always have time to wait & layer w/ sunscreen etc…& don’t use hydrolo if at night

Dr Dray, so glad for this topic, before I see a PS, I need to know what is best. As to injected cortisone I got from derms over 30 years ago for cystic acne lesions about my mouth chin, each and every dr. left me with cortisone thinned/damaged for quick calming of lesion. One said it would reverse as you suggest, but this this never ever happened adequately. My chin area has about 7 areas of thinning so as to be depressed/thinned even mottled looking in bad light. Plus one over my cheekbone that now looks like a crescent scar for aging. I deeply regret that I sought derm help rather than let nature takes its time rather than medical risk of thinning/damaging/scarring just to quickly calm a lesion. Now with aging, and the beginning of sagging cheeks means the sagging skin falls into the thinned areas making awful lines like a puppet to my jaw line aging me more. Injected cortisone to the face should be banned for how can that many derms not know how to safely use it. I would spend any amount to fix and have smooth back again. If I understand you suggest HA injection?; one has said fat injection, but the damage is hard to describe, sort of darkened patches of so thinly depressed skin. I feel I just need a single layer of (onion) skin put over those areas like grafting even. So glad you address this topic, I need expert advice.

Am lactin back in the day was prescription only. Then they made it over the counter. Since that happened they changed the formulation and the smell is absolutely horrible! Some people are saying the smells goes away after a while. I recently tried this again as I had loved this product and I was highly disappointed and returned it back to the store. The smell did not go away and I even put a perfumed lotion over it and you could still smell it. AmLactin go back to the regular formulation! I am 70 and have been on prednisone to treat PMR. My skin deteriorated to the worst I had ever seen it. Since I weaned myself off prednisone my skin easily bruised and tore open at the slightest scrape. I started on Silicea a silica supplement and collagen. I have had remarkable success with this. My bruises cleared up and I no longer bruise easily. The wounds healed quickly and my skin looks so much better. These results were achieved in a matter of weeks. Really happy with the result. The silicea can be applied topically as well. I had been applying it to my forearms in the sauna for quicker uptake.
