This exercise is designed to help keep your pelvis level when you go for a run, swim, or bike. Balance is key. We are stretching the glutes, piriformis, it bands predominantly in this exercise. Most people use their lower back muscles when they become misaligned & imbalanced. You will notice one hip is tighter for most people in this exercise. That is the leg that is working harder during your cardio. Do this exercise daily before or after your cardio and you will see a quick improvement!

Michael, Thanks for your question. Most leg length discrepancies are psoas muscle imbalances that hike the pelvis up on one side. In true leg length discrepancies, people that have scoliosis, or other structural imbalances, this exercise will prevent further imbalance from occurring. One side will always be tighter in these circumstances but you would not want these postural deviations to lead to further imbalance or improper biomechanics.

Wow this is a great stretch! I've been really tight in the hip as I try to transition from a heel strike to mid foot strike and none of my stretches were helping. This loosened me up right away I feel great.

Hi everyone, I tried this stretch out and it really does seem to be helping me! I have had a tight right hip for years due to my right leg being a lot shorter than my left. This stretch has loosened things up from my foot all the way up to my neck on the right side. Also, it has helped loosen up my right knee which has been injured several times in the same place due to its slightly inward development, again caused by the shortness of my right leg. I have only done this stretch a few times now so I have not seen an improvement in my running yet, but I have felt a looser more lubricated feeling in my right hip. Thank you so much for this wonderful stretch!

Thanks for presenting these exercises! Am just wondering when the best time to do these exercises would be? Would you do all (10) of them together? After a run? Or as a separate workout regimen? Thanks again.

I wish these things worked for me. As strange as it sounds. my best runs are the ones where I don't stretch at all and have about 3-5 IPA's the night before. 5k's, 10k's, 1/2 marathons...always better if I do nothing but run. I've tried everything, still...best runs are when I train like hell, take a week off and carb load with beer this night before.

I can run 400m at about twice the speed as I can run 5000m. The reason I can't run 5k at my max sprinting speed is because my heart and lungs cannot deliver O2 and get rid of waste as quickly as it builds up. It isn't my legs slowing me down, and stretching or other silly leg exercises aren't going to change that. Your sustained running speed is limited by your heart and lungs, not your legs.
