Also, a video on cleaning up bird shenanigans when you live in a small apartment would be super helpful. I don't have a yard and I have all carpet so spraying like this. I guess I could like tarp the kitchen cabinets and spray on the tile floor but any small space cleaning tips would be incredibly helpful, thank you so much! I love your mixture by the way, it's hard to find ones that are safe around birds. When I lived back at home as a little girl I was so nervous I ended up just using water and scrubbing my brains out! I swear bird poop never comes off of those cute little natural branches, ugh! Oh wait that's a knot in the wood, woops!!
@Rachelay856 жыл бұрын
TheGinojika I would use a couple different options. If you have a patio, I’d take the cage out there and take it apart. Then boil some water in a large tea kettle or coffee maker and dump it all over the cage. Wait for it to soak, and wipe with washcloth. You may have to dump water on it a few times more. But only pour boiling water a couple times. Regular warm water will work. Or if its easier, use your tub. Clean off all big chunks with warm water, set it in the tub, turn on the shower and let it soak. You can even buy a shower head the you can spray with. Then wipe clean with damp washcloth. After you clean the cage in your tub, spray your tub down with disinfectant spray and scrub clean.

You could just use 2 bottles one with the lemon thing and the other with just water but make sure the one with water is kind of like a hose if you get what I mean

Do you have any tips on how to clean parrot toys when you get the wood ones from the pet store since it’s sitting out there and getting dusty
@PetLifewithBec7 жыл бұрын
Very nice :) I just use 50/50 vinegar water myself. Also I really like drying wood perches in the sun to not only make sure they dry properly, but also the sun is a natural disinfectant :) It's amazing how much mess parrots can make.

I clean the paper to my conures and parrotlet every 2 days. I clean the grate over the paper once weekly or if it's disgusting before that. I use dish soap and a nail brush to clean them. Then I rinse them thoroughly and dry before reinserting. Once a month, I take a day to clean a cage at a time. It's been too cold here in the north to go outside to clean them. The birds stay in the living room and I go into the bathroom to clean the cage (my house was designed by a man because the bathroom is bigger than the kitchen). The sides and top are easy to wipe down and I use vinegar and water on a cloth. Then everything goes into the shower for a nice wetting down piece by piece, dried and reassembled, the premier cage being much easier. Then back into the living room and a happy parrot investigates. I have bought toys for my birds, and they get ignored. I make toys using stuff from my house and the dollar store, Dixie cups, plastic versions of those, paper and plastic straws, wooden beads, adding machine tape folded accordion style and strung on paper or jute cord. I stuff millet, sunflower seeds and wheat berries into the paper and paper straws. My birds love these toys and they cost pennies to make. I put 2 Dixie cups together with the openings together and use that to hide nutriberries. I make woven paper balls to hide nutriberries and also paper towel pieces with raisin, sunflower seeds and other goodies wrapped up and tied; they love these

Hi marlene! I was wondering, for the concoction that you made, what are the measurements that you used? Like, what kind of concentration does the lemon and baking soda has to be to be effective?
@tupecktherappingparrot43456 жыл бұрын
Dinepine I would say google it. We use this too & as well as ACV Vinegar water. Both work great for muck & don’t tend to harm things. I think Everybirdie probably does it it lil but different. As u can tell, u don’t need too much. Our only problem is the bottles... they break so easily where we get them, we have to replace them frequently. Lol.

Jewel, my cockatiel, was a small bird and she knew how to make a big mess in her cage. She turned it into an art form. Every morning, she would get on a high perch closest to the front, turn herself around and go poo. It would run down the front bars of her cage, getting the inside and outside messy. I swear she was doing it on purpose.

Baking soda is alkaline, lemon juice is acidic....these would cancel each other out, mixing acid with an alkaline equals neutral (depending on % of mix). You are kind of using expensive water... BUT good water....

Have you ever heard of F-10 ? It's a bird safe and animal safe disinfectant. Northern Parrots sells it but you may be able to find it in the USA. Many zoos use it as it's safe enough to disinfect surgical equipment. It has many uses. We use it as a disinfecting solution for cat litter boxes.

Because sometimes it looks like a toy or something hit my birds eye and i know eyes heal but they have to be able to fly and eat and sight is needed. So i guess I might just be someone who is too careful, OCD, or full of anxiety because i always worry about their sight. Is there a true reason to worry about little things that happen

"Household Hazards for Parrots" around 5:30 she starts talking about air fresheners, candles, incense and says essential oils at 6:30. She doesn't say you have to stop using the essential oils, just don't use them around your bird or before handling because the oils can get in their feathers or can consume it. So just be careful.
