The user manual for my 2005 says not to use the pumpkin to lift the vehicle! So is that different for the other years of s197?

He advises using the K member as a jacking point, but on some Mustang forums it's advised precisely against using the tail end of the k member because it can warp and distort. I've gotten nothing but mixed messages reading and viewing different articles and videos.

There is no issue using the center of the K member to jack it up, if you use the outward edges you can possibly damage them.

@@AutoYoung Just an update I have tried the method in the video and realized it's just so people don't screw up their diff cover by using the rear diff as a jack point. Also no, I got burned once by a mechanic and out of sheer spite I have only ever worked on my own cars since then, and with great success, I only go to get tires changed at this point.

I agree completely with you. The owners Guide specifically states the rear differential NEVER should be used as a jacking point, yet this video and multiple others on UTube are instructing their viewers that's its a safe procedure when actually it's clearly very dangerous!

If you don't know, he's talking about Harbor Freight. HF makes cheap tools that generally work fine, but never buy anything from there that can actually kill you, so that'd include jack stands and strut compressors.

Thank you, I like to do my own oil and this is the first time I’ve had a vehicle doing my own where it wasn’t high enough by default lol. So if I just chalk the rear wheels, use the jack stands and keep the jack in place in front I should be good right? Have this irrational fear of shit failing lol
@warriorsmustang1784
@warriorsmustang1784 2 ай бұрын
All I do for oil changes is drive up onto a set of Harbor freight ramps and chalk the rear wheels. It's plenty of height to get to the drain plug and filter. It's much faster than jacking it up

There was an issue a few years back with some Harbor Freight jackstands being recalled for failing, that is what I was referring to. Most major brands like big red, sunex, performance tool, etc make good ones.

The Mustang Owner's Guide specifically states NEVER use the rear differential as a jacking point! The gentleman in this video is advising people to jack up the rear end of a Mustang by using the rear differential. Its dangerous and the incorrect procedure. Reference-2008 Mustang Owners Guide; (Roadside Emergencies) page 200 2nd paragraph. There are multiple instructional videos on UTube giving incorrect and dangerous advice by telling viewers to use the rear differential as a jacking point. The rear differential is not part of the frame of a vehicle therefore it should not be used as a jacking point or serious injury could occur.
