The duct tape hack is AMAZING! I had a set of chairs I was dreading refinishing because of the spindles. This trick worked so well and it was quicker than using an electrical sander! Thank you so much!

I loved the tactical tips in this video! And the (almost?) finished look is so beautiful and worth the effort. I was just confused when you started using the paint. Did you wipe that back after you applied it? The whole video I was thinking, “this is my favorite video ever! It’s so nerdy.” 😂 but then it seemed like it ended abruptly with the paint wash and idk what the actual finish looked like. Thank you for the tips though!! 👏

I landed here on a search on how to deal with wooden drawer pulls - I'm sanding an old desk down but don't want to replace the original round drawer pulls - but they are incredibly hard to sand off the old crud. Maybe the dremel trick would work I can secure it in a vice with the screw and work around it....hopefully. Anyway, your content is great also especially appreciate the duct tape hack!

Curious when you would use a stripper followed by one-time finishing sand, Vs sanding coarse grit, then finer grit? I’ve only ever use a stripper and then gave a finishing sand

I use stripper when the topcoat or paint is thick or has been applied in layers. If it's a think factory finish or stain, I will sand it off. :)

I created a paint wash using 50% paint and 50% water - then applied it to the sanded raw wood on the table. Then wiped it off with a shop towel. It's a paint wash effect giving the wood a nice light 'stain' but you can still see all the beautiful grain through it. I have a more detailed video on whitewashing when I transformed this dining table here kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5y8aKOLnqqWjpo :)

Thank you soooo much for these valuable tips!! As someone who can’t really justify spending over $500 on a SurfPrep sander (although I’d love one), I find your video to be so incredibly helpful. Life changing, given the amount of time I’ve spent on past pieces. (The duck tape method is genius and I’ve got all the others in my Amazon cart. Can’t wait to try each one). Question, which one of these options above would you use on rounded/bun style furniture feet? Thanks again. I’m a new subscriber and ca f wait to see what else I’m able to learn from you. (Loooove your voice too!! It’s so soothing. Lol)
@SalvagedInspirations
@SalvagedInspirations Жыл бұрын
If you bought them all - try them ALL on the bun feet! What I prefer might not be what you prefer and a lot depends on the finish you're working with as well. If you have some time, I'd LOVE to hear which one works best for you. :) And thanks for the kindness on the voice Kristen! XOXO

The issue with your sanding is going cross grain on the spindles. This will leave scratches that are visible especially on nice stained furniture.

Why?
@TrinaBurmeister
@TrinaBurmeister 8 ай бұрын
@@izadaniel8520 I'm referring to the blue sheet sander used on the table top in the beginning. Those sheet sanders need to be used slowly, directly forwards or backwards only. Not in the vaguely circular motion used. That's just guaranteeing a uneven Sanding and shows me that this lady is too new to refinishing furniture to be making videos on the subject. Know your tools, it's important.

@@TrinaBurmeisterjust think of it like this, she’s learning every day like all of us. I’m glad you added this comment for both of our benefit. I’m learning about sanding my deck, there are years of solid stain and some cracking so I’m going to use a flap disc and angle grinder, but the videos I watched did indicate to continuously move in one direction while applying in an even circular motion, or you would get really visible circles in the wood.
