I was given a blocked Dyson heater with no blow. After unblocking the heater (see prev video) she blew but boy did she smell of stale houses and pets. Impossible to get to the contaminated surfaces without destroying the heater so on with plan B ...

I just picked one of these up for $4 at a thrift shop, they had it in the e-waste bin because it wouldn't blow. I found you by your video about the blockage, I was thinking it was more internal and hadn't even looked at those damn grills. Thanks for that vid. Anywho, you can take the top ring off the base. It separates at that seam that goes all the way around the cylinder several centimeters above the intake grills. You just grab the base with one hand and grab inside the ring at the bottom with the other, turn anti-clockwise, and voila. That is also where you pull out the motor/impeller assembly through the top, you have to disconnect the wires from the circuits in the very bottom first.

Great video! Thank you for the advice, it worked really well. I can't believe how much gunk came out of the "bladeless" fan part. And it appears to have cleaned up the funky smells. The entire project took me about 2 hours from dismantle, cleaning the accumulated dust and gunk in the fan/motor area and then dunking.

Thanks. I am pleased you found it useful. As far as I can make out it is the only way of doing it. They are a stupidly expensive item that is flawed. They should have added a decent removable filter. It is OK to wash electrical stuff in soapy water so long as you let it dry. When it get too manky, I give my computer keyboard a deep clean in the dishwasher on its own. It comes out like new but you need to put it somewhere warm for a week.

They said they would replace the machine and have UPS come and pick it up but I actually really like the fan and I have been begging them just to rework the darn filters and get an outside nose on the task because there really is a very very bad odor that stinks up my whole apartment. If the H2 error occurs only when in heating mode then the overheat sensor is saying that the heater is too hot. Does it blow cold well with no error? If you have cleaned it and it is blowing air OK then check that none of the connectors have become loose when you cleaned it.

The whole H2 error in my opinion is a BUNCH OF BULLSHIT and I will NEVER buy another Dyson product again because of the CRAP they pulled on me!!!!! These EXPENSIVE MACHINES ARE JUST WORTHLESS!! So upset and disappointed with their company. Back in 2015 I bought a Dyson AM05 HOT + COLD fan and within a couple months it started to make a clicking sound when it would oscillate. When I contact Dyson, they sent me a new AM05. Then within a couple months it too had issues (heater stopped working (apparently a recall), so I got my money back. I then purchased the AM09 ($499) and around a year or so it was doing this strange "H2" ERROR. H2: When fan is on HEATER Mode... "H2" would come on after a few minutes and flash continuously along with the red power button. At that point, the heater would be turned OFF and the COLD would be on, and blowing FULL BLAST. The entire unit is FROZEN, Buttons don't respond and the remote does not respond. You have to pull the plug to turn it off. I called up dyson customer support and was told H2 is there to alert to an over/under current. The Dyson machine draws more energy while it's in the heat mode (1500 watts) and so you HAVE to connect it directly to a wallsocket and NOT into a surge protector or an extension cord. Now at the time I had it in an extension cord because the cord is rather short and so that made sense. Fast Forward to 2020 and I have the same issue but this time it's plugged directly into the wall and still would have that H2 error... I didn't use the fan all that much because it was rather aggravating. Fast Forward to a month ago and AGAIN, same thing again... So I looked it up and says that if it still occurs that it could be that the power is being drawn out of the wallsocket and so the Dyson should be plugged to IT'S OWN WALL SOCKET with nothing else plugged in. The wall socket has your typical 2 sockets. One was the dyson's cord, and the other socket was to a surge protector where the computer and it's components were connected to. I went out and purchased an extension cord so I can run the computer surge protection to a SEPARATE wall socket on the other side of the room and so that way the Dyson has it's own wallsocket and NOTHING else.. AND IT STILL DOES THE H2 error. I contact Dyson thru their chat and the customer service says the machine has to be replaced (offered a 20% discount but has to be purchased right then and there off a machine nearly 2 TIMES the cost I paid for this AM09!!) because my AM09 only gets 2 years for warranty! (And all dysons get 2 years) There is nothing passed AM09 as they moved to PURIFIERS which now are between $799-$899!!! That means that the unit was DEFECTIVE while it was in warranty and the extension cord had NOTHING to do with this H2 error in the first place! There are a LOT of Dyson owners reporting this H2 error and just seems like it a ploy to force customers to buy a new one. As a result, my $500 Dyson lasted 1 1/2 years before BREAKING DOWN in what is NOW described as "needing to be replaced and cannot be fixed" according to the Dyson customer service rep. So those who are having the issue and being told it's because you are using an extension cord, WRONG! I am pretty pissed off at Dyson.. They say you get what you pay for.. Well the Dyson products are literally the MOST EXPENSIVE of their class and you get a DESPICABLE 2 year warranty!!!
